Anchors Aweigh is a historic home built in 1869 that is located in the heart of Beaufort's Historic District and has been renovated to provide a comfortable vacation get away. Guests will find themselves near all the coastal amenities of the NC Crystal Coast while staying in a comfortable fully accessorized home just a short walk to Beaufort's Front Street.
Enjoy specialty shops, restaurants, Maritime Museum, the Beaufort Board walk as well as beautiful panoramic views of the southern outer banks all are a two block walk from the cottage.

Beaufort has been named the 'Coolest, Friendliest Small Town ' in the USA and its a vacation destination by visitors from all over country.

Anchors Aweigh is decorated in a "coastal theme" that is both roomy and comfortable. Accommodations include living room area and a downstairs bedroom, fully stocked kitchen has stove, microwave, full size refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher and dining area that seats 9. An upstairs loft easily sleeps 4 with a queen bed and a separate area that has a trundle with two twin beds (Note cottage has one bathroom that is located on first floor). A second shower/bath facility is located in the back yard next to the shed. Wi-Fi services , 2 TV's and DVD included. A private fenced covered patio area has outdoor benches (that convert to a picnic table), gas grill. and an outdoor sink for fish cleaning. The cottage is pet friendly for a small pet fee. Backyard shed has washer/ dryer / folding table. Adult and youth bikes are available for your use. There is ample onsite parking for 2 cars and/or trailered boat.

Owners operate a 'seafood' business so fresh seasonal shellfish is readily available. There are also many nearby attractions which are just a short drive away which include Atlantic Beach, Fort Macon, NC State Aquarium, water park , public fishing pier, boat ramps, plus so much more make this a "must do' for beach lovers and family vacationers.

This was an ideal location for our family for my sister’s wedding. The hosts were sweet and we were lucky enough to get some of their delicious shrimp! Our family enjoyed the stay and we even brought the cat!

May 2025 Beaufort

The owners Joe and Sue were friendly and welcoming even giving us delicious fresh shrimp cocktail! The house is clean, and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen and the location is perfect walking distance to downtown. We had a wonderful week kayaking around the creeks and eating and drinking downtown. We will definitely stay here again.

Clean, cozy, close to everything

Perfect Place

We loved staying at Anchors Aweigh in Beaufort! The house was spacious and comfortable and the hosts were so kind. We enjoyed meeting them upon arrival! The location was ideal for walking everywhere. It was the perfect place to stay with our dog. Our favorite part was sitting on the front porch enjoying the breeze! We hope to come back again soon!

Awesome location and stay!

We had a wonderful trip to Beaufort and this house was perfect. The location was a short walk to coffee, restaurants, and the water. Loved the house and the owners were so friendly and accommodating. I would highly recommend Anchors Aweigh!

Beautiful cottage and great hosts!

Loved our trip to Beaufort. We came for the Beaufort Ghost Walk. From this cute cottage we could walk to our destination. The hosts, Joe and Sue are wonderful. They brought us shrimp cocktail and were a joy to talk to. Will definitely be back.

Wonderful trip!

We had a wonderful time in Beaufort! The house was very comfortable and the location was perfect to walk to downtown. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch to read and the kitchen was well appointed for cooking. Thank you for sharing this historical home with us!

Perfect location and attentive hosts!

The location of this house makes it perfect for walks to Front Street with our dogs, going out to dinner and anything else you may want to do in “downtown” Beaufort. It is extremely well stocked and if you are missing anything the hosts are willing to help in every way. Highly recommend their fresh seafood business - Darden’s Seafood- even if you aren’t staying in the house. Great place to unwind and relax with family.

The hosts are very accommodating. There were three beds, but basically two bedrooms so if you want it, three bedrooms, three beds, this may not work. hostess provided, delicious, shrimp, and snacks, including snacks for our little dog. Very thoughtful.

Cozy, full of extras, great location

Joe and Sue are sweet as pie--like the pumpking pie they brought me (best I ever had!). They stock the house with every sort of item, including food items, so you can save on groceries. You think you are at home with all the thoughtful extras. There is no better day than to walk down for breakfast at the Turner Street Market, sit by the water in the park, investigate the amazing cemetery with a live oak for every grave (check out the little rum girl), and be sure to have Joe's seafood extraordinaire. The shrimp is like candy. The beaches are FABULOUS!

April visit to Beaufort and vicinity

We had a pleasant stay in Beaufort for a few days while checking out the local real estate market. The cottage was as described, quaint, clean and comfortable, and within a short walking distance to the town's waterfront, shops and restaurants. The folder in the cottage had all the necessary information. We chose to clean the cottage ourselves upon checking out to save a few dollars. The damage deposit and cleaning fees were promptly refunded as promised. We gave a rating of 4 stars only because the cottage is only a few houses away from a busy road. We will consider staying here again during our next visit to the area.

Great cottage and perfect location

The cottage is just a few blocks from Front Street with the harbor, boardwalk, and restaurants/shops. This was the best equipped VRBO property we have stayed at. Plenty of kitchen utensils, cooking basics, and maps/brochures for local activities/businesses. Pine Knoll Shores with its ocean beaches is only minutes away over the causeway. We liked taking the dog to the beach for running and sniffing the new marine smells. Our hosts Joe and Sue were great to work with and provided plenty of information on the cottage. We especially appreciated the seafood that had been caught by Joe. You can't get more fresh! We stayed for a month and the washer/dryer were a lifesaver. We were able to pack light for the trip down from Nebraska. We hope to make it to the Crystal Coast again someday.

Owners were amazing, house was perfect for us and fur baby. Clean and well stocked. Easy walking to brewery, food trucks and turner street market (amazing breakfast sandwiches and burritos!) This was our first visit of many more to Beaufort!

Lovely Historic Home

We enjoyed the location of this home! Love all the history of this town, which we found was linked to our hometown in WNC. The owners were wonderful and have the best fresh shrimp! They supplied many essentials that I usually have to purchase when staying in VRBO. Highly recommend!

Lovely time near the beach

Nice cozy cottage near the downtown fort and beaches. Went to see fort Macon and Atlantic beach for a nice weekend getaway.

Avid lover of the sea and a longtime registered nurse, my husband Joe (a Beaufort native and local oysterman and shrimper) and we also run Darden's Seafood, a source for the freshest seasonal shellfish.

Purchased property because of it's proximity to our homestead. The property has been used as law offices for the past two decades and we have restored it to a single family residence for family, friends and guest that come to visit our beautiful crystal coast. Beaufort is a small town with lots of available activities, attractions and nearby beaches. It is a perfect destination for couples and families wanting to relax and enjoy and is Pet friendly.

Ample off street parking can accommodate boat & trailer with several nearby public boat ramps, Nearby public beaches , a must do vacation for fishing enthusiasts and beach lovers. Cottage is pet friendly , must notify owner and pay non-refundable pet fee and abide by Owner Pet Policy.
