The Space:

Three hundred years of history live within the granite walls of this restored watermill in Vilar de Mouros, where the constant murmur of the River Coura drifts through dark wooden windows. The main house, the largest of the four stone houses in the Watermill complex, accommodates 8 guests across four bedrooms — three with queen‑size beds and one with twin beds — each with its own full bathroom.



Inside, the original granite blends with walnut‑tone hardwood floors, exposed timber beams, and a striking architectural detail: a glass floor panel revealing the century‑old milling mechanisms beneath. The open‑plan living area offers river views, while the fully equipped kitchen (including a dishwasher) and the spacious dining area with a handcrafted chandelier create a warm atmosphere where time seems to slow down.



Outdoors, guests enjoy direct access to private gardens, a BBQ area, sun terraces, and a private path leading down to the river beach. Balancing historic charm with modern comforts — including Wi‑Fi, heating, and air conditioning in select rooms — this house offers authenticity, serenity, and a deep connection to nature.



The Neighborhood:

The River Coura wraps around the property in a generous bend, offering a crystal‑clear river beach right at the doorstep. Vilar de Mouros, a quiet riverside village in the Minho region — also known for hosting Portugal’s oldest music festival — is a place where silence is broken only by birdsong and the sound of water running over the rocks. In summer, the Coura provides excellent swimming conditions.

Just a few kilometres away, Caminha (5 km) preserves its medieval historic centre, with the Clock Tower and its granite square. Vila Nova de Cerveira, even closer, invites you to explore its art scene, the castle, and the riverfront along the Minho. Spain is only 20 km away: La Guardia, famous for its seafood preserves, is a classic day trip.

Further afield but well worth the visit are Viana do Castelo (25 km) with the Basilica of Santa Luzia perched on the hilltop, the Atlantic beaches (10 km), and even the Peneda‑Gerês National Park (40 km). Porto Airport lies about 90 km to the south.



Getting Around:

The car is the most convenient way to explore the region: Caminha is 5 minutes away, Viana do Castelo 30 minutes, and Porto just over an hour. The A28 provides fast access both north and south, and the Spanish border in Caminha opens the door to the Galician Rías Baixas.

There is private parking on the property for several vehicles. For those who prefer public transport, Transdev buses connect Vilar de Mouros to Caminha, where you can take a train to Porto.
