Visitez le Oakland Spice Shop et cuisinez dans notre cuisine entiĂšrement Ă©quipĂ©e avec des appareils haut de gamme, ou sortez dans tous les restaurants Ă©tonnants qui entourent le lac. Marchez jusqu'Ă  Bart ou louez un FORD GOBIKE ou un scooter (LIME & BIRD) disponibles dans tout le lac. Great place to stay. A lot of living space for a family to spread out. Also had designated parking which is a huge bonus if arriving late.

Amazing 5 Days in Oakland

Lovely California Christmas

We came west to celebrate a family holiday. This place could not have been more perfect. It had the best outfitted kitchen I have ever encountered at a vacation rental. It was comfortable, spacious, tasteful, and convenient. The whole process was seamless.

Excellent Stay

Great place to stay during our visit to our daughter in Oakland. Carlos has decorated the unit nicely. There is plenty of room to spread out. I have bad knees and had no problems with the stairs. Hope to be back.

Best VRBO ever!

My husband and I were in the area visiting relatives. The location was perfect. We would have been satisfied with that as long as the dwelling was adequate. But we were thrilled even as we walked up the porch steps: fragrant blossoms in the lovely landscaped front garden. Excellent taste in style blend with comfort in this gorgeous flat. The natural light brightens everything and the views are stellar- What a backyard! We were sad to leave our beloved relatives-- but just as sad to leave this amazing VRBO

Great Choice

My husband, 16 year-old son and I had a wonderful time at Carlos' place. The apartment was very clean and comfortable. We loved the artwork and the proximity to Lake Merritt. When the smaller bedroom got too hot due to an increase in temperature, we requested a fan and Carlos provided one right way. Communication with him was seamless. We highly recommend this apartment.

Wonderful stay by Lake Merritt!

We needed a place to stay in Oakland for 12 days, and are so glad we found Carlos’s fantastic place. Super cozy, charming and comfortable, it was perfect for us. It’s full of character and personal touches, and feels very much like a home instead of a rental. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was modern and functional, closet was great, kitchen was well supplied and easy to use, and the two different living room spaces really helped us spread out. There is lots of artwork and some funky antiques too. Most of all, Carlos was an amazing host and a true gentleman. Loved the neighborhood too. We’d stay there again in a second!

A home away from home

This was the second time we stayed at this home which may be all you need to know. It's clean with plenty of room to spread out and most of the conveniences one would expect. It's close (walking distance of about a 1/2 mile with a steep return climb) to shopping and dining areas and to public transportation should you choose not to use a car to get around. Carlos and his family are very warm and welcoming, and it was good to know that they were there just in case (but there were no problems, happily). We highly recommend this rental and hope to stay there again when we next visit Oakland.

Spacious, peaceful, unique

Carlos's Oakland property is a lovely oasis of peace and comfort. We felt instantly at home. Light- filled and spacious, this second floor flat is decorated in beautiful style with interesting collections of books, artwork, and curios. Very clean, well-appointed, and safe, and the listing photos show it very well - the reality surpassed our expectations. A perfect home-base to explore SF and the Bay area, with walking-distance to Oakland grocery, restos, and shops. We had such a nice family holiday and I hope to be back sooner rather than later. Art-full Place to Stay

The property is as advertised but the pictures don't do it justice. The unit is a second floor duplex with a locked private entrance that is totally separated from the downstairs unit where the owner lives. We never heard a peep from folks below us. It was quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. Carlos has filled this lovely unit with art he's collected over the years. It's interesting, whimsical, and delightful. It's an older house with modern bathroom, kitchen, and flooring. The unit is well-appointed with amenities to meet your needs. There are games, CDs, a Roku TV, all the kitchen goodies, etc. The neighborhood is safe and very near restaurants, shops, a vintage movie palace (the Grand Lake Theater), and a great urban park (Lake Merritt). It's convenient by highway to S.F. and the Bay Area. Our only quibble -- and involves a purely a personal and subjective matter of preference -- is the bed in the master bedroom was a bit too firm for our taste. We would recommend this great unit without reservation, and with our full endorsement. We'd go back there in a heartbeat if time and circumstances allow.

Delightful Lake Merritt area flat, charming and convenient, couldn't have been happier!

We had the most wonderful 2-night stay at this lovely second-story, fully-furnished and equipped flat just 2 blocks from Lake Merritt in Oakland's Cleveland Heights (Haddon Hill) neighborhood. The two-bedroom apartment has its own private entrance, is fully furnished with separate den-TV room, sun-room/bedroom, perfectly appointed kitchen, and an adjoining living area. The property abounds with trees, has an intriguing, clay 'turtle house' in back, and is in a really lovely, quiet neighborhood. The owners have decorated the living space with an unusually eclectic and tasteful mix of artworks and artifacts from around the world, and it gives a truly welcoming, warm and intriguing ambience to all the rooms. Our hosts, Carlos and Katherine, were most welcoming, offering full explanations of the amenities and also a fascinating history of the home and property. The rental was just minutes from the lovely Lake Merritt, an amazing farmers' market (on Saturday mornings), and a plethora of shops (Oaktown Spice Shop was a fave!!), cafes (Arizmendi bakery!), restaurants, and other attractions. Chinatown and many other neighborhoods are also within walking distance, so we used out car only to go to Redwood Regional Park, an amazing wilderness so close by. The provided off-street parking space was an extra and much-appreciated benefit! We give this property our highest possible rating, and we definitely intend to return, to continue our explorations of this unique corner of Oakland. Thank you, folks! You were truly wonderful hosts, and we felt entirely at home in your space.

Hello...My name is Carlos, I own WeBeBop a women's apparel company which specializes in large sizes. My wife is Katherine and she works for UC's Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Our son Leo is in 10th grade. He loves math and science, is on a water polo team and practices capoeira. We are all foodies, and love to cook and travel, garden, and do outdoor activities and urban adventures.

My wife and I both grew up in Southern California and moved to the SF Bay Area to attend UC Berkeley. We have lived in Oakland for around 20 years and love the area! We would be happy to share a our tips about restaurants and things to do.

Location, location, location...We love our home because it's in the heart of everything. Originally one house built in 1912, we have spent the last 15 years transforming this place into an amazing, arty duplex.

Being able to walk everywhere is awesome. Being by the lake, "the jewel of Oakland," offers walking/running paths and a picnicking scene. We are close to lovely shopping districts with local eateries, shops, a historic movie theater, and the Saturday Farmers' Market. And if you have young kids we are walking distance to Fairyland, a charming, historic amusement park.

Our house has many wonderful unique features...Like the two Balinese statues in the front, the dark bamboo floors, the denim wall, and lots of sunshine! You will feel as if your staying in a magical tree house.

This house has been a labor of love for our entire family.
