Incredible accommodations with views of inactive volcanoes and the ocean. A true piece of paradise. With the elevation came welcomed cooler temperatures for sleeping. While attached to the main house, it was very peaceful listening to the birds. The private covered lanai with comfortable furniture and private grill was a treat. The hosts, Julie and Bob, were very thoughtful with the amenities and made us feel like we were at home. Highly recommend if you are planning to visit the big island. About 20 minutes from fabulous Mauna Kea beach - be there by 8am to ensure one of 25 free public parking spots.

Great hosts

This was a very good unit for two people and the hosts were very responsive and informative. The weather here is a little more moderate than down at sea level and has a great route over to Waimea and Hawi.

Wonderful experience on the Kohala Coast!

We spent an amazing 33 days in Julie & Bob’s Ohana! The views are gorgeous and the area is quiet and peaceful. Julie & Bob are wonderful hosts and we enjoyed getting to know them. We hope to return soon!

Jaw-dropping views!

The 180 degree view from the lanai is spectacular - volcanoes and ocean - as far as you can see. And the slightly cooler temps in the evenings are so pleasant after a day of snorkeling and hiking. Mahalo!

Amazing property!

Loved the location! Remote, quiet and beautiful. Perfect for exploring the northern half of the island. The views from unit are outstanding. The unit is comfortably and stylishly decorated. I really appreciated the owners thinking of touches like snorkel gear, coolers and beach towels. I had a perfect week here!

Beautiful View. Lovely House. Great Location.

This is a wonderful guest house perfect for a couple or small family. It was wonderful to begin each day with a cup of coffee and breakfast on the lanai. The amazing view encompassed mountains, ocean and shoreline. Julie and Bob were amazing hosts who were available to answer our questions from the time we booked the property until we checked out. We enjoyed the location, which gave us easy access to beaches, Waimea, and other retail including a dive shop. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are on the Big Island.

Love it!

We loved staying at Hale Ka Nani. The ohana has everything you need for a perfect holiday. The location is beautiful and peaceful. The kitchen is loaded with everything needed to cook delicious meals with local produce, meats and fish. The view from the lanai showcases Hawaii’s mountains and the Pacific Ocean and spectacular sunsets! We definitely would rate this property 20/10! Loved it!

Beautiful and clean property. Location involved a bit more driving than we were wanting

Well maintained, clean, nice furnishings. Lovely views. Enjoyed the cooler nights. The location was a bit further away from what we wanted to do, but not enough to keep us from not going. Owners are nice folks, avaiaable for questions. Kitchen well stocked with cooking untensils.

Extraordinarily clean, beautifully decorated and perfect location to visit Kohala Beaches and Resorts only about a 15 minute drive. Did I mention the outrageous views? On a clear day, you can see 3 of the dormant volcanoes, as well as across to Maui! Stunningly beautiful! Thank you Bob & Julie!

Amazing place!!

The guest house is the perfect place to enjoy peace and quiet (and watch the stars at night and whales during the day from the large lanai), with easy access to Hawai'i's best beaches (10 min drive), high-end shopping and dining (15 min) drive, but most important: the most gracious and welcoming hosts possible. Bob and Julie made us feel truly at home and provided everything to make our stay memorable and delightful - thank you both!! The house has everything you may be looking for: from basics to herbs and spices in the kitchen (including fresh rosemary from the garden), a spacious modern bathroom with walk-in shower, comfortable beds, plenty of towels and beach gear, and a well-furbished, spectacular lanai with 180 deg ocean view. We will definitely be back - no better place to stay on the Kohala coast!

Worth the wait!

I have been wanting to stay at this property for quite some time and this home was certainly worth the wait! The location, the huge ocean/mountain views, the night sky, I could go on and on. Communication with the owners was excellent and frankly, they were two of the best hosts I have ever met.The photos do not lie. This property is clean and there was even a mid-month cleaning included while I was there. This island is big! So having some of the best beaches right down the road is another benefit to staying in this area. Another wonderful trip for the books and I look forward to (hopefully!) staying there again. Aloha!

A tranquil guest house with a heavenly view

One of the highlights of our one-week Big Island vacation was staying in this guest house for the first 4 nights. The house was new, clean, and beautifully decorated. The view from the house and the lanai outside was just out of this world - you can see 3 mountain peaks on the left and over 180 degrees of ocean spanning around the house, from 3000 ft high. Bob and Julie were really friendly and made sure we felt comfortable and at home. The house had anything and everything you would need - we especially appreciated the snorkel fins (in both my size 13 and my wife's size 6) as we're big snorkelers but didn't pack our fins. We were a moderate drive away from the world reknown Hapuna Beach, the town of Waimea (Kamuela) which has wonderful restaurants, and Hawaiian ruins. We also drove a but further to Ponolu'u lookout, Hilo, and Waipio valley during our stay, all with amazing drives. We were always glad to come back to the house after being in the water or out and about all day. We can't wait to stay here again when we visit the Island, and if we have friends who are looking for places to stay, we're sure to recommend this place!

Quiet comfortable Ohana

My husband and I stayed in Bob and Julie’s Ohana for 2 weeks during the recent (ongoing) Haleakala volcanic eruption on the Big Island. The Ohana is well-equipped, compact, beautifully decorated and comfortable for 2, but would accommodate another (close) couple or kids. The North Kohala Ranch area is gated and very quiet, which we appreciated, however party animals are not welcome on the Ranch. Groceries, shopping, bars and restaurants, beaches, etc., are a drive away. Hawi and Waimea are both about a 20 minute drive and the beautiful beaches on the Kohala Coast are about a 30 minute drive south. Although vog did not affect our health during our visit, it definitely affected the ocean view unless the trade winds blew it away, and any trip to Kona or further south brought us into the thick of it. The Ohana is attached to Bob and Julie’s home, with private access and enough privacy for comfort. We are very familiar with the BI and did not need vacation advice, but Bob and Julie are happy to provide whatever help you would need. We enjoyed our time at Hale Ka Nani and would stay there again.

Hale Ka Nani; Hawaii living at its very best

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to actually live in Hawaii? Alas, it is not to be for me - and yet- my husband and I recently spent a month in the Hale Ka Nani ohana on Kohala Ranch, island of Hawaii, and that is as near as one can get to actually living in this beautiful island if you aren't able to do so. The ohana is a lovely 3 room self-contained guest house adjacent to, but separate from the owner's main house, with its own entrance, driveway, washer/dryer and furnished lanai, which overlooks the ocean, and the mountains Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Hualalai. On a clear day one can see the island of Maui. Sunsets are spectacular. I have seen the legendary "Green Flash" twice since I've been here. The newly completed unit is beautifully decorated and thoughtfully equipped with everything one would need to make a stay here very comfortable. What a great place for writing a book, reading a novel, unwinding, renewing, and just enjoying all the things Hawaii has to offer. Mahalo, Hale Ka Nani!

Quiet and beautiful Kohala Ranch

Always an excellent stay here. Beautiful coastline views, peaceful and away from the crowds. Bob and Julie make sure everything is perfect! Just love it up here.

Book it if you can

This property gives you the feel of the Big Island at its best. The hosts exude the aloha spirit. The apartment is beautifully decorated. The view from the deck includes lots of wild birds as well as rolling hills and the ocean. It is a little bit of a drive to stores and restaurants, but that's a plus if you want to avoid tourist crowds. Thank you Bob and Julie for sharing your piece of Paradise.
