The property is situated in a quiet rural village in Poitou-Charente, one of the sunniest regions in France. There are four accommodation cottages, with a large dining room and an outdoor covered eating area with barbecue, and a pool (heated by air pump heater), games room and outside play areas:

ROSE (sleeps 6) - Ground floor: living room, entrance/dining room, kitchen, 1 bedroom (double bed), shower room with toilet. Upstairs: 2 bedrooms (both with 2 single beds), shower room with toilet

LAVENDER (sleeps 7) - Ground floor: living room, dining room, kitchen, 1 bedroom (bunk bed for 2 people), shower room with toilet Upstairs: 1 bedroom (double bed), 1 bedroom (3 single beds)

DAHLIA (sleeps 4) - Ground floor: living room, kitchen/diner Upstairs: 1 bedroom (double bed), 1 bedroom (2 single beds), bathroom with shower and toilet

OLIVE (sleeps 2) - Ground floor: living room, 1 bedroom (double bed), kitchen/diner, shower room with toilet

The cottages are located in a gated property with fenced in swimming pool. The property is registered with the French Chamber of Commerce and the Mairie in Brettes as a holiday letting business and the cottages are regulated by the regional tourist board, Charente Tourisme. The owner also lives (separately) on the property.

Super séjour entre amis

Nous avons passé un très bon séjour entre amis. Mark est un hôte très agréable, à l écoute et discret. Nous avons apprécié de pouvoir séjourner dans des gîtes indépendants. Les espaces extérieurs laissent une grande liberté aux petits comme aux grands.

Séjour en famille

Très bon séjour en famille , lieu parfait pour passer de bons moments de retrouvailles de tous âges. Mark est très discret et attentionné. Les gîtes sont très propres et fonctionnels. Le fait que ce soit plusieurs gîtes est très pratique pour que chaque famille ait aussi ses moments de tranquillité. La piscine et la salle de jeux ont été bien appréciés !

Formidable!

Nous avons passé 4 jours entre amis avec nos grands enfants (entre 25 et 30 ans!), et tout le monde est ravi. L'endroit est idéal pour profiter du bon temps, de la piscine et de son espace, tout en ayant la possibilité d'une certaine indépendance, grâce aux 4 gites. Et il n'y a pas un bruit! C'est vraiment un chouette endroit, et notre hôte Mark toujours disponible si besoin, d'une grande gentillesse. A recommander sans hésiter.

Très bel endroit pour vacances en famille

Nous sommes venus en famille (de 7 mois à 70 ans) et avons beaucoup apprécié ce long week end sur place. Nous avons profité des différents gîtes et de la piscine chauffée. Tout est étudié pour vous simplifier la vie pendant le week-end (barbecue, grande table, tennis de table, salle de jeu et ), . L’accueil et la disponibilité de Mark sont également un atout. Nous y retournerons avec plaisir!

Un week-end très agréable

Nous avons passé un week-end très agréable chez Mark. Les logements sont bien équipés et très propres. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié la piscine et le magnifique jardin fleuri.

Wonderful! Fantastic, relaxed, family holiday

We were three generations of one family (19 in total) sharing the whole site. The pool was brilliant, enjoyed every day, particularly by the kids. The space and freedom available to the children really made this holiday, lots to do outside all day and games/activities in the games room for fun during the hottest parts of the day. The houses were really comfortable and had everything you could need. Mark and Sarah were fantastic hosts, there when you needed them for advice about the area while still managing to let us have complete privacy. We were so sad to leave, two weeks wasn’t long enough! We are already planning next year’s visit.

Merveilleux week-end entre amis

Dans un cadre magnifique et très bien entretenue par les propriétaires, nous avons passé un superbe week-end entre amis. Nous avions réservé l'ensemble des quatres gîtes pour 20 personnes , qui se sont révélés être , grand , confortable , bien équipés et très propre. Les propriétaires nous ont très bien accueilli et on fait leur maximum pour que nous passions le meilleur week-end possible. La piscine , la salle de jeu , les grands extérieurs , le coin barbecue sont autant d'atouts pour un week-end réussi entre amis ou en famille.

A great place for a family holiday

We have just returned from a wonderful family holiday spent at Gites de Brettes. The gites were perfect for our family group of 18, which spanned 3 generations, ages ranging from 11 months to 67years! The gites were roomy giving everyone space for themselves but also places to get together. The outdoor dining for 18 was wonderful by the BBQ The outdoor pool was lovely and enjoyed by all, with sun loungers and a grassy area. It was fenced in and safe and cleaned every day by Mark. The children loved the pool and the games room and there was space on the big field for rounders. The whole site was safe for the children as it was gated and they really enjoyed this freedom. Mark and Sarah were helpful in every possible way and have worked hard to create a relaxing and delightful place to stay. The lavender and roses were abundant and everywhere was clean and well maintained. We didn't venture out much the first week apart from to the supermarket as everyone was so relaxed and enjoying the sunshine and the pool. The second week we went kayaking near Ruffec and also some had a trip to Cognac and local villages and markets. We will definitely be returning!

We spent a very nice time at Gites de Brettes.

Even with 17 people, you still find some privacy at the Gites de Brettes. Lovely place, nice swimming pool, and very nice hosts. Marc and Sarah will help you whenever you have a question. Very clean place and ideal for a group as ours, 17 people spending two weeks together in this lovely place. Thanks Marc and Sarah

Excellent family-friendly cottages.

We are a group of four families - in total 8 adults, 4 two year olds and 2 newborns. Two families shared Rose cottage and the other two families had Lavender and Dahlia. We used Rose cottage for communal cooking and dining - and there was plenty of kitchen equipment, tables and chairs for this. Sarah kindly provided plenty of baby equipment, including cots, bedding, high-chairs, potties. Communication with Sarah was really quick and easy via email prior to arrival. The properties were extremely clean and the grounds really well maintained. Set in a beautiful part of rural France. We made good use of the pool every day, which was warm enough for the toddlers to swim in. The toddlers also enjoyed visiting the horses and chickens. The hosts Sarah and Mark made us feel welcome. I would highly recommend this property.

Lovely, peaceful location for large family gathering.

We had a great family holiday at Gites de Brettes. Our family group consisted of 3 generations with 7 adults and 10 children(ranging from 5-13 yrs)! Sarah and Mark were very welcoming and available if needed. All the Gites were clean and comfortable and we were able to all eat together at the long table provided. The swimming pool was great and the children made good use of it as well as the games room. Villefagnan has some nice little shops and boulangerie etc, supermarkets in Ruffec. The Gites are in a peaceful location and we enjoyed walks and runs from the properties! We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wished that we could have stayed for another week. Thank you Sarah and Mark.

totally brilliant, wonderful place to stay!

Wow, just, wow!! One of the best holidays we have ever had. 23 of us travelled to this wonderful place and it really surpassed all our expectations. The photos do not do it justice. The four gites are perfect, the pool wonderful and the games room and outside dining area just made our holiday. Age ranges for us was between 3 and 85 with my 11 year old disabled son, who is very small and is not able to walk far. Every single person in our large group had a brilliant time. The owners are lovely and friendly and the layout of the gites, pool, games room and playing field made us feel like we were in paradise. The sun shone and we all had such a chilled, relaxing, holiday. Evenings were spent eating and drinking outside the games room, and the days were as lazy or busy as we wanted. Some of our group went touring around the beautiful towns and others read and soaked up the wonderful French sun. We are all so sad we are home! Can not recommend this place enough. The accommodation was clean and tidy, well maintained (pool cleaned daily!) Washing facilities on site and such lovely owners who made you feel nothing was too much trouble. Only downside was we had to come home!

Beautiful gites, fantastic holiday!

As a large group of 20, we have just returned from a fantastic holiday staying at Gites de Brettes! Mark and Sarah were the most welcoming and helpful hosts and were always available to answer any questions and offer tips on where to go and visit! The gites themselves were very quaint and extremely clean and tidy and really helped to make our holiday! This accommodation is perfect for a large group like us, as well as smaller individual groups. Each gite has its own outside area as well as there being areas where all 20 of us could get together and more importantly, sit and eat and drink together! The pool area was fantastic for the children and also for the ‘bigger kids’ amongst our group! There are sun loungers available which the adults took full advantage of on sunny days! The area of Brettes and the surrounding areas are very quiet and rural. The local supermarket is about 10 minutes drive away in the town of Ruffec. The supermarket is great and has everything you could need. There is also a pharmacy in the same location, should you need anything from there. As a group we visited the Monkey Sanctuary (about 40 minutes away) Poitiers (about 1hr away) Ruffec (10 minutes away) and the river beach (5 minutes away) all were very enjoyable and worth a visit if you have time. Just to make you aware, most places close on a Monday and many shops, pubs and restaurants close in the afternoon and re-open around 2-3pm, so don’t plan a shopping trip around those times, like we did! I would highly recommend this location and accommodation for all family holidays! We had the best time and will most certainly be returning! Thank you Mark and Sarah :)

A great place to stay

Like many others, we were slightly apprehensive about booking direct with Gite owners rather than through a "recognised" booking agent, but our concerns soon proved to be totally unfounded. As soon as we booked Sarah and Mark were answering all our questions via email - location, pool, lay-out, local attractions, how to get there etc. No question was too silly. We were a family group and the lay-out was perfect for our family holiday - parents in the one bed house The Forge, my husband, 2 kids (8 & 6) and me in The Stables, in-laws and their 4 kids (20, 18, 14, 12) in Lavender and the brothers-in-law x 3 plus partners in the main house (Lily). This meant we all had our own (very precious) space but could still socialise whenever. The pool is, quite literally, the cleanest pool we have ever used. Mark is out there every morning before anyone else is up, making sure it is perfect. The place is lovely and clean. Every house was useable in its own right, and we cooked for 17 in each kitchen apart from the little house. The grounds were great for family rounders and the kids loved the pool table and table tennis. E Leclerc supermarket in Ruffec is 10 minute drive and stocks everything (my husband was in desperate need of a mini 15A fuse for the car.....they had it). We tended to cook each evening (including a number of BBQs) rather than eat out - much more fun. We do the big family thing every two years, and would not hesitate in booking again. Gites de Brettes is a great place to base yourselves with many places to visit in the surrounding area. Mark and Sarah are such great hosts. Never imposing but always there when you wanted to ask something or needed a new bulb, etc. Handy hint - the kayaking/canoeing at Jarnac is so much better than Taize Aize.

Excellent family friendly accommodation!

We've just returned from a fabulous holiday at the Lily Cottage. The gite was very clean and had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. We were staying as a group of 17 people, using three of the gites. Each of the gites were very spacious and easily accommodated us all. There is an outside area available to enable large groups to eat together, and on a couple of days of cooler weather, Lily Cottage was large enough to fit 17 people around the tables. Brettes is a very tranquil and peaceful little village. Ruffec has several supermarkets and usual town facilites which is about 10-15 minutes drive away. Mark and Sarah are the perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and as they were British, there were no language barriers when we asked for their assistance and recommendations for restaurants, pharmacies and days out. The grounds and the swimming pool are kept in fantastic order, and we used the pool and the table tennis facilities daily. The whole of the property is gated which means that younger children can roam safely, and the pool has a child-proof lock to avoid accidents, all of which allow you to relax even more. I would not hesitate to recommend this accommodation to larger groups, or those using one gite, we came home completely relaxed and longing to return!

Group Booking

We have just returned from a fantastic holiday with friends - four families sharing 3 gites - Lavender, Lily & The Stables. Mark & Sarah are really friendly & accommodating hosts - booking activities & a meal out – always on hand to answer any questions. As there were 16 of us this meant that any potential stress was avoided & we could relax & enjoy our holiday. The gites are in a rural & picturesque area. We spent a lot of time at the pool & enjoying the games facilities. The weather was a little changeable, but on the whole very warm. The children enjoyed feeding the chickens, teenagers hooking up on the WiFi (although this was not available throughout the properties) and the adults enjoyed their evening glass of wine (or two). The area was safe & secluded. Overall a peaceful & relaxing holiday, enjoyed by all.

Wonderful Holiday

We have had the most wonderful holiday here. As a group of four families we were looking for somewhere that could accommodate us all and provide lots of space for the children to play. The children whose ages ranged between 4-15 loved the swimming pool and the games room. The gites are all fully equipped and located within a short drive to the shops. I don't think we could have picked a better place for our holiday. The owners, Sarah and Mark were very welcoming and were on hand if we needed anything. Overall a fantastic holiday, only wish we had booked to stay longer.
