The owner met us at the property to check us in and show us around. The property was clean and was ready for us. Everything about it was exactly as shown in the listing.
Once we got to know our way around, the location was extremely convenient. It was just a few blocks from the very nice central train station, a hub for not only trains but city buses, tour buses, and taxis. The immediate area around the train station offered every type of restaurant and shop you might need. The station and the plaza surrounding it were ultra-modern and well-policed.
The neighborhood that the unit is in left a lot to be desired. I definitely wouldn't go out at night, and was very uncomfortable walking to the taxi stand at 5:30 a.m. (taxis wouldn't come to the unit that early). It was uncomfortable, but not necessarily unsafe, walking down to the central station area during the day. The station area is VERY nice so you really just have a couple of questionable blocks.
The owner can't control the neighborhood, of course, and did everything else possible to make it a comfortable stay. Just do your homework, be aware of pickpocket risk, know what to watch out for, stay in after dark, and you'll have a wonderful stay as we did. Oh, yes - don't make typical traveler mistakes - carry some Euros and if you're from North America, understand the difference between 220 volts and 110 volts and what it takes to use your electric equipment in Europe.
