Perfect Cottage Stay!

We had a wonderful stay! The cottage was clean, super comfortable, and incredibly cozy. It had everything we needed for a relaxing and fun getaway. You can tell the hosts put thought into every detail. Highly recommend and would definitely come back!

This is such a special place to stay. Set high up on the hill on an island in Wood Lake, the view and sunsets are spectacular. The cottage is well appointed and modern - the kitchen had everything we needed and was very functional for a group of people who like to cook. We especially appreciated the many cozy blankets for lounging, and so many soft fluffy towels. The hosts were friendly and responsive. We'd love to stay here again!

This was our second family vacation at this perfect cottage on Wood Lake. We came a few years ago before our eldest left for university and had such a wonderful time that we wanted to do it again this year before seeing our middle child off to university. Everything was just as we remembered: bright, comfortable rooms with every detail just right, beautiful lake views and sunsets, swimming in pristine water, kayaking and paddleboating, sharing meals prepared in a well-appointed kitchen. Jennifer and Sean are ideal hosts who genuinely care about providing the best possible stay for their guests. They are extremely thoughtful, friendly, and easy to communicate with. Highly recommend!

Absolutely perfect cottage

we rent cottages a lot and we have never rented from nicer people. They were available to us at any time and were so kind and helpful. The cottage itself is perfect. We felt like we were staying in a tree house over looking the lake. Gorgeous views, great large upper deck. Sandy beach area for our 3 year old. We couldnt have asked for anything else.

Spectacular! Stunning! Peaceful!

Just came back from a 5 day stay at this stunning property. Booking, check-in and check-out with Jenn was so easy. She was friendly, helpful and most thoughtful. Our needs were attended to swiftly without hesitation. Thank you, Jenn! and, to Carrie and Steven! Beautiful cottage: sits on top of a hill over looking a tranquil lake, surrounded by trees and a massive sweeping rock leading up to the cottage. This cottage is thoughtfully designed with style to make it feel homey, warm and cozy, and that's exactly how we felt, and the view is spectacular and stunning in every sense from dawn to dusk. Kitchen is well stocked with typical kitchen wares - there's no need to bring any of yours. I tend to bring my own pots and pans, and knives :). Best quality linens, sheets, and towels and bathroom essentials were provided. Very pleased! Fridge (brand new), Stove and BBQ (all relatively new): Meal prep whether using the stove or BBQ was like cooking at home. We had amazing family meals the whole time we were there, which we don't often get to do living in the City. Island time: Hubby was doubtful if he could survived cooped up for 5 days but day 2 on he was planning our return here. There was no time to be bored with 2 kayaks, row boats, and paddle boards to occupy your time here on the lake. Even our 11 month old toy poodle enjoyed himself thoroughly Planning our next trip here already. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a real downtime.

Beautiful area and lovely cottage

Hosts were fantastic and even helped us to connect with our boat rental pick up on the lake. The small beach for our grandson was great as were the selection of watercrafts. Love the size of the calm lake. The cottage association is proud and you can tell. Wonderful views, comfortable cottage and two fridges to keep items for our 10 days was appreciated. Tiny drawbacks were the hill climb that had a couple of rough spots and the firepit was a climb. At night by a firepit, you don't want to be climbing so we didn't use it. Instead we did the fireplace one night. The dock is great but large rocks that can damage a boat needs to be marked. The previous cottagers left open bag of sugar in the cupboard and we had to deal with ants - not the host fault but cottagers should be more responsible when leaving any premises. OR bring sealed containers for items prone to pests. Last thing is I believe it should be made clearer on description of the hike up to the cottage as it may not be suitable for elderly or very young children, It would help prepare to pack lighter and bring appropriate shoes if needed. However, the hosts did mention their plans to improve so some of this is in the works. Ideas could include a fire table on the beautiful large deck and maybe a system to pull up your supplies. A rainy day trek up or down the hill and stairs could be tricky when slippery. We overall loved our stay

Peaceful and comfortable, with a beautiful lake view

Our family had a wonderful week at this clean, comfortable, peaceful cottage. We enjoyed kayaking, paddle-boating, swimming, and sitting on the dock; on one cool and rainy day , the kids watched movies and we a had a cozy fire in the fireplace. The kitchen had everything we needed and we had some great meals while enjoying the excellent view of the lake. The linens were particularly nice and high-quality. Jennifer and Sean were lovely hosts: responsive and pleasant. And the sunsets were indeed spectacular!

Views to remember

Excellent family experience. Jennifer and her “assistant “ were an absolute pleasure to work with. Questions were answered quickly and clearly. The addition of the stand up paddle board was a great surprise. The views are unbeatable and the best sunset anywhere. Loved it. Rick K

Lovely location!

Our family had a wonderful time. The cottage is well stocked and clean. It was our first time cottaging on a smaller lake (vs Lake Huron) and we will defiantly be back. It is so relaxing to be on the island and enjoy the water, views and peacefulness. Thank you as well to Jenn and Sean for being wonderful hosts, they were more than accommodating.

Fantastic holiday, great views, great dock and sandy beach. Early morning kayaks started our day.

The island cottage is a great experience. The cottage set up was absolutely perfect with a view of the lake from every front window. Spent evenings on the deck having dinners, drinks and relaxing. Morning kayaking and paddle boarding started our day. Morning coffee on the deck overlooking the Wood Lake was a highlight of the day. The portable air conditioner added comfort to our week considering how hot and humid it was. Jennifer and Sean were great hosts. The island cottage is spacious and Jennifer’s decorating touches made the cottage very cozy. Thanks for making island cottage experience special

Beautiful cottage with amazing views!

Overall this cottage was absolutely beautiful inside and out! The views from the cottage were breathtaking and worth the walk up. Jennifer was very easy to communicate with and accommodating. The cottage was kept very clean and had everything you needed for the week. Jennifer and Sean were both extremely kind and made you feel very welcomed upon arrival! We did bring our own boat so we can explore the island but it did bring upon some issues. We were unable to dock our boat at their mainland cottage as there were other renters there so when we needed to make a grocery run into town we had to drop someone off at their mainland cottage and drive a car to the public boat launch which was 10 minutes away then leave the boat unattended while we were away. This was inconvenient however, I’m sure it is something that can be resolved in the future! Overall, this cottage is truly beautiful and it felt like a home away from home!

Awesome Family Vacation July 3 - 10, 2021

Our family of 6 adults, 3 children & 2 dogs had an incredibly memorable time on this amazing cottage. The dock accommodated the boat that we rented. Nice little sandy beach to play at. The cottage was spacious and very well looked after and was equipped with lots of supplies that we did not have to pack & bring with us. The pontoon shuttle was fun and Jen, Sean an Len are great people. Highly recommend to anyone that is looking for a remote island experience with the most breath taking sunsets ever!! Perfect Island Vacation!

Cleanliness: Very well maintained and very clean considering this is a pet friendly rental. Both our dogs (Husky & Yorkie) made themselves at home on the dog beds available in the living room. Bathrooms and bedrooms were spotless and decor made it feel like home. Island Experience: The thought of being on an island concerned us but everything was well provided for by the host and they were available to provide rides back and forth with 48hrs notice which worked well for us. (Small fee applies) Couldn't have asked for a better view of sunrise/sunset from the deck. The nature surrounding the cottage was a breath of fresh air not to mention entertaining to have a family of chipmunks visit us everyday. Water & Land: Paddle boat and kayaks were there for us to use in good condition. Weather was suppose to rain 6/7 days but to our surprise, we had more sun than rain and managed to get quite a bit of swimming done.The cottage is a small hike from the dock but is also one of the reasons for the beautiful view, totally worth it. Hosts: Sean and Jennifer were great and super friendly hosts. Always available to accommodate and help throughout our stay. I dropped my keys in the lake by the dock on the first day and Sean was nice enough to find it for us. We would definitely recommend this rental to others and plan on visiting again in the future!

Great Host

Jennifer was a great host. She was accommodating and provided everything we required to enjoy our stay! The cottage was lovely and secluded - it was a perfect getaway from the city. The kayaks and paddle boat were a plus! The WiFi was decent and we were able to work a few days of our stay. Highly recommend.

Cottage on Wood Island

This vacation was like staying at a 5 star resort. It was extremely clean, filled with every amenity you could think of. The climb up to the cottage on the island was strenuous, especially since we brought way more than we really needed so lots of trips up upon arrival! Our hosts were very kind and helped us with our "stuff" both coming and leaving. Has we wanted to go on a day trip, our hosts would have been available to take us to the mainland, but we were fine. The view from this cottage is as grand as was advertised, with incredible sunsets.

Perfect stay for first timers to the cottage scene with a perfect view all day and everyday...

To start off this review I gotta start with the most friendly part and that is the owners. Both Sean and Jennifer are probably the friendliest and welcoming faces you could see when arriving. Sean was super helpful with loading up our stuff and helping to get it across the lake to the cottage as well as showing us around. Jennifer was super quick and helpful whenever we messaged her with a concern of any kind. Together, they made the whole process effortless, enjoyable and stress-free. The cottage itself was everything that was advertised and so much more. The building was gorgeous with the massive windows providing a picture perfect view of the lake and sunset. The view of the sunset every single day was absolutely breathtaking and never got old. The wooden furnishings and fireplace gave the home a true cozy cottage feeling. This place came with everything that was needed to have a blast on the water and in the home. If you're a family that is new to cottage life or just don't have things like kayaks, paddle boards, etc. everything is provided along with life jackets. For the evening when it's time to turn in and relax there is a fireplace with wood provided to get one going. They have a TV with appleTV setup on it along with a plethora of films to watch. You could also connect your phone and stream youtube as there is WIFI provided. Alternatively you could also connect a laptop to the tv and watch movies/shows that you brought along too. The kitchen and grill are well kept and everything works perfectly. They also provide you with pots, pans, plates, and cutlery to cook up anything you desire (bring your own ingredients and food to cook). The grill is kept in good condition and propane is provided along with all the tools needed for a good grillmaster! Overall, the whole experience was amazing and we will definitely be coming back next year! I highly recommend it to anyone that is new to the cottage experience!

Beautiful Island getaway

My family had a wonderful week long getaway. The property and cottage are beautiful. Our group consisted of 4 adults, 3 small children, and 2 dogs, we had plenty of space and everything we needed. We appreciated the amenities like laundry, wifi, full kitchen and really enjoyed having access to the kayaks, paddleboard and paddle board to explore the lake! We all had a great time! Jenn was super accommodating and easy to get in touch with leading up to, and during our stay. Thanks for a great vacation :)

Just perfect!

Just returned from a great week here. Everything about this booking was easy from start to finish. The owners Jenn and Sean are wonderful hosts - they leave you to your privacy and yet are quick to respond if you need them. We will not forget Sean appearing out of the mist during a heavy rainfall to fix the TV! The property itself is lovely - the setting is perfect, it is stocked with everything you could need, with quality linens and even toiletries provided. Plus the promised sunsets are pretty amazing too! The lake is quiet, calm, kayaking was awesome, a little beach plus the dock. Ample room and the internal decor is so light and airy, and all about that view! We also enjoyed being ferried over to the island, taking in the scenery and chatting with the hosts, who even helped with our bags! Seriously you couldn’t get nicer folks. If you are looking for a quality cottage vacay (true modern cottage not a ‘hotel-feel’ fake) you will love this property.

A lot of Problems

Property owner let my booking go through, all guests took vacay days, she said VRBO allowed the booking due to COVID-19 & 3 days before checkin I text her & she tells me "I'm going to have to cancel, I thought I'd be more comfortable renting but I'm not." I respect that decision b/c of COVID, however, she took my money, didnt tell us this might not go through, & LET us book when we REQUESTED (not auto booking). She could have said, "this is tentative," etc but didnt. After more texting our booking worked out under the condition we come 2 days later & leave 2 days after. That worked, however, she didn't change the booking date officially, so when I contacted customer service later, they required evidence of this change & said it was strange & not proper policy. We had several requirements for our stay and narrowed the scope of what places we could book. We required good wifi, pet-friendly, A/C (bc it was supposed to be very hot), & wanted a whole property on water. It was hard to find a place like this! However, we would rather not have come than not have had these amenities. Property said online it had all these amenities! We got there during the hottest week of summer to date, & our property - that said it had A/C - did not! Instead there were a few fans & property owner told us to open windows & doors. Like, what? Despite doing this, house measured 30+ degrees nearly all day. Entire front wall of house is in windows & traps heat like a furnace. There are no blinds on windows either & we measured over 40 degrees inside at times. I expressed my concern once we got there but she encouraged us to stick through & we tried. She also said she didn't say it had A/C & blamed it on website. On the 2nd night we couldn't take it & i presented her w/ 2 options. Buy us some portable A/Cs or let us go home early (it's on an island so she had to take us). I said I had to know ASAP in case I had to call H.A customer service (they have policy with time limitations for some refunds). She said I was threatening her & told me it'd be best to get off her property. I asked for what I paid for & she made me leave. She said she wasn't mother nature and couldn't control the weather, She also said no properties on the lake had A/C which is a lie b/c we know guests who've stayed on Wood Lake properties with AC. She said AC was so unusual there I shouldn't have expected it. It also was not fully clean when we got there (dirty appliances) which was scary bc of COVID-19.

The overwhelming last impression of our stay was the friendliness and accommodation shown to us by the property owner and her family. They went out of their way to make not only our stay but also those of our visitors a memorable one. While the steepness of the hill from the water to the cottage caught us a little by surprise we 70+ year olds used it as a challenge to get in some much needed exercise. The cottage itself had all of the modern conveniences , beautiful lake and amazing sunsets as advertised.

Amazing vacation fun.

We had a wonderful time. The water was so swimmable - warm and shallow waters - the kitchen was well stocked and easy to cook in - the bedrooms were comfortable with excellent sheets. Our host was friendly, communicative, generous and kind. All-in-all we had a wonderful time.

if you are looking for the best sunsets besides Negril this is your place.

The location of the cottage and the ability to swim off the dock and from the sandy beach make the location a dream. Jennifer was so good to deal with and made us all feel like family, it was special. Her family did everything to make us feel welcome and it was appreciated. I highly recommend this location and we will be back.

We own our family cottage on the same lake. We spend summers up there and all our kids have grown up on the lake, learning to sail, kayak, waterski and paddle board. We are die hard cottages and kept seeing this spot through the teees, commenting how amazing it would be to own it. After inviting ourselves on to the property we left with the feeling that we had to hunt down the owners to see if they would sell. We got lucky and they did. First year we were in we freshened everything up with some paint, replaced all the windows and decorated to feel more like us. Whenever we have friends to our cottage they now have a little private spot on the island to stay.

It began as over spill to our cottage for friends and growing children. However it has become our favorite of the two cottages. Peaceful,, feels like you are outside when in as the entire front wall is window. Great for entertaining, with a massive down to the beach where you can swim out to our floating dock, or hop in a kayak or paddle boat.

You can park at our main cottage and we will shuttle you over. Everything you need for a full vacation is available-fishing rods, board games, kayak, paddle boat, full kitchen, dishwasher, coffee machine, laundry, full bath/shower plus a second bathroom off main floor. Pack your bags and food and your ready.
