Summary:

Secluded and peaceful refurbished stone holiday house in an ancient quarry that supplied white stone to Venice and Rome. Sleeps 12 on two floors, ideal for two families, with 2,500 m2 private garden, 5×7 m heated pool, and ample parking.



The Space:

Escape to a private oasis on a 2,500 m² estate hidden in an ancient Roman quarry. This beautifully restored stone home sleeps up to 12 guests across two self-contained apartments and a charming two-level annexe — perfect for families, friends, or multi-generational stays. Swim in the 56 m² heated stone pool, relax in the shady furnished souk, or enjoy friendly games of football, badminton, table tennis, and darts in the expansive garden. Share long summer evenings on the spacious poolside patio, complete with multiple BBQ options for al fresco dining. Inside, enjoy air-conditioned comfort, Wi-Fi, and well-equipped kitchens. The ground floor offers a king bedroom, double bedroom, bathroom, and cosy lounge with smart TV, books, and games. Upstairs features a triple bedroom, bathroom, master suite with king bed, nook with sofa bed, library, twin/double room, and bathroom. The separate annexe boasts a four-poster bed, tea bar, private garden, and roofed terrace. Ample private parking included.



The Neighborhood:

Pula, the largest city on the Istrian peninsula, has been a cultural hub since Roman times, with spectacular landmarks including the world-famous Arena amphitheatre, the Temple of Augustus, the Forum, and the Triumphal Arch of the Sergi. This unique retreat was created from ancient farm buildings set in a hollow formed by Roman quarrying over 2,000 years ago, where prized white stone was once mined to build Venice, the Colosseum in Rome, and Pula’s own amphitheatre. Dream Vacation

We've had the pleasure to stay in Chris' House in 2018 already, and it was a blast to spend our vacation there again. The villa is beautiful, the outside garden spacious and lush. It looks even better than in the pictures.

Genial aber auch irgendwie wieder nicht

Unsere Familie - 6 Erwachsene und 5 Kinder - war von 31.08. - 07.09.2024 im Cave Romana. Die wildromantische Liegenschaft war leicht zu finden und mit Josip war der Check-Inn unkompliziert, freundlich und schnell. Die Außenanlagen mit großzügigem und kinderfreundlichem Pool sind authentisch und bieten auch für Hobbysportler, Kinder und Tiere ausreichend Möglichkeiten. Die vielbeschriebene Mückenplage konnten wir zu unserer Urlaubszeit nicht bestätigen. Einziger Wermutstropfen war die in die Jahre gekommenen Unterkunft. In diesem Bezug gibt es Preis-/Leistungstechnisch deutlich bessere Angebote. Erwähnenswert - besonders bei Reisen mit Familie/Kindern - sind viele Tierchen (Skorpione, Tausendfüßer, etc...) in den Räumlichkeiten, Insektennetz über dem Bett ist in jedem Fall zu empfehlen. Fazit: Viel Potenzial, nicht ganz genutzt!

Sehr großzügiges Gelände mit vielen Möglichkeiten. Auch für Kinder gibt es sehr viel zu entdecken. Schöner Pool. Für das Baden im Mittelmeer bietet sich Centinera Beach in Banjole an. Einziger Nachteil: sehr viele Moskitos. Unbedingt Mückenschutz einpacken!

Wunderschöner Ort

Wir waren als Familie, 4 Gescheister mit Partnerinnen und Kindern hier. Das Haus ist geräumig und die Anlage vielseitig und weitläufig,, der Pool traumhaft. Wir haben und rundum wohl gefühlt. Josip hat uns gut versorgt und war stets ansprechbar. Alle waren traurig bei der Abreise und wären gerne länger geblieben. DANKE für diesen wunderbaren Urlaub.

Steinbruch meets modernes Design

Mit viel Sinn für geschmackvolle Details ausgestattet, findet jeder einer größeren Gruppe zu jeder Tageszeit seinen persönlichen Lieblingsplatz mit Sonne oder Schatten. Sehr ruhig und abgeschieden, vorbei kommen Hahn mit Hennen, die Katze, mal der Hund, die Kröte quert den Grillplatz...Innen alles was man braucht, rustikalen Mauern treffen auf moderne Innenausstattung. Man möchte nicht wieder abreisen. Und weil man muss, denkt man ans Wiederkommen.

Ein sehr schönes Anwesen. Viele Freizeitaktivitäten direkt am Haus gegeben, angefangen vom schönen Pool, über ein Badmintonnetz, einer Tischtennisplatte und einer Dartscheibe. Da kommt auch bei Kindern keine Langeweile auf. Auch die Terrassen für die ältere Generation sind super. Für uns Selbstversorger ist die gute Ausstattung der Küche bzw. des Grills ein Highlight gewesen. Da wir mit unseren Hunden da waren, fehlte mir ein Staubsauger zur schnellen Reinigung. Mit Besen, Handfeger und Müllschaufel ist es eher mühselig...

Entspannungsurlaub pur für größere Gruppen oder Großfamilien

Wir (7 Erwachsene, ein Kind und ein Humd) haben unseren Urlaub hier sehr genossen. Das Haus liegt etwa 5km von Pula an einem Waldrand wunderschön in der Natur gelegen. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten, Strände, Apotheke und das Krankenhaus sind nur wenige Autominuten entfernt. Der angelegte Garten, über mehrere Ebenen und die Pool-Area sind wirklich ein Traum. Die Zimmer sind schön und funktional eingerichtet, mit allem was man braucht. Die Ausstattung der Küche war top. Generell wurde hier mit sehr viel Liebe, Kreativität und Handarbeit gearbeitet. (die Do-it-yourself-Lösungen sind teilweise echt phänomenal :-) Der Kontakt mit Chris verlief super. Er war immer erreichbar. Josip (Kontakt vor Ort) hat seinen Job ebenfalls perfekt gemacht. Als wir ihn gebraucht haben war er sofort zur Stelle und konnte alle kleinen Problemchen und Wünsche sofort lösen/umsetzen. Gerne wieder :-)

Haus auch für grosse Familie

Haus für grosse Familie mit gepflegtem, terrassiertem Garten und großzügiger Poolanlage. Beste Betreuung durch Josip. Da Haus am Hang gelegen, viele Stufen. Lage sehr gut zum Flughafen oder auch als Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten an Küste und ins Hinterland.

Absolute Erholung

Die Unterkunft ist sehr schön. Der Außenbereich ist einfach ein Traum. Es ist sehr ruhig und der Erholungswert ist einfach top. Der Hausmeister Josip ist sehr nett und steht bei Fragen immer zur Verfügung. Der Strand und Pula sind sehr schnell erreichbar. Wir werden diese Unterkunft sicher wieder buchen. Einfach empfehlenswert.

Fabulous villa, full of character

If you’ve never been to Croatia before, you should go and you should definitely consider Cave Romana. Set in a secluded location but only 20 minute drive from Pula airport and 10 minutes in to Pula. The accommodation is quirky, full of character and flexible for large groups. Beware though that whilst there are 2 double bedrooms on the ground floor, you need to walk through one to get to the other. It worked fine for us but it’s not clear in the info that you see on line. The ‘man on the ground’ Josip, met us on day 1 and gave us a very good tour and intro to the villa. Everything you need is provided. The accommodation is showing some signs of wear but nothing that detracted from the great experience. The pool and gardens are glorious and the photographs don’t do it justice. Very sheltered by trees but getting sunshine on the pool and gardens all day. Many secluded areas if you want some quit time away from everyone else. As an added bonus, we were treated to the sight of bats flying overhead at dusk each night, presumably feeding on insects. On the insect front. Bring plenty of mosquito repellent and bite cream! A great holiday in a great villa. Would definitely consider going back.

Charming, rustic,functional home close to everything in Pula. Recommend for families and couples.

Had a wonderful visit. The outside grounds are wonderful for spring & summer fun. Nice pool. Charming house with great history. The house divides into 3 separate apartments which is great for families with adult children or for 3 or 4 couples. Very functional kitchen and common living area for big meals. Great hot showers but it is an old house so don’t bring every electronic gadget. Instead unplug and relax. Close to Centro and Roman ruins. Big grocery stores just minutes from the house yet very secluded and private. We were quite comfortable. The house caretaker is very helpful and is nearby if you have an issue. Highly recommend Cave Romano for visiting Pula and the nearby islands and beaches.

Beautiful Holiday in stunning surroundings

This was a retirement celebratory holiday for my husband and me, to have a week with our 3 kids, their partners and children, and it could'nt have worked out better. So much space for everybody to have time all together, or take off and have time to themselves as well. Lovely areas to enjoy the sun, if that is what you love, or play table tennis, Boules, badminton, or enjoy the truly lovely pool, if you wanted to be more active. Lovely nearby beach, if you take the track through the woods on road down to the Marina, Or Pula was a lovely town to visit, especially in the evening, when all the cranes are lit up. Sounds of opera coming over the amphitheatre walls was out of this world. Take protection against mosquito's, because they do like to join in the fun, especially from about 1600-2000. Jossip , who helps organize things out there was really kind, helpful and fun. Some memories have been made for ever, and we would love to go back, given half a chance

Schönes Steinhaus, freundlicher Gastgeber, herrlicher Pool, tolle Küchenausstattung,Josip der Mann der sich um die Gäste kümmert ist immer erreichbar und sehr hilfsbereit. Wer Ruhe und Erholung sucht und kein Luxus erwartet wird sich wie wir hier, sehr wohl fühlen. Unangenehm waren nur die Moskitos im Aussenbereich.

very nice place!

Stayed 1week end of May. Big garden, nice pool and good for kids (we, our party had 6 kids, aged 5-8), lots of places to sit everywhere around the house. Really, can not complain about anything basically. Just be prepare to share the whole place with a bit of nature (for example mosquitoes -> but lots of anti mosquitoes tools provided!). Nearest beach is 3min by car, easy drive. Pula is 10min. Big SPAR is less than 10min by car. Basically everything is not far away. You can also run around the place, lots of paths. Nice clean bathrooms. Man who's taking care of the place was very helpful. The place looks exactly like on the pictures. Would go there again if going to Pula area again!

Marvellous!

We, a group of ten young people from Germany, stayed at Cave Romana for the second time and it was just as beautiful and refreshing a holiday as last year! There can't be said too much about how great Josip is: friendly, helpful, funny and understanding. The house is very clean, everything works perfectly and exactly as described and there isn't really anything you would miss. Although it has an old-times-charm, all the technology is there. The contact with the owner, Chris Ridley, is ever so pleasant and easy. We had (again) aber wonderful experience and want to come back again! - Jessica

Lovely spot for a family holiday

Nice and we'll equipped house with plenty of space indoors as well as outdoors. We especially enjoyed the pool area with lots of possibilities for sun and shade. Beware: We were bitten by mosquitoes especially in the evenings so remember to bring repellent.

Beautiful and peaceful setting

Cave Roman is set in a beautiful, peaceful and secluded spot. The house is lovely and pool is gorgeous. There are lots of hidden corners to hide away with a book and a glass of wine. Lovely.

Secluded villa with amazing outdoor space

We were a group of ten and we had an amazing time at Chris' place. The villa is in perfect location close enough to Pula and walk able to the beach. The roman quarry is also round the corner which was fascinating. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking to have a relaxing holiday, the villa has everything you need; swimming pool, table tennis and a dance floor! The garden has also been cleverly designed so that you are able catch sunlight at different parts of the day. I will no doubt be looking to stay at Cave Romana again at some point in the future.

Wonderful week in an amazing villa

A wonderful property, very spacious and air con very handy. Enough space for everyone. We were a group of ten friends from university that went and we all really enjoyed the property. The kitchen was very well equipped which was handy and close to a local shop as well which was handy as we only used bikes to travel around. Very easy to cycle into town though the hill on the return to the villa can be a bit tiring but overall, very easy to travel to and from the city on bikes. Great seating area outside for both dinner and to chill around the pool. The sound systems are an excellent addition for playing music in the background. Table tennis table was an added bonus! The manager was very helpful at showing us about and helping us with hints and tips. The owner too was very good at keeping us informed about the process of our bookings etc. The forest at the back of the property is great to explore and there are lots of nice, small villages around with nice food as well. Though there are no street lights on the road return should you would need a taxi. Would happily return again!

Friendly and spacious

My family had a wonderful time staying at Cave Romana, the grounds were extensive, giving space for every one and always some where to find the sun or shade as you wish. The house and interior is rustic in character, comfortable, quiet and practical giving good kitchen space and utensils for those who wish to cook for themselves and enjoy buying local produce. I would happily return next year.
