We loved staying here! We had five adults and it worked out perfectly. I would say it’s the perfect place for families with kids. I’d love to come back and read all the books!!!

Photos don’t do this property justice! We stayed for a wedding in Durango with two families. Terrific home for kids with toys and supplies like playdough and sidewalk chalk. Nicely tucked inside the trees private from most of the neighbors. Great hot tub experience. Nice home and a great place to setup base camp for your stay in the area.

We had such a great stay here with our kids and grandkids! While I love Durango nearby and all it has to offer, everyone just wanted to relax at the cottage, make dinner, play games and sit outside by the fire. The hot tub was a plus too! This place had everything to offer… snacks, plenty of coffee for all of us, so many books and games. Nobody was ever bored.

Great house! Was perfect for our group and exactly as described. The host did a good job of keeping us informed and check-in and out was very easy. Loved seeing the deer every morning and evening. They come right by the house. We would definitely stay there again.

Appreciated the location, the ease of checkin, the hot tub and other amenities. We had some difficulty with trying to use air conditioning units (no central air), dirty sheets on one bed upon arrival, and general maintenance issues around the house. Still had fun, but not our best VRBO stay.

Derek and Brittany were kind enough to let us have our micro-wedding at their property, and it was everything we had hoped for and more. The check in process was seamless and the property was beautiful! The house was beautifully clean and had awesome additions like a highchair, pack and play, and toys for the kiddos that joined us. The house was beautiful and the mugs are a beautiful memento for us to remember our wedding with. The neighbors were so sweet and cheered for us as we said "I do" from their decks (even though the property felt very private)! We wouldn't have changed a thing and would absolutely rebook with them next time we are in Durango.

We rented this house for a back to school hangout and sleepover and it was a huge hit! The house and all the fun decor, books, games, all of it was magical! Everything was definitely clean and they have so many special touches added throughout the house it was like walking through a whimsical museum and the scavenger hunt was a very creative touch! I highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a great space for adults, teens and children. We will definitely rent it again!

This was a very nice place to stay at! We were greeted with snacks and a gift basket waiting for us. The themes were super nice all over and if you love to read and play games there are plenty of games and books! It was so nice waking up to the deer just hanging out in the yard! The master bedroom had an amazing walk in closet and I loved that the water worked really well! If you never been the hosts have amazing recommendations in the book! Close enough to town to get anything you may have forgotten but far enough to have peace and quiet. Really big Kudos to the hosts we will definitely recommend this spot to anyone we know visiting the area Also, if you are in the area check out Vallecitos lake it’s beautiful!

We spent 2 nights of Labor Day weekend with a large group 2 adults and 10 children. Overall, we had a great time and the house is very nice!! The kids absolutely loved all the whimsical decor, the harry potter room and the treasure hunt. The guest book was a delight, and they had so much fun exploring. The kitchen was well stocked and had enough dishes to feed 12 which was awesome. They enjoyed the game room and all the kid friendly extras upstairs. The rental was very clean and well stocked with essentials including dishwasher pods and trash bags. We booked our large group based upon the number it stated it sleeps. Although the actual beds were as listed the additional sleeping spaces were different than described. We made it work however had we had more adults than children there would have been folks sleeping on the floor. We were unable to locate sheets for the additional sleeping spaces. Other than those few items to note this is a great place!

We absolutely loved our stay at the Whimsical House! From the moment we arrived, we were charmed by its cozy, magical atmosphere. The home is incredibly spacious and perfect for large families, with plenty of comfortable beds and room for everyone to relax.One of the standout features was how well-stocked everything was. The kitchen had everything we needed—lots of pans, bakeware, and storage containers—and we especially appreciated the updated Nespresso machine. It made our mornings feel a little extra special.We also loved the hot tub and the daily wildlife sightings, which added such a peaceful, unique touch to our stay. Inside, the house was filled with books for readers of all ages, making it feel even more inviting and thoughtful.One of the most delightful surprises was the scavenger hunt included in the instruction manual—complete with a prize at the end! It truly captured the whimsical spirit of the home and made our experience even more memorable.Every room was filled with charm, wonder, and thoughtful details. This was such a special place to stay, and we will absolutely be back. Highly recommend for families looking for something unique, cozy, and full of personality!

We loved this adorable place. It was spacious and clean and fun. We had a little trouble with the hot tub on the first night, but the host was very quick to respond and made things right immediately. This house is absolutely charming, I wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy the space more.
