Welcome to Zen House Kominka – A Soulful Japanese Retreat in Oregon

Discover peace at Zen House Kominka, where centuries-old Japanese tradition meets the raw beauty of northeast Oregon. This serene escape features timbers and beams reclaimed from historic Japanese farmhouses—some over 200 years old—thoughtfully preserved to celebrate timeless craftsmanship.

Nestled among panoramic mountain vistas, our home is a tranquil haven for rest and reflection. From misty mornings to golden sunsets, every moment here invites stillness and connection.

Ideally located just 10 minutes from downtown Enterprise and 15 minutes from Joseph—an artsy mountain town filled with galleries, great dining, and outdoor fun. Wallowa Lake, a sparkling gem for nature lovers, is only 20 minutes away.

Zen House Kominka is designed for adults seeking calm and inspiration. We kindly do not accommodate guests under 18.

Kominka Paradise

We spent our honeymoon at Kominka. It was the most peaceful, relaxing and stunning way to begin our marriage. Our host was more generous and hospitable than we could have ever dreamed. The views were breathtaking and the house which smelled of wood was zen, clean and orderly. We sat for hours outside listening to the rustling breeze through the tall grass, enjoying "bird TV" in the skies overhead and watching the deer roam past. At night we gazed at the crisp stars, so close we could touch. We were very tired after wedding preparations and we will be forever thankful for this rejuvenating escape. Thank you!

Hi, I’m Kiyomi! I’m originally from Japan, now a U.S. citizen, and have lived in the beautiful Wallowa County for over 25 years. I’ve always loved sharing the mindful spirit of Japanese culture—through my tea business, life coaching, or hosting guests with home-cooked meals.

Hosting Zen House Kominka is one of my greatest joys. I love welcoming guests from all over and seeing how they experience the serenity of this Kominka—salvaged from Japan and lovingly upgraded to reflect the Japanese spirit, culture, and a sense of inclusivity. Whether you're watching the sunrise or sipping tea on the deck, my hope is that you’ll feel both grounded and inspired during your stay.

When I’m not hosting, I enjoy supporting Yu Tea, playing the piano, and coaching others to live with greater clarity and calm. I look forward to sharing a little piece of that serenity with you.

What I love most are the grand views of the Wallowa Mountains. They remind me that serenity is the best perspective from which to see the world, rather than fear.

Local restaurants and shops are just under 10 minutes away in downtown Enterprise, while the town of Joseph—with its beautiful arts, culture, shopping, and hiking—is only 15 minutes away.

I feel so grateful to live in this special place, and it brings me joy to share this hidden corner of Oregon with others who are seeking quiet beauty, inspiration, and perhaps a little reconnection with themselves.
