Heritage Hideaway is the perfect place to unwind and reconnect with loved ones. A peaceful and scenic setting to celebrate an anniversary or birthday, or just escape the daily grind. Located on 25 acres of steep bluffs and mature hardwood forest, our main cabin is a fully furnished and modern Amish built log cabin.

A true hideaway, the cabin is tucked back off the main road, yet close to many recreational opportunities. Relax around a campfire or listen to the sounds of nature. Take in the scenic views and gather with family where distractions disappear.

Base rates are based on two person occupancy, additional guest fees apply. For groups larger than six, see our separate listing for our Tiny House located on the opposite side of the property: VRBO#873511. Note there is a discount for weekly stays (7 night minimum).

So Peaceful!

This cabin is totally adorable! Perfect for a quiet getaway. Secluded and such a great view! Beautiful drive to neighboring towns. Would love to stay here again in the summer!

Cozy and secluded, wonderful place!

In the below zero weather, we were greeted with a fire roaring in the wood burning fireplace and an immaculate and inviting log cabin well equipped for our 4-day stay. Troy checked in with us on our first afternoon to make sure all was good. It was! We thoroughly enjoyed the cozy feel of the cabin and the giant supply of wood to keep the fire burning. There was also a heater that would back up the warmth if the fire burned low overnight. We can’t wait to come again in every season!

Made a great getaway for a father of 4

My wife and I stayed here a few years ago and loved everything about this place, so when the opportunity came for me to take a vacation on my own, I knew where I was going. It's so nuce how quuet and secluded it is here. You'll have basically everything you need for a nice stay here.

Beautiful, up to date, clean, cozy and quiet

Beautiful log cabin on the site of a previous homestead, at the end of a gravel road overlooking a beautiful wooded valley. Clean and cozy with all the amenities, stove fridge, full bath and HVAC. Fire ring and new chairs and table outside. Very quiet and secluded. No traffic noise, only birds, wildlife and the breeze. Highly recommended. Close to biking, hiking, trout fishing, Mystery cave, and the Museum in Fountain is a must see.

Fall stay

This is my third stay, and I enjoy it every time! We saw eagles, heard wildlife, and gratefully experienced the calm, quiet and beauty of the area. The hosts made sure we had all the amenities needed and provided excellent service. Thanks so much!

Beautiful property

The property is on a very beautiful lot, overlooking a large natural area. The cabin and exterior were very well maintained, clean and tidy. Shower was good, bed was comfortable but I would bring my own pillow next time, a bit hard for our taste. Our only criticism, and we should have done our homework prior to our stay, we did not know there would be so many gravel roads to drive on to get where we wanted to go. We came to the area to ride our bikes on the Root River Trail. We didn't realize we couldn't get from the cabin to Lanesboro, our starting spot, without having to travel on a dusty, gravel road. One other problem we encountered was coming back on a beautiful warm day after riding and finding the front of the house covered in Asian beetles. We had planned to grill that night but ended going back to Lanesboro as my husband didn't want to fight them while standing at the grill. We vacuumed up a few inside the cabin but for the most part they stayed outside. We were chilly on the main floor as the heater pushed all the warm air upstairs so we had difficulty sleeping the first night. The 2nd day we lowered the temp more as it was warmer outside and slept much more comfortably the second night of our stay. We enjoyed sitting at the swing at sunset and enjoyed a glass of wine. Beautiful property, well maintained and quiet.

The perfect secluded Hideaway

This was our 5th stay at this property. Once again we had a wonderfully peaceful, relaxing week at the Hideaway. We always enjoy the seclusion, and lack of any city sounds. The cabin has always been clean and neat. We spent many hours enjoying the fire-pit. The Weber grill worked great for our grilling needs. We'll be back again next year! We highly recommend the Heritage Hideaway.

Quiet Get-away

We stayed here while in town to hike Whitewater Park. We loved how peaceful and quiet the property was during the day. In the evening as we enjoyed the fire we could here the animals (farm and wild). The view off the edge of the property over the valley was incredible.

Family Wedding Stay

Cousin's wedding in Preston on Saturday. There was a Happy Hour in Lanesboro Friday night. Property and cabin were absolutely perfect. 100% would consider staying there again.

Secluded log cabin

We spent four nights there to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We were here a year ago for the same reason. Wonderful place, saw a lot of dee and lots of different birds. Listening to the bullfrogs was amusing. Great place and the owner was very nice.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We went kayaking one day and biking one day. It was a treat to come back to your serene house at the end of the day! It was my second time there and I would like to return.

Acerca del anfitrión

Anfitrión: Troy & Laurie Danielson

Troy was born and raised in the Lanesboro area. He works as an Engineer for Minnesota Department of Transportation in Rochester. In his free time he enjoys hunting, fishing and just generally being outdoors. The Danielson family continues to maintain the original family farm nearby. Laurie grew up in west central Wisconsin on a small hobby farm. She works as a pharmacist for Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She loves living on the Root River and enjoys gardening, cross country skiing, snow shoeing and biking the Root River Bike trail. We feel fortunate to live in such a beautiful place and enjoy meeting our guests. We hope you enjoy your visit to the Lanesboro area.

Por qué eligió esta propiedad

The cabin site was once a heavily wooded pasture to a neighboring farm. The main cabin was built off site by local Amish and moved into place in 2001. The original log structure had seasonal indoor plumbing and an outhouse nearby. We purchased the property in 2011 and started work on the bathroom & laundry addition January 1, 2012. In keeping with the "rustic" feel of the cabin, finish work utilized recycled barn boards from Laurie's childhood farm.

From the handmade quilt from Grandma Christine to the barn pulleys from the original Danielson family farm, all are reflecting the value of hard work and thriftiness instilled in us from our ancestors.
