A Fabulous Stay at Westin Lagunamar and VERY SAFE!
While we have stayed at the Lagunamar previously, Marsha Harmon, the owner of the unit, was an amazing support and helped us with concierge and bell captain recommendations which made this stay the best we have had.
This is a 2 bedroom property with a queen/sofa bed lock off with its own bathroom and kitchen. We have older teenagers who want their privacy while we parents like to get to sleep. It’s the best arrangement one could imagine! We have a child with celiac disease, so the benefit of having 2 kitchens and a separate lock off unit makes the property PERFECT! Having 2 washer/dryers also is essential to us - pack light, always have clean clothing - we asked ourselves what did we do before these amenities! The units are accurate in the photos and are bigger than one would expect! We said a New York apartment this size would be millions of dollars!
Covid protocols were followed all throughout the resort by the staff and the guests. Everyone was very careful - no “mask below the nose” and even going to the bathroom from the beach netted people wearing masks in wet bathing suits.
We went out most nights but did make breakfast in the room (great store downstairs had everything we needed - including Starbucks coffee) and there are two markets - one walking distance and one a $10 USD taxi. We bbq’d on the property one night, typically ordered from the pool restaurants (there are 2) for lunch which comes right to your chair. The main pool is one of the best at any resort we have visited - no one was too close to one another it is so huge - and the beach, which we prefer, had plenty of chairs and umbrellas and is arguably on of the most beautiful we have ever seen. Soft white sand and the best ombré blue ocean anywhere in the world. We were told the resort is being kept at 70% capacity in accord with Covid protocols and so that if someone did test positive, there was a place they would be able to quarantine.
There had been press in the US about violence in Cancun but we saw none of this. The beaches were well patrolled and name and room numbers where checked at the guard house any time we left the resort on foot or by car.
One great thing about the Westin Lagunamar is its proximity to everything. If you want to stay on the resort 100% of the time, that is great. Most nights, we went out to dinner at restaurants which ranged from casual to fancy. Some of the best food we have had anywhere.
