Enjoy a secluded retreat with a hot tub. This contemporary chalet in the Redwoods is bathed in sunlight and is a short stroll to the Mad River and only minutes from HSU and downtown Arcata's local shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and Community Forest.

The Redwood Chalet-downstairs is a hand-crafted, newer home with welcoming covered front porches, custom interior wood work, hardwood and tiled floors, and large windows throughout giving one the feeling of being a part of the surrounding, sun-filled redwood forest. This self-contained 2 bedroom/1 bath (1-4 pers.) includes queen-sized beds, fully equipped kitchen, views & privacy. Also includes big lawn and outside area for badminton, sunbathing, and BBQing. And a HOT TUB. This south facing home is warm, rustic contemporary and welcoming for couples, a family, larger gatherings and anybody seeking solace in a private Redwood Oasis.

(Note: the Redwood Chalet-upstairs---see vrbo #391727--- is separate self-contained rental and includes 2 bedrooms + cozy sleeping loft upstairs (for 1-6 pers.) max. Both can be rented together for group size of no more than 10. To respect the other rentals at our retreat-like, quiet location , we don't allow gatherings larger than 10 persons

Re: Our Health and Safety preparedness for your arrival: We do thorough cleaning procedures between guests and follow CDC health and safety hospitality standards. Disinfecting hand soap and cleaning supplies are in the rental. Our 47 acre redwood-forested setting provides an ideal place and way to vacation or retreat. Also, re Covid, by this time our guests understand the situation, have read our cancellation policy and assume all responsibility when they make reservation. We are not refunding for reasons re Covid at this time.

Also, if you have a little time to explore, our location is just a short drive to beautiful local beaches near Eureka and Trinidad, & natural paradises of Sumeg State Park, Big Lagoon and Redwood National Park.

Beautiful & Peaceful stay- NOT PRIVATE

Great place to stay located near Arcata. Many things to do in reasonable driving distance. My favorite area is the kitchen, with a great large table. Living room area very comfortable! Yard was serene and beautiful like in the pictures. Beds were OK, but they need a bit of updating. The unit as a whole needs some attention. Broken window in kitchen, regular wear noted throughout the unit. Hot tub was very satisfactory after the first night. It was a little cool the first night. Bathroom adequate. I would recommend to bring your own towels. We were given 4 towels for 3 people for 5 night stay. We appreciated the property in all its beauty. However, we did feel somewhat uncomfortable during our stay because the worker seemed to be on the property every morning. The shared laundry area was directly outside our bedroom. We would have preferred a bit more privacy during our visit. While we understand they need to check on the property and work, it seemed invasive during our vacation. We hope this feedback is helpful for future guests and for the host as they continue to offer their space. Make note it is a shared unit and shared hot tub( with sign up sheet) although we had no problems in that aspect as we seemed to have the place to ourselves.

Secluded but not isolated

The chalet is off the main road and in a forest. Yet it was easy to reach and close to good sights and eateries. The house was clean and nicely furnished. The host's instructions were posted in multiple places and easy to understand. Since the site can host more than one family or group, we weren't alone and we could hear the upstairs family walking around and using the hot tub at night. It's good to be aware that you're sharing the space so it's not entirely private. We had to cut our stay short, and the host was nice to offer a credit on our next stay, which was unexpected. We would recommend the Chalet and will try to come again.

Down stairs unit, apartment feel.

Owner on property, and you know it. Lack of curtains in large windows, no curtins in bath room is a bit Creepy... Owner arriving in the AM to rake stones (no sidewalks) and rearrange furniture you have moved. Visible mold in Kitchen lower cabinet, your feet will get wet if you stand at the sink and clean 5 or 6 dishes. Funky old 1 room heater, old plastic box space heaters for bed rooms. Missing smoke detectors. Charges A CLEANING FEE, and asks you to tidy up, it's appears your the cleaning service, window glass smoked with dirt, cobb webbs in corners, nice hot water if wait long enough. Deep cleaning recommended. Will not return. Photo's available, and sent to Vrbo chat team.

2 day vacay

This 2 bedroom downstairs Chalet was amazing. It was a very isolated but was perfect in what we wanted for a quick getaway! It was very clean, directions to clean and to find chalet were so easy to read. If highly recommend for a quiet vacation while enjoying the Pacific Northwest!

Pleasant but less privacy freshness than hoped for

The location was great and the house was very clean. Not disclosed in the listing was that there are now apparently 4 units potentially sharing the single hot tub but more significantly, the lower floor has windows which open on only 2 of the 4 sides and due to the placement of them it's impossible to get a breeze coming through the house without opening one or both doors but without screen doors even that isn't possible without letting insects fly in. We arrived on a warm day and couldn't get the house cooled off as there was no A/C, ceiling fans or portable fans. We went to another place to sleep the first night and returned the next day with several fans so we could stay the second night. The only other possible issue someone might have is anywhere we went outside was in full view of the people staying upstairs and most of the curtains are so thin they stop little light during the day and are see through at night if you have any inside light on. Host is an apparently very busy person as communications took days and we felt like we were left hanging on a couple important issues but they were ultimately worked out in time.

Convenient home

Overall this was a very nice place for the price. The amenities were considerably good but they didn't have a lot of kitchen utensils to make life more convenient like measuring cups or liquid measuring cups. The had very little silverware so bring your own plastic ones. You cannot drink the water. It is YELLOW and will give you a nasty headache. You must bring your own drinking water for your stay. You fill the bathtub with water to soak and it is so yellow it looks like someone peed in it. There are no available laundry for you to use so keep that in mind. They don't give you extra towels for multiple people in your family for an extended stay so unless you ask you'll be using the same towels. The internet and wifi is horrible and there is zero cell reception in the house. Things to consider. Overall I'd rate this home a 3 star.

Lovely House in the Woods

This is a lovely house, secluded and quiet. It is beautifully designed and furnished. Only a 5-7 minute drive to Arcata, yet located in a beautiful forested property. All the basics are provided and the hot tub located a few short steps from the house in a lovely forest is magical. Note: internet and telephone service is spotty.

Spacious, Clean and Serene

We loved the remote and private feeling amd we were still close enough, by car, to services, shops and to the beautiful redwood coast. The downstairs unit where we stayed was well appointed, clean, spacious and elegant. The bed was comfortable (we only used one of the 2 bedrooms). There were a few basics for cookng but if you like to cook, be prepared to bring some of your own supplies. The full kitchen was great though and had a full sized refrigerator, an oven and stove, microwave & toaster oven, farm style table. There was a portable charcoal bbq grill so bring charcoals! The hot tub was fantastic and hidden up in the trees, clean, hot and well lit with good jets. We were alone the first night and there were quiet guests upstairs the second night, which we were barely aware of. The shared lawn area has a badmitton net and rackets. That was fun! We met the caretaker of the property upon arrival. He had been working at the road near the driveway. He was a friendly guy who apparently had done some of the beautiful wood work in the home. He left and we never saw him after arrival so we had our privacy. The bathtub and shower were nice and clean with good water pressure. We did not turn on the tv once so we cannot speak about that. Everything was very nice. The heater works really well so you can turn it on for 5 minutes then turn it off for the whole night and stay comfortable. At night the fog comes in so its pretty cool and peaceful. Highly Recommended! Will stay again!

Disappointed with property manager

The property is fine, quiet and secluded. Terribly disappointed with the property manager. I contacted him a day before we were scheduled to rent and he never responded to me with the code to get into the house. When we arrived at the house I sent a text to him 2 times to get the code for getting into the house. No response from him. His mail box was full so I couldn't leave a verbal message for him. We finally saw a number on a lock box and tried the number on the door lock and fortunately it worked. When we got inside the house it was obvious the cleaning person had not been there - the towels etc. from the previous renters were in the bathtub and their used sheets were on top of one of the beds. There was another bed that hadn't been used so we had a place to sleep. 2 unused towels and washcloths were still available (thank you previous renters that you didn't use them). There wasn't a dish cloth or sponge for washing dishes. The kitchen supplies were dismal - example = 1 teaspoon, 2 soup spoons and a gravy ladle. There were 6 forks and 5 knives. No measuring spoons or measuring cups. Really pathetic that I NEVER received a text or response from the property manager. I expect that I should receive a refund for the fact that the cleaning person had not been to the place prior to our stay and the fact that I never received any contact from the property manager regarding a code to get into the house.

The woods

Once we got there,(it was a foggy,rainy night), with the guidance of our guardian angel,Lisa, it was delightful! A bit off the beaten path for a couple of nubis to this area, it was a worthwhile adventure. Especially the hot tub after a beautiful run in the Avenue of the Giants event

Nice location!

We were only able to stay for night at this location but really enjoyed the feel. It was very cabin like and could see myself being able to relax relatively easily if we had been here longer. Close enough to the city to get the necessities but far enough away for some R&R.

Lovely house and setting

The house is bright and pleasant ~ more than comfortable. The hot tub was lovely. The experience would be enhanced with a little TLC. This house could be better stocked with basics, such as soaps/shampoos, but we had our own. The bed frames are installed backwards and are dangerous to feet/shins as presently configured. Location is fun to drive to and peaceful upon arrival. ..

Cabin getaway in the woods

Perfect location and a very nice cabin to relax in after days of sightseeing. Very close to everything we planned to do. I would recommend this getaway to anyone looking to enjoy a relaxing vacation. Property Manager was awesome.
