**Important Winter Note:** A professional snow-plow service maintains the driveway. However, during and immediately after storms, you may need to move your vehicles and perform light shoveling to ensure continued easy access.

Getting around the West End of Donner Lake like a true local requires a good understanding of the terrain and weather, especially in the winter months. Here are some key points to help you navigate the area efficiently and safely:



Public Transit:

The TART (Tahoe Area Regional Transit) bus stop is conveniently located just 3/4 of a mile from the cabin, providing easy access to downtown Truckee and other nearby areas, including North Lake Tahoe. This is a great option if you prefer not to drive, especially during snowy conditions. You can hop on the TART bus and reach Donner Pass Road, Old Highway 40, and even connect to Interstate 80.



Driving in Winter:

If you're driving, a 4x4 vehicle is strongly recommended during the winter months. The roads around Donner Lake can get steep, icy, and covered with heavy snow, making it challenging for 2-wheel drive vehicles. In fact, 2-wheel drive vehicles are not advisable in winter conditions here. Even with a 4x4 vehicle, it's crucial to have the correct chains with you, as snowstorms can come in quickly, and certain areas may require chains regardless of your vehicle type.



Lower clearance cars can easily get stuck or become high-centered in deep snow, especially after significant accumulations. Locals know the importance of having a vehicle that’s equipped to handle these conditions to avoid getting stranded. Always check the weather ahead of time, and prepare accordingly.



Access to Major Roads:

The cabin is conveniently located with access to Old Highway 40, Donner Pass Road, and Interstate 80, making it easy to reach ski resorts like Sugar Bowl and nearby towns like Truckee. During snowstorms, Old Highway 40 may close, but Interstate 80 is generally kept clear by Caltrans. Just be sure to plan your route in advance and check weather conditions before heading out.

* **Connectivity:** The home is equipped with fast Wi-Fi and an Ethernet connection is available for those needing a stable connection for remote work.

* **Entertainment:** Smart TVs are located in every bedroom as well as the main living spaces.

Since we live and work locally, we are familiar with the area's weather patterns, road conditions, and seasonal activities, allowing us to offer practical, timely assistance when needed. After 9:00 PM, our phones are turned off, and we ask that non-urgent matters be saved for the following morning.

Truckee is a quiet residential community, and the Town of Truckee actively enforces noise and parking regulations. We kindly ask guests to be mindful of these guidelines to ensure a respectful experience for both neighbors and fellow visitors.
