The cottage was well appointed and cared for. As advertised, it is located on the grounds of a winery. The winery and restaurant are really awesome! Good food and a good time! The grounds are gorgeous. Peaceful and serene. Mostly. The cottage is located between the farm's chicken coop/run and a small pond that is frequented by the ducks and geese that roam the property. The chickens were surprisingly quiet. The geese, not so much, but the noise was tolerable. Unfortunately, the geese love to hang out in the roadway next to the cottage and the parking area for the cottage. They don't just wander through those areas on the way to somewhere else. They HANG OUT there. Goose droppings everywhere, but again, not a big deal. Unfortunately, the alpha gander is, let's just say, aggressive. We were literally attacked by this bird on three occasions just trying to walk to and from our car. I know that he was just trying to protect his territory/harem from a perceived threat, but that knowledge was little consolation when the two and a half foot tall, 30 to 40 pound beast was running dead at us hissing, just inches away. My sweetie was genuinely frightened by this beast, which, of course obliged me to defend her against these attacks. Neither yelling nor gesticulating would deter his aggression. He came literally within an inch of a broadside from my boot on each of these occasions before retreating.
Despite these incidents, I would stay on this property again, just not in the Hamilton Cottage until the owners get this animal's behavior under control. The property is beautiful, including the geese! The winery is awesome! The place is just a few minutes from Cape May, but feels a world away. Because this particular cottage is located in territory claimed by the geese, it is just, sometimes, a scary world.
