Other details to note
Location
The village of Filoti is famous for its beautiful olive groves and quaint Byzantine churches. Every summer the village hosts Naxos island’s largest traditional festival, or “glendi”, a three-day celebration with dancing and feasting beginning on August 15th. The village is the most populated in the Cyclades and provides all the services and amenities required by the traveler, including several small supermarkets, pharmacy, ATMs, petrol station, butcher, bakery, doctor, hairdresser, cafes and tavernas.

Lovely Naxos is one of the most populated islands in the Cyclades, with a significant number of people staying on the island year-round. This means that the island does not shut down in winter, services are available throughout the year. Naxos is the largest and most fertile island in the Cyclades, with beautiful sandy beaches and pretty traditional villages. There are significant traditional festivals and cultural events of interest to the traveler which take place every year during the summer until September, including the Naxos festival, Wine Festival and Fisherman’s Festival.

In summer Naxos is a convenient launch pad to visiting other islands, without the inconvenience of returning to Athens first. There are more than 30 islands accessible within 1-2 hours by ferry, with prices ranging from only 10-20€. Guests can also arrange for a smaller boat The stunning Small Cyclades in particular should not be missed, encompassing the charming islands of Koufonisia, Schinousa, Donoussa, and Iraklia. Naxos is still one of the more affordable of the islands, with the cost of food, drink and sunbeds generally lower than in other popular destinations in the Cyclades.

Family friendly
We are a family friendly space and we take the safety and comfort of our little friends seriously. At our property you will find the following available on request:
- Baby bed
- Highchair
- Baby bath

Cottage guidelines
Every care and effort has been made to make Elaia Cottage as comfortable as possible for our guests. It has been renovated with care, utilising the highest quality materials available. We are happy to help in any way we can to make your stay memorable. All we request is that the cottage and its interiors are respected. Repairs can be challenging to organise on the islands, and prevention is better than cure.

Almond Blossom Cottage aims to be environmentally sustainable, with solar panels for electricity and responsible sourcing of water. Please turn lights and the air conditioner off when not in use, and take the card which connects the cottage’s electricity when you go out (this will prevent the cottage catching fire in the event anything is accidently left on in the kitchen).

The cottage has solar power and during much of the year the Cycladic sun offers all the energy needed. During the cooler months there is a hot water system which can be switched on/off when required.

5 adults, 7 day stay

We booked for the whole villa however upon arrival she didn't want to give the door codes to one of the rooms. She sent aggressive texts when we asked for access to this room, see below. She spam messaged a lot on WhatsApp, Facebook and Vrbo prior to the booking to give tips and info but it was stressful communication. She's now mentioned she will take my advice and create a pdf welcome doc. Cameras in all communal areas, even above outdoor shower. Downstairs room was unfinished. No rules or housekeeping communicated prior to arrival so we didn't know what was expected unless we reached out to her via text. Welcome basket provided but we needed to collect it in town and we weren't given any slippers for the stay. Given that it was all food items, it would have been great if it was in the fridge ready for our arrival instead of a task for us to complete. The kitchen table has food caked on from previous stays. The rooms were nice but only two of them had AC and some had dirt on from the ceiling. Stairs up to the villa is unlit and difficult. Gorgeous views though. The host attitude improved towards the end of the stay. We recommend anyone stay in filoti/ Naxos however this villa is very inaccessible for any disabled, blind, elderly or young children or anyone who might have difficulty hiking/climbing. I've noticed since booking other people's reviews have gone missing. I hope this doesn't as this is honest and genuine feedback based on our experience as 5 individuals.

You received the WHOLE VILLA INSTEAD of 1unit.All the directions have been shared months in advance the codes a day in advance. There was no communication, you didn't respond and you have the rudeness to judge me for being consistent in my communication, shame on you! We contacted the taxi you had reserved and even find his phone and stayed awake until 3am to confirm that you will arrive safely! We explained to you from the beginning that there is a second path without stairs and we shared you the pin. The cameras are only on the balcony(2)like in every hotel or work not in the bathtroom I can REPORT YOU FOR THIS BIG LIE and all! If they bothered you that much, you could simply cover them with a piece of paper. All the rooms have air conditioning except the exotic room which opens and closes in part and lets air in. We will add the 4th bedroom.Because of the stone walls they usally use ac only 10 days in August until now. Separately there are ceilingsl fans. All the people on the islands live with stairs and children unbelievable that you couldn't in a few days.(without children) I pick up the people and provide breakfast basket but when I'm not on the island you should make a stop to get it over instead saying"thank you " I pay separately a man to follow the road and carry the suitcases!! I understand that if you are disabled or blind you should ask yourself some questions. All the rooms were made to perfection. They can all read my 100 Great reviews on Airbnb,Shame Disgrace!

Points faibles : Propreté, communication et exactitude de l’annonce.
We ended up leaving the place shortly after arriving, as we deemed it unfit to stay during early spring. It might be fine for summer, but it is quite unfit for colder seasons. Heating doesn’t work properly, it was freezing, even after we left AC on at 27 degrees for 45 minutes. The doors don’t shut tightly, air comes through and under. Although the place is described as suitable for up to 9 guests when renting the whole place, there is no indoor seating area, just a tiny table and a sofa - nowhere suited for having meals or sitting together as a family. There is an outside table for dining - which might be OK when it’s hot and dry, but in cold/wet seasons, staying in for meals and cooking is quite difficult. The layout of the place is strange - you enter through the toilet area, which cannot be closed off from the rest of the unit, as there is no door between toilet and bedroom/kitchen. Same goes for the other small unit. Although we were supposed to have access to the unit below, it was locked by key - or perhaps the door bound so hard, we couldn’t open it. Cleaning standard was poor - spider webs, dust, leaves on the floor inside, moldy toilet paper rolls. We got the feeling that we were the first guests of the season, and that nobody had cared for the place since season ended last year. Communication with Marie was really bad. She spun completely out of control when presented with questions and criticism, sending 50+ increasingly aggressive messages. Go somewhere else.

Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement

One of the most beautiful villages of Naxos is FILOTI,
a main exporter of Naxian emery during the 20th century.
Walking through its marble-covered narrow streets, between the whitewashed houses, will offer some of the most wonderful moments of the summer. Notice the marble frames and impressive domed arches, explore its museums and listen for the musical dialect and rhymes coming from the locals.

The village of Filoti, whose name hails from ancient times and is thought to be of Ionian origin, is comprised of three smaller settlements, Rachidi, Klefaro, and Liiri, with a total population of 1,800 who cherish their hometown and traditions.

Filoti’s liveliness and cultural richness is made evident upon entry to the village while headed for its main square.

The village’s main square, Gefyra, is surrounded by cafes, traditional eateries offering mezedes (small dish varieties), restaurants and a variety of retail outlets. An imposing plane tree dominates the square’s center.

Interesting sights in Filoti’s surrounding area include the Arion fountain, Zas cave –located at the mountain’s slope, Chimarros tower on the road to Kalantos, as well as numerous Byzantine chapels.

Popular traditions, including the ancient customs of Chirosfagia, Klydonas and Plitheri, remain very much alive at Filoti.

The village also hosts the island’s biggest traditional feast, with dancing to the sounds of local violins –a three-day event starting August 15 when the Church of Panagia Filotitissa honors the Assumption of the Virgin.

Filoti village is well-known for the excellent quality of its livestock products, such as lamb and goat’s meat, a variety of cheese products (kefalotyri, anthotyro, xinotyro, arseniko, myzithra), while a woman’s cooperative is reputed for the sweet preserves (glyka koutaliou) it produces and sells.
When on vacation on Naxos, visit Filoti village and enjoy contemporary village life.
