My husband and I stayed over Labor Day weekend. So happy to find this well kept home in a quiet location just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, less then 10 minutes from Blue Ridge Music Center, where we enjoyed the final summer concert. We brought food and had plenty of kitchen amenities for cooking at home. Back Porch was wonderful for day and night relaxing, with beautiful sunrises, entertaining hummingbirds, deer under the crabapple tree, and Milky Way brightly shining in the dark skies. There’s a short blazed trail from side yard to a pretty stream in the woods. We drove 10 minutes to trailhead for nearby Upper Stewart’s Creek Wildlife Management area and hiked both trail branches for an hour or so, the upper one ending at an old primitive graveyard. The view from home’s back porch overlooks this wilderness area (we spotted the house from trail) so will remain undeveloped and quiet.
We did our final section bicycle ride of New River Trail from Draper to Allisonia and back, dining for lunch at fun and delicious Draper Mercantile general store. We also visited Chateau Morrisette Vinyard and listened to their live music on Labor Day.
Very pleasant home base, comfortable in every way. Be sure to read the interesting bio of the home’s original builder/owner, who must have been a very strong and brilliant lady!
