Upon arriving at your home up on the hill with a beautiful view we were so excited.We thought we found a Gem in Paradise.It is a very large home which needs alot of maintenance, repairs and updates.The furniture is mismatched and old.Kitchen cabinets are very worn and doors don't close properly.Four slice toaster doesn't work and was not replaced when asked.Bedrooms were large with worn out sheets; my pillowcase was torn.Towels are worn out and need to be replaced. Towels are in one closet and we couldn't find them.Bathrooms are dated from the 80s.A large roach was in one of the bedrooms and took a great effort to remove.Unfortunately, a large suite next to the pool smells musty and moldy and couldn't be lived in even with air conditioning on and screens opened.Dirty underwear were left in the closet and a pair of black thongs which shows it was not cleaned.Hot tub didn't work properly despite attempts by the handyman to fix it; he said he had to send for a part.Gas grill needed cleaning like it has never been cleaned.Outdoor shower sprays all over and needs a new shower head.Worst of all we didn't expect you yelling at us and threatening us with calling the police and evicting us for miscommunication with an exact guest. Hawaiians say Aloha and Makalo and are welcoming and we really didn't feel welcomed.You have a beautiful location but you need to paint and thoroughly clean and update your home.

We held a family reunion here for a week in July/August 2025. There were 14 of us, 10 adults and 4 young children, from Washington State, California, Minnesota, Indiana, Massachusetts and Maryland. Alii Makai House fit our needs perfectly-- the separated areas provided bed configurations for the families and single adults as well. Of course, the pool was the main attraction for times when we were not being tourists on the Big Island. The kitchen and house were well-equipped, ex. ample towels, separate laundry room although the dryer overheated as we tried to clean the towels before we left. It would have been helpful to have the second dryer operational. All in all, we had a wonderful experience here!

Property is just as described with comfortable rooms for our party of 12 including a crib and high chair for the baby. Pool and outdoor eating area absolutely gorgeous with amazing views of the ocean. Kitchen had everything you could think of. Host was very responsive to our requests.

Good House for Large Family Gathering

15 of our family members stayed at this location. The 7 bedrooms are divided among three separate buildings. The house worked well for our range of ages and the kids loved the pool, however it was cold. I guess pools aren't heated in Hawaii. The kitchen could use a good reorganization to get rid of some of the old spices and a few of the appliances that did not work. Also the beach/pool toy box needs to be dinged out. It was difficult to get all the bedding washed (12 sheet sets) and dried by the 11:00 a.m. checkout. Otherwise we had a fabulous time and would recommend this house to other large groups.

Beautiful view

The view was beautiful and the house was clean. The neighborhood was also very nice. We had 14 people and more than enough room. The layout is great because you never felt crowded, we all had our own quiet space to retreat to. The only suggestion I would make is to go through the kitchen and reorganize, and on the outside of the property and in garage there were broken items like chairs and umbrellas etc that are a little bit of an eye sore. Why not throw them away. I wouldn’t call that a negative just a suggestion. Again the house is very nice and fit our needs perfectly

A perfect holiday home for a large family

We had a wonderful stay with our large family in this beautiful home. We were 15 people (11 adults and 5 children ages 3-12) and everyone had plenty of space. The large table on the lanai was perfect for evening meals together. The kitchen had every amenity and appliance you could want. The pool was large and just right for our family. The location is convenient to beaches, shopping, restaurants, and all of the highlights of the Kona Coast. It's a beautiful home and we greatly enjoyed our stay.

Family Vacation

Overall the vacation was wonderful, Hawaii did not disappoint. The house and how it was listed was accurately represented. Down side was the lack of having trash removal. Trash only being removed once a week when managing a VRBO is a bit crazy. One would think running a VRBO where you have back to back reservations dealing with previous renters trash and unable to have a place for your trash was disappointing. If you live on the island find a way to have trash managed more frequently and partner with trash locations or dumpsters so that your renters are not trying to pack trash on top of trash with a can overflowing. We did have mice as a result that were present along with roaches because that much trash leads to unwanted guests. Also reached out due to a potential left item and had no response even as we offered to pay to have it shipped to our home address. That was disappointing as it was like check out and you are done with no response from property owner.

Great for Large Groups

We had a family group of 21 adults and children. The house was a great size for us. The location was also a big plus. The cleaners were still cleaning when we arrived at 4. Housekeeping came back later that night to bring extra sheets for the hide a bed couch and the futon. An AC unit was not working in one room and Emmy had it replaced the next day. Thank you! When we checked in on Monday the trash was overflowing on the curb - to be fair, trash pick up was Tues so we dragged the cans to the curb. There were 2 extra cans filled with plastic and paper that sat there the entire week. I couldn’t get a response which day was recycling to be put out. The view was stunning. Thanks for the hot tub and grill. This is an older house that does need some repairs - kitchen cabinet shelf had broken, older shower heads that sprayed over the shower glass and outdoor light strands were missing bulbs at kid level. Lots of parking for 4 minivans in the driveway. Loved having extra beach towels. The kitchen area is small for the size of the house. Limits the number working in the kitchen but it was family and we were ok with tight quarters. We ate all meals at home and appreciated the outdoor bar top and seating. The pool was wonderful and great for lively kids!! I would stay here again if traveling with a big group. Thanks

Family Reunion Accommodations

We had 20 family members and there was plenty of room, kitchen was well stocked with cooking and eating supplies, and the pool was amazing. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends and family. The view was gorgeous and the house was kind of secluded with plenty of parking. Management responded to minor concerns quickly. Overall a great experience.

Family reunion

Wonderful pool with lots of pool toys and several pleasant sitting and dining areas. Comfortable living room and great kitchen. Minor maintenance problems were quickly taken care of when we reported them. Some mattresses need to be replaced. Everyone had a great time.

Graduation Getaway

Everything was lovely including fresh, local fruits & champagne. Such an incredible unobstructed view!! Pool & hot tub were excellent! My husband & I enjoyed coffee & rainbows the 2nd morning, such a treat!! Mahalo for having the crib set up for us in the master!! Your entire layout was so easy to keep clean!! Great house but it is not maintained

The house is in a great location. Close to the beach and town. Plenty of parking. The pool is great. The house needs to be updated. The floor in one room is pealing up. There wasn’t enough blankets for all of the listed beds. Decorations are missing. The built in grill is gone and there is a borderline portable grill. The rooms are pretty plain. The air conditioning unit in the back room makes a loud banging noice when it is turned on. You shouldn’t book an early flight home because they require all of the bedding for 24 people to be washed before you go home. This is the same for the towels so you have to start the day before making using the pool on the last night difficult. The outside furniture is falling apart and the pool toys are old and broken. The house holds 24 and the trash can is designed for a family of 4. I had to pay a company 200 dollars to pick up the extra trash. The toilet in the main living area runs and can be hard to flush. Great house, great location but it needs to be managed and maintained better.

Disappointing

This rental was a huge disappointment. We got conflicting messages about the entry code, so had trouble getting in. The king bed we slept in sounded like two balloons rubbing together every time one or the other of us moved. That got funny, eventually. The floors inside the house were filthy, even though the owner required us to not wear shoes in the house. The bottoms of our feet were black, all the time. I had to wash my feet before going to bed each night. Yuk. We could only get one TV to work. There are multiple controllers and devices but no instructions. The bedroom by the pool rarely had hot water. Apparently the hot water there is solar -- who knew? The dryer needed to be restarted again and again or didn't work at all. What's the point of a washer with no dryer? The cockroaches were enormous and ubiquitous at night, making it unpleasant to sit outside in the evening, where the only dining table was to be found. We ate quickly, with our feet in the air. The string of lights around the property were supposed to be off at night (the neighbors complained) but their timers didn't work. We ended up just unplugging them after a testy note from the owner. The "extra" gas bomb was empty. We bought a new one. The grill is on its last legs, but we used it anyway. We were only 6, so there were enough plates and glasses for us, but we ran the dishwasher twice a day. If there are more of you, you'll need to buy more glasses. Caveat emptor.

Great week!!!

Overall, our stay at this property was amazing! My husband and I got married in Hawaii and stayed at this house for 7 nights along with 11 family members and friends. It was very adequate in size for our group of 13. The pool was awesome to have. The pool cleaner didn't bother us, we named him Dave and he was a source of entertainment. The rooms were nice and everything was very clean. Only issues we had was the group that was in the house before us had A LOT of garbage that filled 4 large bin and bags of garbage were even on the drive way. Critters got into it 3 times so we had to pick up someone else's garbage multiple times before the trash company picked it up. There were a few minor things in the house that could use some sprucing up, but nothing that affected our stay. Overall was a very good stay!! I definitely recommend.

Adult TEAM GROUP

Aloha! We all had an amazing stay at your property. The views were killer! The pool was always nice to jump in/out when we wanted to. The hot tub wasnt as hot though? Not sure if it was really working or not. However everything met our expectations and decent amount of room for everyone to sleep. However because we were a bigger group we could fit only 1-2 people per bed. A few people ended up sleeping on the couch/floor to be more comfortable but otherwise all worked out well! Nice big kitchen, outdoor seating to dine with the group and great place to hold a team meeting night before the big event. Mahalo for hosting and hopefully we will be back in the near future. I had been working in Silicon Valley for over 25 years and worked as a software engineer and entrepreneur.
