Delightful holiday home

As a family group of 9 adults, we really enjoyed our stay at La Marteille. The attractive house with its pretty grounds is a good size with enough space for everyone to eat together, or find a quiet spot if they prefer some solitude. The pool is lovely; the weather was exceptionally hot while we were there, but because of its thick walls the house remains cool. The hosts were helpful and friendly without being intrusive. We particularly enjoyed swimming in the excellent lake at La Jemaye, canoeing from Brantome, visiting the gorgeous town of St Emilion and being able to stroll to the local village for croissants. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful private character property with lovely pool and views

We stayed at la Marteille for a week and didn't want to leave. You do need a car as it's very secluded but this area is very beautiful and peaceful. All the family loved the pool which is a good size for swimming. We enjoyed collecting our croissants each morning from the little shop and eating them overlooking the surrounding hills, and then later having a family dinner around the big outdoor table underneath the stars which are very clear in this area. Joelle and Michael were very friendly and helpful when needed. Michael greeted us with a lovely cold beer that was much appreciated after a long drive. We would definitely return.

We hadden een geweldig verblijf. Mooi zwembad en huis. Fijn dat er een hek om het zwembad was die de allerkleinste kinderen niet konden openen. De ruimte om het huis was fantastisch. Dank ook aan Joelle en Michael. Zij dachten echt met ons mee.

Magnifique gîte dans un environnement préservé

Nous avions loué ce gîte pour le mariage de mon fils qui avait lieu au château du village. Le gîte est dans un immense jardin entouré d’arbres et oiseaux dans un environnement très campagnard. Les chambres sont très propres et joliment décorées. Les cuisines et salle de séjour très agréables. Nous n’avons pas pu utiliser la piscine en raison de la météo mais elle avait l’air superbe. A recommander !

Week-end parfait!

Ce gîte est l'endroit parfait pour se retrouver à plusieurs. Nous étions 12, de 4 à 82 ans et chacun a adoré son séjour ! Nous avons pu profiter d'un superbe espace extérieur et de nombreuses pièces à l'intérieur pour discuter, jouer en plus petit comité. Un seul petit regret : l'eau de la magnifique piscine n'a pas dépassé les 20 degrés... seuls les moins frileux ont pu en profiter. Mais c'est une adresse que nous retenons! Merci.

Fantastic time in beautiful surroundings

We have stayed with extended family and friends including a number of teens, baby and a large dog. Had brilliant time, house well equipped for all ages, pool is large and very well maintained. Extensive grounds with lots of places to relax including my favourite - the hammock! The views are to die for! All very clean and the owners were fantastic, helpful but not intrusive. We had such a lovely time and will come back to continue exploring the area - so much to do!

Une bonne adresse pour se retrouver au calme

Belle bâtisse très bien rénovée d'une propreté impeccable, aménagée avec goût avec tout l'équipement nécessaire. Les extérieurs sont très bien entretenus et la piscine est superbe. Les propriétaires dans la maison mitoyenne sont aussi discrets que sympathiques. Il faut seulement revoir le portique pour enfants qui a vécu. Très bonne adresse pour déconnecter en famille ou entre amis.

Merci de nous avoir fait remarquer l'état du portique. Nous n'avions pas vu que le bois des poteaux commençaient à pourrir. Nous avons acheté une nouvelle balançoire, elle est installée.

Super maison pour retrouvailles familiales

Gite choisi pour sa situation géographique. Maison super bien aménagée avec des chambres en rdc pour les personnes avec une mobilité réduite. Salles de bains ok. Cheminée pour une bonne ambiance. Superbe gite pour vacances reussies

Propriété identique à la description et aux photos, très spacieux, bien équipée, environnement très calme avec un extérieur immense. Une piscine grandiose, hyper bien entretenue et chaises longues à disposition pour tout monde. Merci à Joëlle et Michael pour leur accueil, leur gentillesse et leur bienveillance. Nous recommandons vivement cette location si vous souhaitez passer d excellentes vacances.

Gîte très spacieux, tranquille avec piscine et jardin!

Idéale pour des vacances en famille. Nous étions 8 adultes, 2 enfants et un bébé. Il y avait tout ce qu’il fallait dans la (les) cuisines pour préparer les repas. La grande table à l’exterieur était superbe où l’on a pris nos petit-déjeuners et diners dans la soirée. C’était três agréable pour nous tous d’avoir la literie et les essuis sur place, inclus dans le prix de location. Nous avions bien été reçu lors de notre arrivée par Joëlle et Michael. Si nous avions des questions ou des choses qui nous manquaient, ils étaient très serviables. Le seul inconvénient, selon nous était la dimension et la qualité des lits en général. La boulangerie dans le village est à 2 pas, même à pieds! A Ribérac il y a Leclerc et Intermarché où il y a tout ce qu’il faut.

Nous avons des lits anciens francais avec des literies récentes (sauf dans une chambre jusqu'à présent). Ils peuvent paraître petits à certains étrangers mais sont de dimension standard

Hospitable yet discreet hosts. Lovely house and so nearly a 5. Requires thought on the layout and access to bathrooms and some upgrades to the beds. Beware the owners rum punches! Pool was excelĺent and dining tables and chairs sufficient for all conditions incl rain. Nice gardens and relaxed attitude to dogs. A really nice base for a family or friends holiday group.

Wonderful stay

This property comfortably accommodated two families of four and two sets of grandparents without anyone feeling on top of each other. There was plenty of activities for the kids to do and the pool was lovely and an added benefit being gated off from the garden so us grownups could relax knowing the kids were always safe. The property is very well equipped and the owners were lovely. Although they live next door at no point did they intrude on your holiday, but they were always on hand should you need anything. Fantastic area of the Dordogne. Aubeterre which was only 5 mins away was a lovely local town. Would highly recommend staying here.

Lovely house with everything you would want

Joelle and Michael were excellent hosts. Although their house was attached, we rarely saw them, but they were available when we needed something. The house was perfect. It was well equipped, clean and had plenty of space for our party of 11 (aged 9 to 80). The bedrooms were all a good size, although a little on the hot side due to the high temperatures at the beginning of the week. One thing to note is that the stairs aren't the easiest but there is a double and a twin (as well as two showerooms) on the ground floor. The pool was fantastic and well used during our week's stay (by everyone) and was especially useful for the 'Olympics' (very serious races involving inflatables)! It was very clean and well maintained. The only criticism would be that there were not enough sunbeds or umbrellas. We had a lovely week in Saint Private des Pres and would thoroughly recommend it.

Family Holiday 2018

Our family of 11 stayed at the property of Joelle and Michael Struffert. They were excellent owners and although they live attached to the holiday property we only saw them when we wanted an opinion about places that we had planned to visit. We had visited the Dordoyne region before but this area was new for us and did not disappoint. The weather all week was very hot and the pool was a must in the afternoon especially for the 4 children. The local village had one main shop run by 'nanny' and you can walk there, drive there or borrow a bike but beware the hill on the way back is quite steep as I found out one day ! The shop seems to sell everything and there are supermarkets 10-15 kms drive away. Apart from the pool there was plenty to amuse the children, with swings, table tennis, badminton, boule and inside the farmhouse there was every board game ever invented together with lego by the box-full.

Beautiful and clean...but soooo hooooot

An excellent overall state. He stayed with three other families in the pool was clean and the beds were comfortable and Truly this is a beautiful area. However unfortunately my computer got stolen either in the room or in my car while on the property, and the night sweats really hot. They need air-conditioning and surveillance cameras.

We are happy that our gîte has pleased you! But we do not see the utility of installing surveillance cameras. Just lock the doors when you leave the house! No lock was damaged so there was no theft by housebreaking while you were away. However you have invited a lot of people to swim in our pool. What did they do? Do you want to be watched by cameras during your stay? We are sorry for the heat. We do not like being disturbed by the noise of an air conditioner. We prefer to close windows and curtains during the day and to ventilate the evening and the night and to use the fans.

Excellent

I find myself slightly reluctant to create a review .....after all, after our amazing week, we want to go back again and again so MORE competition is NOT what we want!! However that would be so selfish towards Joelle and Michael. They were excellent hosts who went above and beyond to make our party - a large family group of 12, ranging from 2 to almost 70 (ME!) - comfortable, very welcome and they willingly assisted us with the planning of all our outings, during our week long stay.....without being intrusive. The house was perfect; the garden well maintained with a large lawned area, roomy enough for whole family rounders, cricket, etc. when the weather permitted, and the beautifully maintained and heated pool, with security fencing, was very popular with us all. Everything about the property and it’s surrounds fulfilled all our expectations. Thank you Joelle and Michael for a lovely holiday!

Beautiful villa within easy reach to all the local amenities supermarkets restaurants and lots more

We arrived to a lovely welcome from the owners we got a bit lost in the village but with a phone call soon got sorted infact the owner cycled down to show us the way We were a family of 12 with ages from 2 years to 74 years we got sorted out with rooms that really suited our family group every thing was there in the villa toys to keep the children happy plus adults that had a lovely time some behaving like children at times ,!,! .... We have stayed in many villas in France but this was by far our nicest We knew the area well as we once owned a small house near by in Aubeterre sur drome that bought back many happy memories To sum it up lovely villa in a lovely part of France with helpful owners Beautiful swimming pool that we spent a lot of time in the weather was really warm so it was difficult to keep the children away from

Wonderful week

Our party consisted of nine people spread across 3 generations although still room for more. Plenty to do onsite table tennis, boule etc and of course the pool where the temperature of the water reached 29 degrees earlier in the week. Very hot there to start with so the shade under the trees was most welcome, there is plenty of room to spread out if you want a quiet spot. Missing the morning walk (ok a couple of times the car!) into the village to collect croissants, pain au chocolat etc. The owners Michel and Joelle very attentive without being intrusive.

Superbe Gite idéalement placé

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour à la Marteille. Nous étions nombreux (11 adultes/7enfants) et la capacité du gite nous a très largement permis de passer 4 jours grâce a sa grande capacité d'accueil. Toute l'équipe était ravie des différentes commodités du gite : chambres spacieuses, plusieurs salle de bain, cadre authentique, piscine protégé pour les enfants, nombreux jeux extérieur (balançoire, table de ping pong ...), barbecue. Les propriétaires sont très accueillants et arrangeants sans être intrusifs. La localisation en pleine campagne est top, le cadre est relaxant, idéalement situé à coté de Riberac avec son marché à ne pas manquer. Le gite est également situé à coté d'une ferme avec de nombreux animaux pour le plus grand plaisir des petits. Je recommande ce gite dans lequel nous avons passé un excellent moment.
