Week Vacation in Elbow

My family of 5 stayed in the house for 7 nights. The property is great and very typical of an Elbow Cay rental. It is laid back and a perfect location near Sea Spray, Abaco Inn and Tahiti beach... walking distance to all of them. Caretaker was awesome and helped us with the water and coordinating golf cart return etc. There is no washer dryer for use by the tenants which is important to know if you are staying for a longer duration.

Beautiful Time

This property was perfect for my family. The location is approximately 3 miles south of Hopetown Marina/harbor and having a golf cart is really ideal when arriving. Property set up was also amazing. Three bedrooms, spacious living quarters, and beautiful outdoors. The concierge was very property in providing anything we needed. I would highly recommend to anyone staying.

Perfect for what we needed.

Family Vacation

My family had a fun filled 9 days on Elbow Cay staying in Catch A Wave from 8/22 - 8/31. Even though it was the start of off season (which we didn't realize) and some of the restaurants/shops were closed we still did a lot. We rented a boat from Conch Pearl Boats (MOW), explored the other cays, fished, spear fished, snorkeled, bar/restaurant hopped, climbed the lighthouse, went to Tahiti beach, etc. Our family consisted of 6 adults, my husband, our two adult "kids", and their significant others and Catch A Wave was comfortable and very spacious giving everyone their own space when needed but also had plenty of spaces inside and outside to come together and just hang out and relax. I will miss waking up and having my coffee on the deck every morning listening to the waves and feeling the breeze. Jack (the caretaker) was always there whenever we needed anything, he and his wife are a big asset to Catch A Wave. We will be back...

Paradise Found

First time staying at Catch A Wave but not the last. The house was perfect and the outdoor area did not disappoint! Thank you to Hermanette & Jack the caretakers as well, were at the dock upon our arrival, rented us a golf cart for the week, even suggested Captain Mike for a charter boat experience, exploring the other surrounding islands. We would highly recommend this property.

Great to be back!

We returned to Hope Town after a five year hiatus due to the hurricane and pandemic. It was great to see how well the island has bounced back and so many of the familiar friendly faces. An ideal vacation for us with surprise pool toys/games/etc at the property for our kids and close proximity to Tahiti Beach which is their absolute favorite place in the world. Owner (Jane) was so helpful and available whenever needed, and Caretaker (Jack) was awesome as well, but other than that we were happily left to a peaceful family vacation on our own which was exactly what we were looking for. We'll be back!

Great house, great location, great time!

My husband and I took our sons and their wives. The house was perfect for 3 couples. The caretaker, Jack, took great care of us when needed. The house is a short walk to Sea Spray Marina where we kept a small rented boat. There is also a great Tiki bar, food truck and corn hole at the Marina. The owners answered all of my questions quickly. We had THE BEST time on this trip!!!

Multiple Challenges with Host

Property was nice and Hope Town was a great place to visit. Host was not willing to accommodate our provisioning service and could only suggest a higher cost option. Host offered to arrange golf cart rentals but claimed no six seat carts available. I found a six seat cart after two phone calls instead of renting 2 four seat carts. Not enough propane to provide hot water on day three but property manager corrected after making a call. A bathroom fixture was partially broken upon our arrival and completely broke while we were there. We were charged in full for this item repair and would have had no problem sharing the replacement cost since we failed to report the initial damage on check-in. However this was not even a consideration by the Host. Also be aware as stated in the contract you are not allowed to use the washer/dyer and this might be a challenge when traveling with larger families.

Much needed vacation!

Great place to stay with all the amenities needed for a great vacation in the Bahamas with friends! Just a short distance from the sea spray marina and just a short golf cart ride to anywhere else on elbow cay. Perfect kitchen supplies for cooking every night! We loved the outdoor George Foreman grill! Everyone we met was so friendly! We will be back again!

Great stay at Catch-a-Wave

Perfect house for our family of 4 (+1 extra 13 yr old). The house had everything we needed. A short walk to beach. Communication with homeowner and care person was excellent. Highly recommend.

Great location

Catch A Wave is lovely house with wonderful views of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s got everything you could possibly want. We were there when a storm went through and power went out. It was lovely having the automatic generator. We did worry about running out of diesel but luckily the fuel barge managed to bring more to the island. The cell phone service is not the best but internet was good. It did go down a few times, but wasn’t long before it came back. Jack the caretaker was wonderful and kept in contact with us and could not do enough to make sure our vacation went well. Jane the owner was also very responsive to questions. Renting a golf cart is a must to get around the island. Easy reach to Tahiti Beach, Abaco Inn and FireFly. I would recommend shopping at Maxwells before getting the ferry over as stores only have basic supplies.

Perfect house and location

Our family of 6 and 9 month old baby had plenty of room - a great floor plan for privacy. The pool and outdoor space gives plenty of different activities.

Elbow Cay - wonderful place to be

House was nice - property manager is top notch. House was some what clean but a deep clean is probably due. We did not realize it is against the rules to use the laundry. The sheets for one of the unmade beds was-in the laundry and the door was not locked. We used the laundry to clean the towels, shorts, T-shirts and such as we have in any rental we have used in the past and were told after that was totally off limits, owner had a camera in the laundry which is a bit out uncomfortable.. We typically start the first load on check out but were told we should not do that after we stopped the beds and stacked the towels. We apologize for using the washer and dryer but there were no signs stating they were off limits. Very nice property but a tad warn assuming the previous storms have been rough on everyone’s property. Electric grill was not in good shape so cooking was all in the kitchen. The island is fantastic, all the people on the island are fantastic, the property manager could not have been any nicer and helpful. If you need a laundry this would not be the place to stay unless you go to the local laundry mat. Island food is every bit as good as home in charleston sc.

It was great to Catch a Wave

Great, clean, well located property. Owner & Prop Manager were excellent and very proactive. The Pool was clean ,cool and perfect for an afternoon dip. It had all of the utensils / pots needed for cooking. Highly recommend.

Longtime Abaco, first time Elbow Cay

For the last 15 years I have heard wonderful things about Elbow Cay. My expectations were exceeded by an order of 10! The island is beautiful, as expected, but the difference are all of the amazing people. I have never met more gracious and wonderful people. If Dorian wasn't bad enough the Abacos were dealt a double whammy with COVID. The resiliency and determination of the Abacos is in full view with the people of Elbow Cay. Their warmth, kindness and hospitality are rare and they truly embody the saying, grace under pressure. If you want an amazing location where you can revel in all the glory of Elbow Cay look no further than Catch a Wave. Catch a Wave is perfect for a family or a group of friends. The deck is amazing and the views surreal. Everything you need is exactly where you need it and the house is very comfortable. Personally, I can't wait to go back.

We are a family of 11+, three grown sons, two wonderful daughter-in-laws, four adorable grandchildren (3 grandsons, 1 granddaughter) and another granddaughter on the way Spring 2025.. After growing up in the suburbs of New York and Boston we met after college in Nantucket, MA where all three of our boys were born. To escape those, long, cold, harsh winters we moved our family to Hilton Head Island, SC in 1992 where we currently live. Our kids have always had a love of the water and 'island living' (although they have chosen the more metropolitan areas of Charleston, SC and DC to live).

This 'love of the water' (and surfing) have taken us on vacations to Costa Rica, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Barbados, Mexico and now Elbow Cay.

We decided to build our DREAM vacation home after our first visit to Elbow Cay. We stayed with friends in White Sound and from the minute we got off the ferry we absolutely fell in love. It reminded us so much of our days on Nantucket and how it used to be 30+ years ago. The beaches with their beautiful coral shaded sand and crystal clear turquoise water are second to none. Not to mention how hospitable and friendly EVERYONE is. It is the perfect place to escape, unwind, relax and create many memories!!!!

Our goal was to build a vacation home in keeping with the 'Bahamas' theme of bright colors and coastal decorations, along with all the modern amenities one would want to make for a perfect stay.

Catch A Wave's location in the White Sound area has some definite advantages. First of all, being on the South side facing the ocean there is always a breeze, unlike in town or facing the Sea of Abaco. This especially makes a huge difference in the summer months. We are right up the street from the Sea Spray and a short walk to Tahiti Beach and only minutes by golf cart to other beaches and town. And.. in the summer, when power outages are a common occurrence, we have an automatic full house generator.
