Fine period home on country estate, Lyme Regis

Situated on the beautiful Rousdon Estate, just a few miles from Lyme Regis, the Stable Courtyard offers a spacious, family friendly home for the perfect West Country holiday. The Estate was built in the 1870s for the Peake family in the Arts and Crafts style, and is now an exclusive development of individual dwellings in 160 acres of leafy private grounds.
The estate offers access to its own private beach and also access to the famous Undercliff and coast path into Lyme Regis.
The space
This 3 bedroomed property forms part of the former stable yard quadrangle which now has a central fountain and flower bed. The property had many period features and has been sympathetically styled in keeping with its Victorian heritage.

The spacious main living room has an original fireplace, 3 comfortable sofas and a large table and chairs for dining.

The airy kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher, washer dryer, microwave, oven, hob, fridge freezer, and cooking equipment. It has an additional dining area.

Upstairs the main bedroom has a double bed and en suite shower room with lovely views over the estate.

The pretty twin room with an original tiled fire place has plenty of storage space and a cot.
The pretty third bedroom has a single bed and look across the estate.

The main bathroom has a bath with shower.

Although the Stable Courtyard does not have its own garden this is more than made up for by the extensive private estate grounds. There are many private footpaths and tracks which are only useable by estate residents and guests, and for the more adventurous the private beach at Charlton Bay can be reached on foot.
Guest access
Rousdon Estate is on the A3052. From Lyme Regis head west. Rousdon is the first village you come to. On the left you will see the impressive gates of the estate. Turn into the grounds and follow the road towards the main house. At the end of the road turn right and then left into the car parking area. Ideally park in the left hand car park. Take the path in the corner towards clock tower. Walk under the clock tower and No8 Stable Courtyard is the first property on the right


PLEASE NOTE: do not follow the satnav to Dowlands. There is no access to the estate from there.

Very nicely presented property in a very beautiful and quiet location. Convenient parking, very nice modern bathroom and shower room and elegant living room.The host was quick to respond to all communication.

We had a wonderful stay at Rosemary’s property in Lyme Regis. The estate grounds are beautiful and very well kept, with charming historic architecture, lovely greenery, and peaceful walks with glimpses of the sea. The property was exactly as described, the amenities were all as listed, and parking was easy and convenient. Rosemary was communicative throughout and responded quickly to any questions. Overall, a very enjoyable stay and we would happily recommend it to others.

Our host was very helpful both before and during our stay. The accommodation was very clean and in excellent condition which is not always the case where pets are allowed. The location was superb and although there was no private outdoor space, there was open access to most of the estate. A peaceful and beautiful spot.

Fully equipped property with everything and all the little extras you’d need. Comfortable beds and very peaceful location. Private beach is worth a visit and lots of lovely walks around.

Great stay,

Could not fault or stay, we stayed over the new year period. It’s a great location only a short drive from the centre of Lyme Regis, but also offers picturesque grounds, enabling you to take advantage of done great walks. Would highly recommend.

Hidden Gem

This property was perfect for our family of 3. The hosts are accommodating and check in with you a day into the stay to make sure that you have what you need and are willing to assist in anyway they can. The property is stunning and Lyme Regis is only a 5 minute drive away for a beach day. We will definitely be staying again when we are back in the area.

Lovely house in idyllic location

We had a lovely week at Rousdon! The estate is very picturesque and peaceful, with some lovely walks. The house is in the old stable courtyard, and had everything we needed and was very comfortable. We found it very conveniently located for Lyme Regis, and the wider Jurassic coast. We would very much recommend it!Note: as of April 2025 the private beach is inaccessible, but you can still walk down to join the coastal path,

Great location for a family holiday in Devon/for visiting western Dorset. We had a great stay, plenty of space and the kitchen had everything we needed for our group of 5. Bathrooms were nice and modern and clean. We made it down to the estate's private beach access which has a lovely view- a lot of maintenance has gone on recently to keep the path open. A nicely different place to stay with plenty of parking.

We have lived close to Rousdon in the village of Musbury for 30 years and absolutely love living here. Its such a beautiful, peaceful part of the world. We both have creative jobs: Noel is a Landscaper and I am a potter and this wonderful environment influences both our works.
We have two sons who both went to school in Lyme Regis and an elderly Jack Russell called Mouser.
We really enjoy meeting our guests but also take a hands off approach to hosting. Just let us know if you need us and if you would like to visit the pottery give me a call.

The Rousdon Estate is a unique place and we fell in love with the location even before seeing the house. Even now I still get goose bumps as I go up the drive and see the copper beech trees shimmering in the sunlight as the main house comes into view.
Noel's father went to school here, when All Hallows School were housed on the estate and it has been wonderful to hear about his antics as a young boy and imagining what it would have been like in the 1940s.
The house has lovely high ceilings and large rooms with a period feel.

8 Stable Courtyard offers a spacious, comfortable location from which to explore the Jurassic Coast. With its well equipped kitchen, comfortable living area and 3 bedrooms there is plenty of room for families and couples.
We have a cot and toys for young children, as well as games and books for cosy wet days.
Dogs are welcome and with all the grounds of the Estate to explore they will have a great time.

Situated a short drive ( or an easy bus ride) from Lyme Regis you can enjoy all the wonderful facilities that Lyme provides but get away from the crowds to the peace and tranquility of the estate when you need to relax.
The Estate, with its beautiful historic buildings, has numerous footpaths and tracks, is a great place for bird watching ( I have recently spotted Nuthatch, trees creeper, wood peckers to name a few) and walking.
The more adventurous can take the track down onto the famous Undercliff where you can pick up the South West Coast path towards Lyme or Seaton, or continue down to Rousdon Estates' own private beach at Charlton Bay, with its the crystal clear waters. You may find you are the only people there!
