The Artist’s House in Céret – Boutique Townhouse with Rooftop Terrace
Wake to the Saturday market setting up under the plane trees, thirty seconds from your
front door, in the little Catalan town that drew Picasso, Braque and Chagall. The Artist’s
House is a four-storey boutique townhouse in the very heart of Céret’s old town — a former
shop, and our much-loved family home for over 25 years — with a rooftop terrace looking
out to the sacred mountain of Canigou.
The house
Full of art, colour and character, the house has been renovated over the years and filled with
original pieces collected locally and on our travels. It has the warmth of a boutique hotel and
the ease of a family home.
Across its four floors you’ll find:
Sleeps 6 — two double bedrooms and a twin room, plus a cot and fold-out bed for
families. With the option to add two extra mattresses for an extra fee.
Two shower rooms, one with a bathtub
A well-equipped kitchen and sociable living and dining spaces.
A cosy wood burner for cooler evenings — the heart of the house in autumn and winter
Traditional external shutters that keep the house cool and shaded through the
southern summer Free Wi-Fi, smart TV (use your own Netflix etc.), washing machine, and a shopping
trolley and bike in the cave
The rooftop terrace
At the top of the house is the bit everyone remembers: a spacious rooftop terrace with a
BBQ and small outdoor kitchen, made for long dinners as the sun goes down over the
rooftops. To the west, the view is dominated by Canigou — the mountain the Catalans call
sacred.

Points forts : Propreté, arrivée, communication et exactitude de l’annonce.
Charming, rustic, comfortable space in the town center of Ceret, within 5 minutes walking of multiple cafes and shops. There are 4 stories, including the lovely rooftop terrace, so navigating stairs on a regular basis is part of the deal. The home was well-equipped. We enjoyed the unique decorative touches. Jojo, the host, was quite helpful and responsive.

Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement
The town — thirty seconds from your door Céret is one of the most storied small towns in France. In 1911 Picasso came, and Braque, Matisse, Gris, Soutine and Chagall followed — the town became known as “the Mecca of Cubism.” The superb Museum of Modern Art, beautifully rebuilt in 2022 and holding works Picasso himself donated, is a 2-minute walk from the house.
Every Saturday morning, one of the best markets in the region winds through the streets under 150-year-old plane trees — stalls of local cherries, Catalan charcuterie, cheese, Roussillon wines, fabrics and flowers, literally on the doorstep. Cafés, restaurants, galleries, independent bakers, butchers and wine merchants are all within a two-minute walk.
Through the seasons Spring: Céret’s cherries are the first in France to ripen — the first crate goes to the President every year — and the town’s Cherry Festival in May fills the streets with markets, brass bands and dancing.
Summer: Tuesday-evening night markets, the Sardane festival in July, river swims, and the coast 40 minutes away.
Autumn: golden light, quiet streets, walks into the Pyrenean foothills straight from town.
Winter: the wood burner, the coast without the crowds, and skiing at Font-Romeu, Les Angles or Cambre d’Aze within two hours.
Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique
The house has been amuch loved holiday home for the past 25 years. Blood sweat, tears and a lot of joy have gone in to renovating the house and transforming the roof terrace. When ever he's in town the owner continues to work on the house, improving the performance and changing it's colours. It's a forever project! In fact it's charm isn't for everyone. Those who prefer crisp finishes and don't appreciate the rustic vibe of old house might be more comfortable else where.
The house is on four floors — part of its charm, but worth knowing if stairs are difficult Parking: free parking at Parking des Maroniers and Place de la Liberté (note: cars must be moved from Place de la Liberté before Saturday market), paid parking at Les Tins — all a short walk from the house.
Keeping cool: thick old-town walls, fans in the bedrooms and shutters keep the house comfortable in summer.
Heating: the wood burner is the main source of heat, with bedroom radiators available on request — full winter cosiness, honestly described. Bring warm socks and slippers if you are staying during the colder months.
We can arrange a welcome hamper, a meal ready for late arrivals, or restaurant reservations — just ask when you book Linen changes and mid-stay cleans available on request.
Whether you’re here for the art, the market, the mountains or the coast, The Artist’s House gives you Céret exactly as it should be lived — from the middle of it.
