Amazing Stay!

We had a wonderful experience staying at the property. Everything was as advertised, property owner was incredibly communicative / accessible, and the house was perfect for our family celebrating my wife’s birthday. We would gladly stay here again and highly recommend the house and owner!

A wonderful week for three generations!

Stayed for a week with our daughter and her family and son and his family (total of 6 adults and 4 kids ages 7-12. House is very comfortable with a nice game room and family room. The swimming pool was a huge hit- very nice to have a heated pool, even in the summer! We had a great time and will very likely come back!

Family reunion

Family reunion weekend - we had a super time! The property was lovely and our kids enjoyed the pool and play areas. The hot tub and covered porch were very nice for the adults. Conveniently located between Boston and NYC worked well for us. Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway

Water House

The property was beautiful!My only complaint is that although everything as in the property overview was accurate, the information for how to use the tv’s, to heat the water in the pool and hot tub were very vague and confusing — like location for the heating switch, or how to set up tv’s for Netflix, etc. And the kitchen faucet was missing a screw so it was very loose. But we had a good time together, and it was a beautiful setting.

At first glance, the house was wonderful. It has a great pool, and it has a great deck off of the kitchen that is covered and has plenty of seating. The coffee pot had a science project in the filter, the sink had two grungy stoppers, the sponge for cleaning dishes was used, and the worst part was that the downstairs gamerooms area was soaking wet when we arrived. This had obviously been a problem for a while as there was an awful stench from sitting water (in and under the rug) which rendered the downstairs gamerooms unusable. The second to last evening there was very heavy rain which created a leak through a kitchen light. The response was that the upstairs deck was allowing water inside the house because that was the unprotected side of the house. We were told the water in the gameroom area was from condensation from the A/C. Then get it fixed.

Christmas in Connecticut

We really enjoyed our stay at this property and Stephen couldn't have been a better host. We were always able to reach him and he was helpful each time. If you're looking for an escape to nature, I highly recommend this property.

Quiet and relaxing stay

The house was great and worked well for my family and grandkids. Lots of room , comfortable beds , a warm fireplace and it had snowed so we even got to sled on the hill ! A great place to be and convenient to a quaint area . Thank you for sharing this wonderful house with us !

My wife and I and 3 college-age children live in Washington, the perfect country destination within 2 hours of NYC. We moved here from NYC in 2003 to raise our children after years of weekending. I developed and managed boutique design hotels in NYC and CT and remain the managing partner of several. Upon moving to Washington I purchased and renovated many luxury vacation homes and currently rent them short and long term.

This is a beautiful home in a prime private scenic estate neighborhood in Litchfield County's most desirable town - Washington.

Washington is located in historic, rural Litchfield County, within a scenic 2-hour drive from NYC and is exceptional for its excellent restaurants, spas, antique shops, art galleries, boutiques, farms, historic homes, gardens, vineyards, distilleries, and orchards. The Gilmore Girls creator modeled Stars Hollow, the perfect Connecticut town, after Washington and the Independence Inn after the Mayflower Inn. It is the current or former home to many artists, writers, actors and Wall Street executives – referred to as "more Vermont, than Vermont" and "the un-Hamptons". Nature preserves, Lake Waramaug, and the Shepaug River offer extensive hiking, biking, and water activities. Mohawk and Sundown Ski Areas , Lime Rock Raceway, and Quassy Amusement Park are all a short drive. ExploreWashingtonCT and PoshPadsCT have the best listings of area amenities and event calendars. (Note that VRBO-HomeAway's map needs to be zoomed to really show Washington and Roxbury listings only and not homes 30 minutes away in less desirable locations.)
All of my homes in Washington and Roxbury (PoshPadsCT) are beautifully landscaped with flowering shrubs, flagstone terraces with gas bbq. And heated pools. They are furnisged with Frette pressed cotton sheets, plush towels and bathrobes, down featherbeds, comforters and pillows. Optional maid and catering and massage services are available. All homes have Central heat and AC, WiFi, flat screen televisions with dvds, cable and movie channels, and central alarms.

A car is necessary to enjoy rural Roxbury, Washington and Litchfield County.
The nearest bus station is Southbury, 15 minutes away.
The nearest train stations are in Amenia and Wingdale NY or Danbury or New Haven CT – all about 45 minutes away.
