We are repeat customers. This is a great getaway just a block walk down the hill to an incredible, uncrowded beach. We even got to swim with humpback whales just 50 yards away from us!

Wonderful relaxing family staycation

Our family of 4 had a very pleasant stay at Lori's cottage. We found the property spotless and in great condition. The kitchen was so clean and well appointed! Thank you Lori for the welcome card and bread, very nice! Location is excellent, we enjoyed walking around town and beach and relaxing on the deck with ocean views. Can't wait to come back!

A lovely, peaceful, comfortable, home away from home. Would highly recommend, only problem with that is it’s not always available when I want to go😉 Oh well, I can share- it’s wonderful.

We loved our stay in this peaceful, welcoming home. There is excellent proximity to an expansive beach and a lovely view from the deck. The home is super clean and extremely well set up for guests. Charming cottage with character!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming cottage. It was perfect for our family of four. The description of the property is accurate and it's clear the owners take great pride in the property. Lori was very responsive and a pleasure to work with. The neighborhood was quiet, the beach just a short walk away, and the outside deck was lovely in the afternoon. Our only regret is we did not stay longer.

Loved it!!

The house was great and well stocked. The owner was wonderful and very gracious! There were 4 adults and we all felt very at home! Even my little dog was happy, she loved the deck!! Birthday escape

It was a very lovely and cozy home in a very good and quiet neighborhood. Walking distance to the beach! It was the birthday of 2 of our boys and they love being so close to the beach! The place was clean and it was easy to reach Lori for questions! Since we came in late for iur check in it was a pleasant surprise to see fresh bread from Lori and the boys devoured it! Will defnitwly stay again!

Can't wait to come back

Don't worry about the wrecked stairs to the beach. The properties on Oceanview sometimes have their steps unlocked and there is easy access from the State beach 300 steps down the highway. The sunsets are beautiful from the deck, the frig has a great ice maker and the kitchen is well stocked with condiments. Lori is very responsive. The beach is special ...isolated and beautiful. Our dogs felt very at home too.

Perfect for a peaceful beach vacation.

This was the perfect place for our family to stay. Nice peaceful neighborhood and very close walk to the beach. We are originally from San Jose so we had several guests stop by for visits. The deck was perfect for entertaining adults while kids played ping pong downstairs. Our dogs loved squirrel watching from the deck and walks on the beach. This was one of the cleanest dog friendly properties we have ever stayed in except for the apparent accidents someones dog had prior to our stay, leaving stains and a bit of a smell downstairs. The owner left a lovely scented candle that made a huge improvement to the smell. The instructions left explained that they will no longer be accepting reservations with dogs because they have been disappointed recently. This was very sad to hear because it is so hard to find such lovely properties when traveling with your dogs. I wish people would be more respectful and responsible when staying in someone else’s home. Lori was an amazing hostess, leaving us fresh flowers, baskets of strawberries, delicious Mexican pastries and a handwritten note to our family. Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautiful home with our pups, we had a wonderful stay.

Hidden Gem

Great house in a quiet neighborhood! Very well stocked home and kitchen, lovely outdoor deck with partial oven view and lots of seating to relax and enjoy, great BBQ, and everything you would need for a day at the beach. We loved being so close to the Manresa state beach, Aptos, and Capitola but yet did not feel like we were in the high tourist area. Lori was a great host and the beautiful fresh flowers and welcome goodies were such a sweet touch. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Great for young families

I came to Holiday House with my two young kids for Spring Break. We loved the cozy charm and mid-century vibes. The kitchen has high end appliances and was well thought out with everything we needed. The bedrooms were very comfortable and linens were clean and plentiful. We loved Manresa State Beach, a short drive away and picture perfect California sunsets. We did encounter a few spiders during the week, but that’s not surprising considering the beautiful wildflower meadows on both sides of the house. The sunflowers, strawberries, and farm fresh eggs at check in were a delight! The proximity to Watsonville for groceries was a plus. Definitely check out Seascape Foods for last minute items, including Marianne’s ice cream! So happy I found this cozy beach cottage!

The house was well equipped with kitchen and household items. It felt like a home. Beds were comfortable enough, and the host is very responsive. Some drawbacks include lack of upkeep in the front/back lawn areas, insects inside the house (ants and spiders), and lack of air conditioning.

Wonderful home at Monterey Bay

This house is a real gem! We enjoyed our stay so much! The house is beautifully furnished and very well equipped. We haven’t missed anything! Everything was comfortable from the beds to the terrace with ocean view. In the mornings when the fog is often in the bay, our teenage son and us enjoyed table tennis and later in the day, when usually the sun is coming out, we took the boogie board provided by the owners. The beach is only 10 min walk from the house. On our arrival we found a sweet welcome message. There were even beach towels for us to use. The owners thought of everything! Next time we bring our golf bags.

Wonderful Stay

The Holiday House was exactly what we had hoped for. The home is very clean and well appointed. The beds were comfy and the deck was amazing. The deck has great ocean views and is a perfect morning coffee spot. Looking forward to renting again next year. Lori was great to work with.

Great location with views!

Had such a great stay at the "Holiday House"! The place is in such a great location and so close to the beach! Spotless inside and had everything you could possibly need. Definitely will be our go to place when we go back to the area. Owner was so easy to communicate with too if you have any questions or concerns.

quiet place with nice views!

Host was awesome, superb level of detail in her communications/recommendations. Very nice touches throughout the home. Best set of cookware I've seen in a vacation rental, as well as a nice outdoor grill that actually had propane (including a backup!) - a rare feat! The outdoor area has great views and really comfortable furniture. Quiet neighborhood too, which was nice. Absolutely would stay again!

Your hosts are Kevin and Lori Breen, their daughter Lark, and Australian Shepherd Arlo. They chose this house because of the ocean view and dog-friendly (leash) beach access! Having recently purchased and furnished Holiday House, they realize the limits of their "free" time to enjoy it, and are opening it to others who share their ideas of a great place to recreate and relax.
Kevin is a Golf Course Superintendent, Lori is a nanny, Lark is a college student, and Arlo is the chaser of geese at Kevin's course. All four have different ideas of a perfect Holiday day, but sunset on the deck can't be beat.

It starts with the view and ends with the view, but the other factors were the peaceful and idyllic little neighborhood, the beautiful heather fields to the north, the pastoral few minutes on San Andreas Road through the eucalyptus groves, strawberry fields, and peeks of the ocean as you drive in from Highway 1. It is convenient to all that Santa Cruz offers without being near loud bars, restaurants, or college students...and Monterey has a different collection of draws: golf, the world famous aquarium, galleries and shops, 17 mile drive. But the best places we have found to enjoy are right in Aptos and Rio del Mar: Deluxe Foods, New Leaf Market, great BBQ, awesome breakfast joints, and lots of good vibes.

Surfers! Walk about 250 yards to Manresa State Beach. 20 min or less to all the other great breaks in Santa Cruz County. The beach is public access for 11 miles...lots of beach combing, kite flying, surf casting, boogie boarding, beach bonfires, whatever you like! Only 15 minutes from all the draws of Santa Cruz and Capitola: Beach Boardwalk, Downtown Santa Cruz, Natural Bridges Monarch Walk, Pasatiempo for golf, Forest of the Nisene Marks in Aptos for destination mountain biking. If you travel south, just 20-30 minutes away is Elkhorn Slough for wildlife and kayaking, 15 min further to Monterey and the world renowned aquarium, famous golf courses (Pebble Beach, Poppy Hill, Spyglass)
