I rented to property to host my Father's Memorial for my family. I told the host a week before about the memorial hoping the house would be ready. I mentioned a bad review he had to him, but he said it was all good. The house was shockingly filthy. Counter and dishwasher filled with all the clean dishes that needed to be put away. Waded dish cloths, smelly sponges, food bits left in the kitchen sink. Old food in the fridge. Microwave spills. Grimy kitchen needed to be scrubbed before I could start the cooking for my event. All the floors in the house had to be swept. End tables, mirrors, glass tables. The futon we used to sit on was even missing a cushion! I was embarrassed when my family arrived even after I cleaned it. The mattresses were horrible. Hard as a rock. It is very noisy at night with street noise. I read that in another review, so I brought a white noise machine from home. The only cooking pot in the house went under the leaking bathroom sink. The bugs were horrible so we went and bought spray. I left the house early Sunday to attend to family things after having my guests there late into the night Saturday. When I got home Sunday, I messaged the host pictures and description. He said, "the cleaning crew is lazy and I fired them" BUT HE REFUSED to reimburse me the cleaning fee. I felt like that was fair since I did the cleaning. The host offered no solution to the stress he caused me when I needed to be focused on family, not cleaning his dirty house. My mistake was handling it myself and not immediately contacting the site and host. I was so busy with cooking and getting ready, it did not occur to me to contact him late Friday night when I discovered the 1st problems. I was worried I would have to either leave the house when I had all my guests coming the next day or wait for someone to show up and fix it in the middle of the night. Saturday when the sink was obviously leaking all over the floor, again, I was worried about the host sending a plumber in the middle of my memorial for my Dad. I have stayed in dozens on vacation homes and have never left a poor review. My mistake was leaving the property before contacting the host. I should have reported the issues right away. Seriously though, shame on him for doing nothing to remedy the situation. I would not trust him nor do I trust this site to stand by their properties. No customer service at all from the site. Not even an apology.
