Kia ora,This house is a lovely old house with a lot of interesting history. The main area can be kept warm by a very efficient woodfire. The house was clean and the beds comfortable, and it is a lovely, short walk to the beach. However, at present the house is in the process of being restored, and the details and level of this were only shared a few days before arrival, hearing that machinery and boards would be being stored in bedrooms and around the house. The house was big enough for it not to be in our way. But it did feel a bit like we were on a house restoration site. When completed it will be lovely! A disappointment was that there were not bedside lamps in all rooms and in one there was a bedside lamp but with a cord that could not reach any plug socket! We had to go on a hunt for extension cords around the house. A couple of extra stored away heaters would be helpful for the bedrooms during colder weather. The sun coming out on the last day allowed us to enjoy the lovely verandah. All in all we had a lovely stay.

Thanks for the feedback, always good to know how we can improve the experience for our guests. To clarify though there are not boards and machinery stored in bedrooms around the house. There was one sheet of chipboard leaning against a wall behind a couch in the lounge and a dropsaw in one bedroom. We would normally store these in our shed but did not have space this time. The old house is 140 years old and has been a labour of love as we slowly restore it, so we always have projects on the go. These projects are improving the house for us and our guests over time and is part of the package we have offered for the past 15 years. We are careful to minimise the impact that any renovations have on the guest experience.

Beautiful, spacious old home with so much character. The house was spotless, very well looked after, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We had a wonderful time even with the rainy weather, as the home was warm and relaxing to be in. The hosts provided amazing, clear instructions and communication for our stay. The locals were amazing and very welcoming. Would happily stay again.

Great place to stay for a relaxing few days

The property is very charismatic with plenty of space and well equipped kitchen, ideally located in the small village. Beach is a short drive away if you have fishing gear or a 10min walk. Would defiantly recommend if you are looking for a peaceful few days of relaxing.

Unfortunately the weather turned but the fireplace and magazines and comfortable bed and birdsong made the visit worthwhile.

Great communication from the host and very detailed and clear instructions. This house is amazing with so much history in it......literally. There is heaps of room and everything you need, plus a nice viewing spot at the back of the section via a small bush walk. We'll definitely be back again. The neighbor across the road makes great coffee and real fruut ice cream for sale.

Family long weekend get away

Beautiful home to stay in over the long-weekend. Lain made everything super simple, inviting and the instructions were easy to follow. Child friendly with plenty of toys to entertain them. Herbertville beach just down the road too.

Beautiful days at a beautiful Place

We had three lovely days in Herbertville. The house and its location were amazing. We enjoyed having the beach to ourselves and coming back to a roomy beautiful house in the evening. The kids loved the Dune and Fossils at the other end of the beach.

Perfect base for a relaxing, quiet beach holiday

Huge house with a fascinating history and vintage decor. Loved the 'secret' garden out the back. The picnic table up the top is a perfect place to enjoy meals or just hang out as it's sheltered from the prevailing wind and has great views. Really comfy bed and couches.

Herbertville getaway

The cottage was lovely with lots of space for the whole family. The house had everything we needed. We loved having a wood burner as the winter weather was on the colder side. We enjoyed meals at the pub which is in walking distance. We would love to return in the summer to explore Herbertville more.

Gracious old villa

Really enjoyed our stay. Heaps of space in a beautiful old villa... just my style. Absolutely loved the native plants on the walk up the back. Lovely area to have a wine in the evenings. We will be back.

A week in Herbertville

Spacious character home. Really good renovation, would love to see how it ends up. Kids loved the toys and puzzles. Lovely little village, pub meals were excellent. Friendly locals, would definitely come back.

Lovely character home perfect for a relaxing getaway

Had a lovely quiet family Christmas at this property. Great for those wanting to unwind and relax. Easy access to the beach. Property was well provisioned and heaps of DVDs and games supplied to appease the kids. Bonus of the coffee van across the road.

Wow, where to start! Beautiful location, beautiful home. The old villa has been renovated to maintain the original antique features and is also very homely and comfortable. A lot of work has gone into developing a beautiful garden retreat out the back with ocean views. Clean and tidy, friendly hosts and locals. Stunning beach. The photos don't do the home or land and seascapes justice. We'll be back. Thanks team!

A little piece of heaven!

A slice of paradise.... We had the most amazing stay....everything was amazing right from the start. The house was cosy and warm. The community were so inviting, the views were spectacular and the peace?....outstanding! We will definitely be going again!! Absolutely loved it!!!

It was like the good old days !

We really enjoy staying in your Historic House, that had everything we needed, Loved the old telephone that was quite novel along with many other items in the house that goes with the house Era. It was better than expected and the bed super comfortable! Loved the park you created behind the house too. It was good to get away from it all and many thanks..
