We’re Deb and Ted, and Topsail Island has been part of our family’s story for decades.

Ted first discovered Topsail Island while serving our country in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. Years later, after we met, married, and started a family, it became one of those special places we kept coming back to.

Our story together began in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, just outside Philadelphia. Deb grew up in Williamsville, New York, near Buffalo, and moved to the Philadelphia area for college. Ted grew up in Kennett Square, where his father was a teacher and his mother was a school nurse. Ted spent many years as a mushroom farmer in an area famous for producing some of the country’s fresh mushrooms. We met in Kennett Square, fell in love, and married in the early 1980s.

As our family grew, Topsail Island became part of our children’s childhood. We made the trip from Pennsylvania year after year because we loved the beautiful beaches, relaxed pace, and the feeling that Topsail was somewhere you could truly get away. Our three children grew up playing on these beaches and searching the sands of Surf City for shark teeth. Those are memories we still treasure today.

Our children are now grown and married, with careers as a veterinarian, middle school teacher, and mechanical engineer, and we now live on a small farm outside Raleigh, North Carolina. But our love for Topsail Island has never gone away.

Today, through our homes at Ocean Watch Villas, we get to share a little piece of the Topsail Island we have loved for so many years. We hope our homes give you a beautiful, comfortable place to slow down, reconnect with the people you love, enjoy the ocean, and create some wonderful Topsail memories of your own.

There is something truly special about Ocean Watch Villas. This intimate community of just eight oceanfront homes, known locally as the “Candy Colored Homes,” is one of the most recognizable spots in Surf City. You can see the colorful homes as you come across the bridge onto the island, and once you arrive, you are right in the heart of everything Surf City has to offer.

What we love most is the combination of being directly on the ocean while also being able to walk almost everywhere. Restaurants, coffee and donut shops, Ice Cream shops, bars, local breweries, the grocery store, parks and other Surf City favorites are all just a short walk away. In the summer, you can stroll to outdoor concerts, movies, craft fairs and other community events, then come home to the beach.

It is the kind of location where many of our guests tell us they park the car when they arrive and don’t use it again until it is time to go home. You can spend the morning on the beach, walk to lunch, wander into town for an afternoon treat, enjoy dinner and drinks, and then walk home along the ocean.

That combination is why we chose Ocean Watch Villas: oceanfront living in the heart of Surf City, with the beach at your doorstep and the town just steps away. For us, it is one of the best ways to experience Topsail Island.

We believe a great vacation rental should feel like more than just a place to stay. We work hard to make our homes an exceptional part of your vacation experience. We have filled them with premium furnishings, comfortable bedding and thoughtful amenities, and we continually invest in upgrades and improvements to keep them fresh, comfortable and beautifully maintained.

Of course, it is hard to compete with the setting. Ocean Watch Villas is directly oceanfront, with beautiful views and outdoor spaces designed for enjoying them. Start the morning with coffee overlooking the ocean, watch for dolphins from the deck, spend the afternoon on the beach or at the private Ocean Watch Villas community pool, and end the day listening to the waves. Even guests who love the ocean but prefer to leave the sand to everyone else can enjoy the experience from the comfort of the decks and covered outdoor spaces.

Another thing that makes our homes especially unique is the flexibility they offer for extended and multigenerational families traveling together. We own three of the eight homes in the intimate Ocean Watch Villas community: Hook Wine & Sinker, Sea for Yourself and Sea-King Refuge. Families and friends can vacation together while still having the privacy and breathing room of separate homes.

For even larger gatherings, we also own an eight-bedroom oceanfront home with an elevator and private pool approximately four blocks away in the 400 block of South Shore Drive. This gives larger groups the opportunity to stay close to one another without trying to fit everyone under one roof.

Ultimately, what makes our properties different is the care we put into them. We want you to arrive and feel that someone thought about the details before you got there. From the quality of the furnishings and amenities to the ongoing improvements we make, our goal is simple: to provide the kind of comfortable, well-appointed beach home we would want to find when we arrived for our own vacation.
