The Owners are proud to present their third restoration in the Gold Coast of Davenport. Here's Lois-an incredibly active and creative octogenarian. Who let that girl on a ladder? If you look closely at the mural in the dining room you will see that she painted some of it herself.
They drove through Davenport in 1964 on their way to the New York World's Fair.
Lois said to Maurice:
"I want to come back some day and buy a house on the Mississippi River."
50 years later they came back and bought Priester House and commenced restoring it to a single family home. To do so, they had to evict a bunch of bad renters-a host of raccoons. They couldn't believe their good fortune. A few years later Koehler Mansion became available next door. The following year, the Gaines Mansion was stripped of its copper plumbing and electrical wire. The City threatened to demolish it. In stepped Lois and Maurice to save it. They say that fools rush in. The owners reckon that they have stripped miles of woodwork. Lois has sewn yards of curtains and Maurice is a fixture at the local Home Depot. The friends they have made in the neighborhood, fellow restorers, are new friends for life. The Owners have imbued each of the 40 plus rooms of these houses with their talent, hard-work and good humor. As a guest, you will feel their spirit.
