Overall, the house was fine for our stay. Most importantly it was clean and bug free. There was plenty of room and the lay out is great. However, we had a number of issues that left us overall disappointed. Some examples:
We noticed early on that the pool was not filtering. The house has quite of bit of overhanging trees and the debris that falls into the pool is abundant. We tried to keep it clean with the included pool net but it had several holes in it. Honestly, it looked like it had been pulled from the garbage. In addition, the spa was apparently on a timer and would come on early in the morning. Since there were multiple signs warning against keeping the spa on too long and threats of fines if the pool was harmed by this, I had to get up early and turn it off multiple days. After repeated calls to the PM, the pool service eventually came out and addressed these issues.
The bottom of the grill was completely rusted out and you had to position meat strategically to avoid drippings falling straight through to the floor.
The toilet in the master bath would flush but not refill. An investigation revealed that fill valve was old and corroded and would stick after flushing. I fixed this myself.
Again, this is just a set of examples. There were more.
We've been staying in houses similar to this for many years and we are familiar with small things arising during our trips. In isolation, any of these (except maybe the pool) would have been easy to overlook. But in aggregate, it really gives the impression that the house is being maintained as cheaply as possible in order to maximize profit at the renter's expense. If you're looking for houses in this price range in HH, I would keep looking. We won't be back.
