Fern Cottage is a charming 2BR/2BA Bavarian-style cottage on Beech Mountain. Fern Cottage rests on a quiet property with a gently sloping back yard where children and dogs can play safely, and native wildlife such as wild turkey, whitetail deer, red fox, and even an occasional black bear might make a brief appearance. Enjoy the outdoors from the main level open-air deck, which stretches from the front, around the side, and across the back of the cottage, offering a gas grill and outdoor seating and dining options. The covered lower rear porch features a small bistro table and chairs and leads out to the backyard. Surrounded by trees on all three sides, Fern Cottage has a cozy "treehouse" feel in late spring, summer, and early fall. After the October leaf season, through winter and into early spring, seasonal views open up. Fern Cottage takes on a new persona as a more active and vibrant family dynamic populates Beech Mountain to enjoy the winter weather activities at the Ski Resort.

The main level of Fern Cottage offers an open Living Room and Dining Area, with a huge wood-burning stone fireplace, a massive HD Smart TV, a comfortable leather sofa, glass doors leading to the rear deck, and framing wooded and seasonal mountain views. The dining table seats four to six but can expand to accommodate as many as eight guests. The adjacent Kitchen, recently renovated, boasts stainless appliances and granite countertops, and is equipped to prepare and serve meals to a full house. Also on the main level are two King bedrooms, each with an HD Smart TV and a full bathroom with a tub and shower combo.

The lower level of Fern Cottage features a large Family Room with a wood-burning stone fireplace and an HD Smart TV. There is also a bar area with a fridge, sink, microwave, coffee maker, a table and chairs, and a comfy leather sofa that opens to a Queen sleeper. There is a second full bathroom on the lower level with a shower and a laundry room with a washer and dryer. The porch with the bistro table is accessible from the family room. On the front of the lower level, tucked below the main level front patio, is a small, quiet nook where children and dogs can use their imaginations to add another fun element to their time at Fern Cottage.

In addition to the two wood-burning stone fireplaces, four HD Smart TVs, full Kitchen with new appliances, 2 King bedrooms, lower level bar, queen sleeper sofa, and laundry room with washer and dryer, guests will enjoy the high-speed WiFi internet, digital cable TV programming, and the thermostat-controlled heat and air conditioning on both levels. Dogs are allowed at Fern Cottage, one dog per reservation with a strict 50-pound weight limit. Standard pet fees apply, no pets are allowed on furniture or beds, and all pets must be crated or kenneled if left at the cottage unattended.

Less than a mile from the ski and snowboard slopes, ice skating rink, and snow tube runs at Beech Mountain Ski Resort, Fern Cottage is an ideal winter destination where guests can enjoy their favorite winter activities. Or relax at the cottage in front of a crackling fireplace, watching the snowfall.

During the spring, summer, and fall, guests come to enjoy award-winning mountain biking and hiking trails and a mountaintop disc golf course. Beech Mountain also offers a mini-golf course, weekend summer concert series, and scenic lift rides during particular peak summer and fall days, which the whole family can enjoy. There are numerous excellent restaurants, coffee shops, and different shopping options at Beech Mountain for guests to enjoy.

The Buckeye Lake and Recreation Center is only 4 miles away from Fern Cottage. The recreation facility offers indoor and outdoor basketball, pickleball, and tennis courts. In addition to the indoor courts are volleyball, fitness and weight room, exercise rooms for facilitated fitness classes, locker rooms with showers and bathrooms, childcare center, and more. At the lake itself, guests can indulge in fishing, kayaking and canoeing, and picnicking at one of a handful of waterfront gazebos. There is a playground, a climbing frame, outdoor soccer, baseball, and softball fields, and trail hikes to a beautiful waterfall.

The town of Banner Elk is only 5 miles from Fern Cottage, at the foot of Beech Mountain, and boasts some of the best restaurants in the High Country, a downtown outdoor park where fun local craft fairs and other family-friendly events take place regularly. There is a Dog Park and Butterfly Garden, delightful for children and adults. Other fun attractions like The Banner Elk Winery and Vineyard, Ketelworks Brewery, Wilderness Run Outdoor Alpine Roller Coaster, and Sugar Creek Gem Mining are all in or near the downtown area, less than 8 miles from Fern Cottage.

This cozy getaway nestled in the woods boasts an open-concept floor plan, a kitchen with granite countertops, stainless appliances, and seating for six at the dining table. The living area has comfy leather seating surrounding the wood-burning fireplace and a large HD Smart TV. There is a mini-split unit in the living room for heating and air conditioning. Outside is a partially covered deck overlooking the yard and wooded mountain views.

The upper level has two king bedrooms with HD Smart TVs, which share a full bathroom with a tub-shower combo. Also on the lower level is a queen-sized sleeper sofa, full bathroom, wood-burning fireplace, and deck access. There is a second living area on the lower level with a kitchenette with a coffee pot, microwave, mini-fridge, and dining for up to six.

There is level parking for two (2) vehicles. Access to this home from the front parking area involves about eight (8) steps down onto the main level front porch and level side entry door into the Living Room. The inside stairs that go from the main level to the lower level are slightly narrower and steeper, conducive to the cottage's style and the era when it was built. Guests with mobility impairments might want to be confident that this is a safe and comfortable option for them.
