Skip’s Rustic River Cabin near Okefenokee Swamp

The river is calling your name! Answer the call at Skip’s River Cabin on the Upper St. Marys River between Folkston and St. George, Georgia. Sits right at the river’s edge, the cabin is the perfect home away from home for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers.
Located just 3 miles from the East entrance to the legendary Okefenokee Swamp, this retreat serves up a bounty of fishing opportunities. Bring your small boat or just enjoy swimming, kayaking, and canoeing the beautiful St Marys River.

Important note: The St Mary’s river floods every other other year or so and when it does, the road in can be impassable. There are two options: I can make arrangements to have canoes there for you to load and paddle a short distance to the cabin or you will need to cancel as the guest and get a full refund. We know several days in advance when its going to flood and I will let you know as sops as I see I will flood. It’s actually my wife and my favorite time to go during the rare flood. It’s an island paradise and an incredible adventure. (-:

Very rustic and small, but very clean and comfy! Overlooks beautiful St Marys river. Great views, deck, porch, grill, and all items needed are there. Fun place for couple or small group. Highly recommend.

Skip's rustic cabin is definitely rustic, which was fine with me. I was looking for peace and quiet, and got it! The cabin was a good base to explore Okefenokee swamp, and also the beach on Amelia island. The nearby sandbank was perfect for sitting out and swimming in the river. My dog enjoyed it as well!

I was looking for something very rustic for me and my two goldendoodles. It was perfect and exactly what I was looking for. I loved all the unique decor and it was very comfortable. The drive to the property from the main road was also rustic and added to the uniqueness of the property. I will definitely be coming back again.

Beautiful Cabin

Very fun experience overall. Loved the proximity to the Okefenokee. Enjoyed the fact that the cabin is also nice to walk around and explore. Lots of beautiful wildlife around. Close enough to town so you can stock up on groceries and try local restaurants. Definitely would come back.

The place was great except for the hot water and the broken shower head. The area was very quiet. We hsd the area to ourselves until our last night.

Perfect swamp getaway

We had a great getaway for three days. The pictures and description don’t do the place justice. A great cabin to relax and reconnect. Just sitting on the rocking chairs on the porch with a coffee, a canoe trip on the river and sitting by the fire place was everything we needed. Skip was a great host and responded right away, making sure we had everything we needed. Would recommend anytime - 4x4 is recommended when rainy :-) Thank you for a great stay!

I would agree with the "Rustic" description.

Beware of sulfur water and a problem with limited hot water for showers. The kitchen and bathroom could use an update. The entire house could use a decluttering and purge of worn-out, damaged items (pots and pans, blankets, window treatments, towels, etc). However, we enjoyed our stay. The remote setting is quiet and relaxing. The outdoor space is a wonderful place to unwind and take in nature. They have a fun display of collectibles that adds whimsy to the ambiance.

Fantastic getaway in a gorgeous location!

We absolutely loved our stay at this sweet little cabin. We had all the basic communities that we needed and were very comfortable. I especially loved being able to sit on the porch and watch the river go by, and our host was absolutely gracious and a great communicator. Even though we got in after dark, we found his directions to be very accurate and made getting around in a gorgeously dark area much easier. We are excited to plan our next getaway here!

Property was absolutely beautiful and the house was perfect i highly recommended for the owner to update the photos on the listing because they do seem dated and do not do the house justice its adorable and so very cozy the road in and out is a bit scary after a good rain but if thats all i have to complain about ill take it

Great little cabin

Loved our stay- it was cold, but the cabin remained warm. Slow cooker was a bonus for dinners. Caught plenty of fish right off the bank. Perfect getaway from our neck of the woods!

Peaceful & Perfect

My husband and i came to enjoy a quiet getaway for our 20th anniversary. We love to be in nature, away from crowds of people. This was perfect! We spent many hours on the porch, sitting and reading our talking, and watching the river run by. It is a rustic cabin style home so if you need luxury, this is not for you. There was nothing missing that stood out to me. Everything was functional and comfortable Quite nostalgic furnishings. The flood lines on the house were wild! If you go, you HAVE to try the Asian Fusion restaurant in town, it is AMAZING. Definitely visit the Okefenokee. Most importantly, sit and watch the river.. It's good for your soul.

Family get a way

Our family of 4 absolutely loved this place and our dogs also high enjoyed it as well. We had the bad luck of it raining majority of time so we weren’t able to use the amenities but my kids did fish for their first time and had a blast. Will definitely request another stay in the future.

Get away

Very nice, remote little cabin. A little small for 5 people and not much for modern conveniences, however it served our purpose very well. I would return with a smaller group and better weather.
