First and foremost, saying the cabins are air conditioned is not true, the only cabin with central air is Chestnut. The Barn had NO a/c, and the beds are upstairs, so those family members were a bit uncomfortable. Homestead and Hemlock had window a/c units in the bedrooms only. The rest of the cabin did not, and there were no ceiling fans to help move the air, only small portable fans.
Secondly, the retreat is LOVELY. The trails and streams are SO beautiful, though we never found swimming holes, and the maintenance guys told us there really weren't any swimming holes when we asked them. We didn't mind much, as just listening to the constant sounds of the bubbling streams chilled us all out. The scenery really cannot be beat. The seclusion of the retreat was also great.
The cabins are lovely, VERY clean and well appointed, with very nice beds and linens. The kitchens have most everything you need except the food. Our ONLY disappointment was the lack of central A/C in all cabins except Chestnut.
The hosts were great communicators, and answered any questions quickly. We would have given a 5 star rating had it not be for the A/C.
