Stay at Casa Rameen for 7 days with pure relaxation! Stayed here with my girlfriend, her little sister, and friend. All of us from Vancouver, Canada in our late twenties with full time jobs. We are not hostel types. Casa Rameen and Puerto Viejo was just what we were looking for in our vacation. The house has everything you need to be self-sufficient; fans galore, coffee maker, blender, refrigerator, dishes and tupperware for leftovers. Eating meals on the deck and utilizing the bbq and hammocks is a must. One of the highlights is definitely the outdoor shower and toilet. Taking a cold shower during a thunderstorm left me awestruck.
The house itself like many other's in PV was very basic in construction, but what it lacked in modernity, was overcompensated with location and character. Care takers had excellent communication and helped us with any needs we had. Being in the jungle, wildlife was abundant the entire trip. Sloths, howlers, geckos, and birds birds birds!
We rented bikes for the entire week, which we kept at the house without a worry. Biking to the beach and grocery store was 5 min. but walking to the beach was just as easy as a ten min walk. PV's bank, restaurants, bars and shops are about 15 min away by bike. We biked or walked everywhere....no need for taxi even at night!
One last thing. We stayed the beginning of May or rainy season. PV and all adjoining towns were void of tourists during our stay :) Our rain jackets and warm clothes never left our bags until we got back on the plane to go home...literally. All you need is a swim suit, sandals, and some water. It rained everyday, but generally in the evening/night, which with the heat became inviting. When the weather is 30-35 everyday, you don't mind the rain. One after noon at the beach it began to rain, so we simply went swimming in the warm ocean water, than walked home in the warm rain. Pura Vida Man!
Don't forget your sunscreen and bug spray ;).
