Karen’s hideaway is fantastic. Extremely comfortable and decorated with great art. Very serene and quiet, great beds. Well stocked. Short walk to bakery and .5 mi to beach. Fun area. Was truly the respite we needed and very much hope to return.

A wonderful stay, a short walk from the beach. My family and I have stayed here twice and will definitely do so again. I can’t say enough great things about the house and the host!

The property is very attractive, well equipped and well located. Karen was very helpful and we had a great time exploring the area. However, the listing says "On the beach. A rare beachfront property in the area - enjoy direct access to the sand and sea" and includes a photo of stairs to Harbert Beach. The house is an easy 10 minute walk to Harbert Beach but not on the beach. It's an easy drive to nearby small towns, restaurants, things to do.

Absolutely wonderful home in a quiet little neighborhood surrounded by nature. Just a few minutes to Three Oaks, Union Pier and New Buffalo for art, food and shopping. The house was spotless and the beds were also clean and comfortable. Just a short distance to the beach, we went every day during our stay. Karen was a wonderful, attentive host and a real pleasure to meet. We had plenty of room for our adult children and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals at home. Just a wonderful place to get away and relax, we will definately be back!

Plenty of space, plenty of parking, extremely clean and well maintained. Lots of toys, books and games for young kids. Very well stocked with kitchen necessities and tons of beach chairs, towels and toys for use. A one minute walk to the Swedish bakery was the icing on top!

We had a great stay! This is one of the best kitchens with good pans and knives. The beds are comfy. The couches are nice. It’s a wonderful place and the owner is LOVELY

The house is so well tended and there were a number of lovely, homey touches, like all the plants and art on the back patio, front patio, and yard; comfortable furniture, lots of rooms with comfortable beds, and everything you would need in the kitchen. The walk to the beach is 15 minutes or so, but parking down at the beach is super easy. Karen had plenty of beach chairs, beach towels, and umbrellas. She was also very responsive if we had any questions. We will very likely come back again. Love the woods in the Harbert neighborhood with big old trees and lots of wildlife. The house is also so clean. We’ve stayed in a lot of Michigan houses in this area over the years and this by far is the cleanest.

Amazing stay!

The house and yard are beautiful, and it’s obvious that a lot of care and love are put into it. It’s a short walk from the beach, bike trail, and bakery. The host is fantastic and so thoughtful. We had a relaxing long weekend with family and a very comfortable stay. We stay in Harbert and the surrounding area at least once a year, and this is by far our best experience and favorite place!

Wonderful place Easy getting into home, place was immaculate, had a wonderfully stocked kitchen with all necessary things for cooking- even the knives were sharp!Beds are comfy. Lovely spacious area for gathering inside and out. The owner is a kind and gracious host. Beach is convenient walk down the street. Would love to do it again.

Lovely!

We loved our stay here. The property is a close drive to everything fun, but secluded and peaceful on a wooded lot. The home itself is comfortable, clean, and welcoming. Comfy beds, well stocked kitchen, and many thoughtful touches throughout the home. Owners were lovely and easy to work with.

All the comforts of home!

This home was very comfortable!! The beds in every room were very nice so a good night’s sleep was had by all. The husband and wife who own the home were very kind and responsive. They allowed us use several bikes and all their beach equipment. Truly a great stay.

Harbert Retreat is a Treat

This is the second time we've stayed here. Love this house! The beautiful front and rear deck are great for our pup and outdoor family meals. The location to Harbert Road beach, Swedish Bakery, and Cafe Gulistan is very walkable. Quiet neighborhood and nicely furnished home. Our host Karen was very responsive. Overall, loved our stay again!

Lovely spot with everything you need

Lovely home in great location. They have anticipated every need. We came with our son, his wife, and their infant daughter. And our small dog. Everyone was comfortable, happy, easy to care for. A great property for a lovely weekend.

We had a terrific time at the beach house. The owners were kind and very helpful throughout the entire process. The home was comfortable and spacious, and had everything we needed, and then some. Nice proximity to the beach and other attractions in the area.

Perfect Family Get-Away

This property was perfect for meeting up with family for the week. Home is located in a quiet neighborhood but not far from the action around Berrien County or surrounding areas. Harbert Road Beach access was ideal. A short 10 minute walk or 5 minute bike ride (bikes provided by owner was a huge plus). Home has everything you need, updated and super clean. The front and rear deck/patio was perfect space for enjoying the beautiful wooded surroundings. Thank you.

Easy check-in. We were a group of 9 and could have used more plates & silverware, but the dishwasher kept up with our needs! Wi-Fi was good. It was further from the beach than we thought, even after reading all the other reviews. But there was free parking so we could drive everyone and all our beach gear there and park. It was a bit odd that the host lived in the same building. Although she said she lives next door, it was really part of the same building and we could hear other through the wall in the master bedroom.

Beautiful home, beautiful location!

Karen has such a beautiful home here. A perfect location on a wooded street, just a half mile from a gorgeous Lake Michigan beach. Close to everything in SW Michigan. The decor of the home is both beautiful and comfortable. Each bedroom has a subtle theme which I didn’t even realize until after a few days. The decorating is very fun that way.Karen is such a kind and caring host. She was quickly and thoroughly responsive to my questions, and is very close by if any issues arise. I appreciate her policy of allowing dogs, that made things so much easier for me. I would return to stay here in a heartbeat if the opportunity arises again. It’s really a very nice home.

Exceptional Vacation Home!!

This was without a doubt the cleanest and nicest vacation home we have ever stayed in. The home itself is spacious bright and beautiful. All the furniture beds and appliances were like new and very high-quality. The location is absolutely fantastic..in a quiet peaceful wooded setting. You can't see another neighbors house out the window. There's a lot of wildlife in the area which our family enjoyed seeing. There's a small public end of the road beach about a 10 minute walk down the street which was convenient. There are a couple of really nice larger beaches in the area that you can drive to in just a few minutes. The owners graciously provided parking passes as well as bikes and beach towels and chairs. You can drive to new Buffalo in 10 minutes and St. Joseph's in about 20 to 25 minutes. Jim and Karen were so friendly and gracious and easy to work with. Our family highly recommends this home and we definitely hope to stay here again when we return to the area.

Everything was absolutely amazing!! We have been coming to Michigan for 23 years and this was the best house ever!! Karen was so attentive and the details were perfection! She really thought of everything needed! My favorite was sitting in the back yard having tea with all the plants! Close to the beach, quiet neighborhood, and close to all our favorite restaurants and shops. My nephew said, "All the other houses were just rental houses, this felt like home. We will definitely be returning next year! Thank you for the best week ever!!!

Jim and Karen have enjoyed living in Harbor Country for many years. Jim is an Oak Park Illinois transplant since 1993. When living in the Chicago area got to be a little too noisy and crowded, Jim headed off to his own green acres in Michigan bringing his few paintbrush's with him to make a living. Karen however had her start in Michigan City , but has lived in this area since 1970 making New Buffalo her home for many years and finally moving on to Sawyer. Jim and Karen have thoroughly enjoyed hosting some lovely guests and look forward to doing the same in the foreseeable future.
