This cottage has a lovely bird filled garden and many beautiful walks on the doorstep. Very quiet. The kitchen could use a better pots and pans, with lids that fit, and more cereal bowls. Very comfy bed.

Idyl in Hampshire

Peter was a wonderful and very responsive host. Lovely house with absolutely beautiful views of the rolling Hampshire countryside. Great base for day trips to explore the area. We all really enjoyed our stay.

Hampshire trip

Nice cottage in a quiet location situated in the grounds of the host's property. Good location for exploring Hampshire and New Forest. Able to take our dog off walking in the woods from the back garden. Lovely farm shops nearby.

A Lovely Country Cottage - perfect place to chill

A ideal retreat to escape the stress of the modern world. Peter was a wonderful host, he allowed us to bring our dogs along & advised us about walks in the locality. He was available if needed, but otherwise you had complete privacy.

Peter himself was a nice individual who accommodated to my family and I arriving early to the site and was communicative regarding ammenities available at the host site. However, this property is highly unmaintanted and highly unclean. The fridge was stocked with 1 opened orange juice carton and 1 unopened bottle of wine. Additionally, it was infested with spiders, spider webs, all the dishes were dirty and stained, the bedsheets were stained yellow as well, house was murky and dusty. There were spider webs and huge spiders in almost every corner of the house as if the property hadn’t been looked at in months and it was so incredibly dusty. I hate to leave this review because Peter himself was very delightful, however the property is inhabitable, unsanity, and just unfortunately dirty. Please also keep in mind the place is in an incredibly hidden location and Ubers are NOT an option. It is in the depths of nowhere and not accessible to grocery stores, restaurants, etc. I recommend not booking this place unless you are solely looking for a retreat on a cottage farmland. If you want to go anywhere beyond the property, it is hard to do so. This is my raw and honest opinion of the property. The scenery on the property is very pretty, and hosts have the option to explore the acres/tennis court and farmland.

As you noted, Uber is not widely available in this area, which is standard for a countryside retreat and is outlined in the property details. Regarding the cleanliness concerns you’ve raised: I take maintenance and hospitality seriously. The property is thoroughly cleaned and inspected prior to each guest’s arrival. The items you mentioned—such as the unopened wine and a sealed juice carton—are often left as a courtesy for arriving guests, not as signs of neglect. I regret that your expectations were not met, but I stand by the condition and accuracy of my listing. The property is indeed a secluded farmland retreat, as advertised, and offers beautiful scenery, private acres, and recreational amenities like a tennis court. A Hidden Slice of Paradise

A true paradise. Tucked away in a peaceful rural setting about 1.5 hours from London, this property felt like stepping into another world—quiet, lush, and full of life. The greenery is absolutely breathtaking, and the surrounding forest teems with wildlife. Every second we spent here was pure joy. Our old dog, who usually prefers to nap most of the day, suddenly came to life—running freely through the woods with a spark we hadn’t seen in years. Peter, the host, was incredibly kind and welcoming, making sure everything was perfect for our stay. If you're looking for a tranquil escape into nature, this is the spot. We’re already dreaming about coming back.

The host was welcoming and the location is amazing but the house needs a little work. The house was very cold and the host had suppled electric heaters which helped a little. But the timings that were set on the central heating were too late and turned off to early at night. I did speak to the host and he took this on board. The house could do with a insulating which would help with the coldness and a thick curtain at the door would make a massive difference to the draft that comes down the corridor. My older kids liked going into woods at night to investigate and the dog loved the field.The kitchen could do with some good wine glasses, mugs and serving spoons. Some bowls for cereal as there was only three soup bowls which are quite shallow. The TV isn't a smart TV and could do with an upgrade we did take our fire stick but there is no port for it.

Thanks Tara for your suggestions. I didn’t realise you were freezing and would only have been too happy to extend the central heating times if you’ve asked me! I will follow your advice and add the missing utensils in the kitchen.

My wife and I stayed at the cottage for two weeks. The pictures and description of the cottage and area were accurate. We really liked the Hampshire/Candover area, which is beautiful for hiking and touring around. Peter was very enjoyable and helpful. When the microwave broke down, he arranged for an immediate replacement the next day. The house and garden provided great privacy, with only the sound of birds, the occasional deer and other wild animals. Almost every day, we used the tennis court for our morning workout. The court surface is a bit worn, but good enough to play and very nicely located on the premises. In other words, we can warmly recommend a stay at the cottage in the grounds of Dower House.
