I booked this place on February 7, 2023, for April 6–10, 2024. I drove from Virginia for the total eclipse. I also had friends and family in from five states. On April 3, 2024, I got an email from VRBO with my trip details, including the address and entry method.
When I arrived on April 6, I called the property owner, per the property instructions. The property owner informed me the place was double booked. I called and talked with the property manager (both live in town). They informed me that VRBO and another website they use double booked it, and this was VRBO’s fault. The group already there used another website to book it.
The property manager found me another place to stay with fewer beds, which I had to pay for out of pocket. I did not get my refund for the first place until after the trip. In addition, I had to pay way more for the second place.
I called VRBO on April 12. They said I should have called VRBO for assistance when I found the property double booked and that calling on April 12 was too late. The town was booked full due to the eclipse. VRBO accused the property manager for not syncing the websites.
I had to spend more money for less house than I paid for over a year before. I communicated these issues with the property manager and have not received a response. VRBO was no help. I’m posting this review because I have no other method to promulgate my experience.
