Sitting high on a mesa, this private sun-filled estate encompasses 14 acres in the Arroyo Seco Highlands overlooking the Arroyo Seco River Canyon and the Ventana Wilderness. Once the site of an early California wellness retreat and a stagecoach stop, the estate sets the vibe for a place to get away from it all! The entire property has been lovingly restored including:

A fully stocked country kitchen
Lush ornamental gardens with fruit trees
A 55-foot heated pool
A park-like setting with large open social and play areas and shady pergolas
2 charcoal BBQs & a propane grill

Enjoy a glass of Mesa Del Sol wine while you take in magnificent views in every direction of the winding Arroyo Seco River and surrounding mountain wilderness. Guests are welcome to collect fresh eggs daily from our chickens and harvest from the organic garden and numerous fruit trees. Kids can run free on the expansive green lawns, bring their own floats to splash in the pool, swing to the heavens from the 300-year-old oak tree swing or toddler swingset, and watch the wildlife at every turn. The whole family can try their skills in a competitive game of basketball, volleyball, croquet, and even (faux) ax throwing.

The front acreage is devoted to the organic vineyard producing award-winning wines including Syrah, Zinfandel, Sangiovese, and Grenache. A pond adds nutrients to the vineyard for our sustainable organic farming practices with fascinating wildlife viewing from the dock. Our wines are available at a discount to our guests for tasting and sale, which supports our working vineyardStep back into a special place and time during your stay at Mesa Del Sol with its history-filled legacy and peaceful, easy feeling within the golden hills and canyon of the Arroyo Seco Appellation. This estate is absolutely amazing, waking up to the sunrise in the Gorge is breathtaking. You walk into the kitchen and you feel like you are at your grandmother's house, all amenities are provided for, pots, pans, baking goods and utensils. Our favorite was being able to get fresh eggs every morning and fresh herbs from the property. The wine is superb! I would highly recommend this oasis in wine country.

Loved it! Do not pack any type of kitchen appliance or spice, they had everything truly. We loved the fresh produce on site and made use of every inch of the property. Perfect for our family reunion! (14 adults, three kids)

Loved it

We stayed at Gary's place for a friend's bachelor party. The home was beautiful, the property was serene and it was a short drive from pinnacle national park which was also a great trip. Highly recommend staying here.

A remote getaway, perfect for a family trip. We traveled with three families and the kids were never bored. The views and outdoor communal spaces were idillic. It was hard to leave.

Relaxed family gathering

Mesa del Sol was ideal for our family gathering. There are many areas to gather comfortably and enjoy the view of the canyon and the beautiful landscaping. The remoteness of the location was a plus for us because we didn't feel we had to go out sightseeing. We just stayed put and enjoyed the refreshingly cold pool and heating up in the sun.

Magical Family Gathering!

Our whole family wanted an amazing California adventure and we got everything we dreamed of and more with this wonderful property. Beautiful views, comfortable rooms, great kitchen and multiple grills. The pool! The lazy-susan table under the oak tree! Chickens! A safari tent! Start to finish this was the best vacation rental we have ever found!

Spectacular! A total GEM!

Amazing property. Well appointed. So clean. We stayed for a famiky reunion with 14 adults and a group of kids from infant to 7years old and it was the perfect place to stay. The kids had a blast. The outdoor grill was so fun. The pool was heated! Gary was so easy to communicate with. We will be back! Highly recommend!

Exceeded expectations on all counts

Mesa del Sol is a unique, idyllic property where you don't have to go anywhere else to have a fabulous time. The majestic old oak trees, the different patio areas to enjoy the weather and the extraordinary views, the amazing swimming pool with two restrooms with showers, the well stocked and equipped kitchen, the hot tub, the outbuildings with their own beds and baths– can't imagine how it could be better. If you get a chance to visit the property and meet Gary and Stacey and sample the wines before your visit all the better. The wine is a great complement to your stay - taste the terroir under the shade of the oak tree. A very special place.

Beautiful historic family villa

This home is better described as a villa, with a sprawling main house and two cozy adjacent cottages. You can tell this was a place Teddy Roosevelt stayed, it has a sense of gravitas. Overlooking the Arroyo Seco river valley, the views are majestic with well-placed outlooks with nice comfortable chairs. The tree swing is an amazing touch, and our kids had endless imaginative play sitting in the old red truck! Nicely placed hot tub over the valley and for stargazing. Much space for play and tree climbing. And the 40 minute drive to Pinnacles was worth it for a majestic hike, and the drive was pretty. This is an incredibly special place for those who would appreciate these characteristics. It’s a place to be treated with care. Thank you for opening it to guests!

Family and Friends July 4th

Our group had the most amazing time at this incredibly beautiful property! We had ample room, the kitchen and all the accommodations were so well stocked and supplied it felt like we were home. And with our crew who love to cook, that's impressive! Spectacular views, gorgeous property, delicious wine. Stars and sky that go on forever. Stargazing was a highlight. The kids loved the chickens and the garden is gorgeous and impressive. The heat wave during the time we were there reached a soaring 112 degrees one day. We stayed cool in the pool and shade, and the house was kept at a very comfortable temperature by opening the windows at night and closing them and drawing the shades by mid-late morning. Gary was easy to communicate with and always quick to respond. Mesa Del Sol is a real gem, full of magic. We can't wait to return to make more memories.

Private country estate with views

Great property if you're looking for rest and relaxation, privacy and space to stretch out (outdoors) for a large group. Lots of outdoor seating, grassy areas, dirt basketball court, large well-kept outdoor pool, hot tub with expansive views. Our extended family of teens, adults and elders enjoyed our time together. The VRBO listing says "luxurious" but that is only part-true. While the main house has a great master bedroom with view and nice bathroom, the main house only sleeps 8. For larger parties you use the other 2 buildings, each sleeps 4, and these would be better described as rustic and/or campy (darker, dusty, small, bugs). The bathroom in our building "the Stone House" was small, no room on the sink for any toiletries, and the shower dark and small (and my son had to dispense with bugs in the shower). We preferred to shower at the pool shower which had more light. Also, there was no wifi in our building. The main house kitchen is well-stocked, roomy, with higher-end appliances. We spent most of our time in the kitchen, dining nook, dining room and outdoors (large terrace, pool). The main house living room is dimly lit. Overall a nice experience if you stay in the main house and outdoors, and a rustic experience for those who have to sleep in the extra buildings. The host Gary was very communicative and responsive. The hosts have a winery and offered their wine to us for purchase for a discount.

The property location is on a mesa at the edge of the Arroyo Seco with a beautiful view up and down the gorge. Toward the end of May, the water was visible down in the river. We saw a bald eagle, wild pigs (on the opposite side of the Arroyo) and numerous birds. If you enjoy nature, you will love relaxing in the hot tub or sitting in one of the several seating areas that overlook the gorge. It is magical on mornings before the mist clears. There were sixteen in our group and main house has a wonderful spacious living room that fit us all comfortably for group activities. Seating in the kitchen and dining room also accommodated us all for meals. The kitchen was very well equipped. We brought in all our own food and we found adequate space for it in the two refrigerator. I would advise asking to see the floor plan of bedrooms in advance if you have a large group so you can plan where people will be accurately. I slept in the Glamping Tent and really enjoyed it after we fixed the electrical connection for lights (check the hot tub breakers) and I got two more blankets. For those who want to lounge and read and meditate there are beautiful places to do that. For those who want more activity, you can enjoy swimming, badminton, corn hole, ball, etc. Access to the river is just 4 miles down the road to left as you pull out of the driveway. Every one had a great time and would like to go back.

Amazing stay!

Cozy and inviting property, with breathtaking views (including an unbelievable night sky)! Both adults and kids had a wonderful time. The hosts were very responsive and the instructions for the stay were clear and detailed. I would highly recommend this property!

We were a large group and the property was perfect for meeting all our varied needs with great places to both have some private time and plenty of places for smaller groups and privacy. Every room was perfectly clean and comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped and in working order. Beautiful views, garden and pool. No complaints!

Mesa del Sol is idyllic. It is gorgeous, well maintained and more than delivers on the pictures shared. It was perfect for our family event 6 adults, 8 kids (ages 10-21). It was well worth the slightly long drive from Los Angeles.

Beautiful property, great hosts

Big, beautiful property that exceeded our expectations. The place was clean and well stocked. They have several bbqs that are easy access with an amazing view of the valley below. The hosts are very responsive and gave us all the information we needed and then some. They also took to the time to show us around the property and talk about the vineyards which really added to the experience. The property is very remote so reception is non existent. The wifi is fast enough to host a good amount of devices at a relatively fast speed. Overall, we had an amazing experience and would happily book again.

Perfect for a little reunion

Property is beautiful with a great view out over the canyon. We made good use of the pool, hot tub, and all of the outdoor hangout areas. Wines were excellent too. Highly recommended.

Stacey and Gary have a horse ranch in Carmel Valley about 30 miles from Mesa Del Sol. Gary is a semi retired Biotech executive and Stacey is a retired lawyer and active real estate agent in the Carmel/Pebble Beach area. Since our VRBO listing became active 3/15/21, we do not yet have reviews from guests. However, Mesa Del Sol has been an active VRBO property for years and is rated a 5 star property, 4.9 out of 5. We are wine enthusiasts and have long dreamed of owning our own vineyard and making our own wine. We fell in love with MDS. It is a unique boutique, organic, sustainable winery producing high quality and award winning wines, including Syrah, Zinfandel, Sangiovese and Grenache, spread over 14 acres. Like stepping back to a bygone era, the estate is filled with history, including a visit by Teddy Roosevelt when it was a wellness retreat. The Main Ranch House, Cowboy House and Stone House, the oldest structure dating back to the1800’s and once a stage coach depot, have been upgraded to accommodate larger groups and events.
