Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention and we are very sorry you were unable to make the vacation home work for yourself and guests. Over the past 12 years of renting, we have had many repeat tenants who were satisfied with no complaints. I’m sorry that in order to get out the “musty” smell, you neglected to use the room sprays and candles, instead opening the cottage windows to “air out” the house bringing the outside humidity in. We are unfortunately in a period of intense climate change with flooding, fires, record high temperatures, and especially humid days. The house is equipped with a commercial dehumidifier that was also neglected during your stay. This humidity in the house unfortunately caused the carpet and cloth items to become “damp and musty.” As follow up on this complaint, we asked our cleaning service to relay any damp and/or musty items and smells to us and came up with none. In regard to the spiders, opening the windows and doors to “air out” does allow the critters to make their way inside. For the next guests, we had a pest exterminator and spider control called to the cottage for a second spraying, noting that no pest or spider infestations had happened. Your comment about a “bare concrete” floor is also incorrect, we have an area rug covering the floor and have had many renters say they prefer that room as the concrete under the soft rug helps ensure the room stays cool during the summer months. The home is described as a modern and executive vacation home because it is a “cottage” with modern, up-to-date amenities. I believe this comment is all in the eyes of the beholder – the pictures on the site depict exactly what the cottage will look like when you arrive. I have been pleasantly surprised with the guests that have chosen to stay at our cottage on Fotgergill Isle. I look forward to seeing them again.
