For the price/night, we were expecting this to be Great. It was good, but not great - there were some housekeeping issues and the home has some maintenance issues to be addressed.
Pros: The house is so close to this cute little stream that's stocked with trout. Our kids had a BLAST fishing! Also, it's SUCH a central location. 15 mins or less to most of the big attractions. We did Mt Rushmore, Chuckwagon Dinner, Crazy Horse, 1880's train to Keystone and back, Reptile Gardens (twice it was so awesome, they give a free pass for the whole week with your first entrance fee), Custer, Sylvan Lake and the Wildlife Loop at Custer State Park, Sheridan Lake, Wind Caves National Park - it's central to ALL! Amazing location, for sure. And the house was well-stocked, kitchen wise. BBQ was great. It has oils and sugar and coffee filters and all the basics, which was nice. A lot of random electrical appliances - george foreman lean mean grills, old school giant popcorn machines, electric salad spinners... it made us lol and wonder if the owners ditched their unwanteds here. Haha! :)
Re the housekeeping, I had called 10 days early to arrange check-in at 3pm so we could make a chuckwagon dinner on time. We were told that would be just fine, but upon arrival at 3pm the housekeeper wasn't even there, let alone completed. We ended up unpacking our suitcases on the driveway to get out coats for the dinner and not checking in until late that evening. The bathrooms were missing white towels and there was half used shower gel, the hot tub wasn't filled all the way and was uber-chemically and cold. The two bedrooms closets had pillows and linens and home decor just strewn everywhere, looked very dirty. Maybe some baskets would help? All in all, you could tell that the poor housekeeper was overworked.
There were some maintenance items as well that we already discussed with mgmt, no need to bring up here again as I'm hoping they will address.
Even though it was a cool and rainy week, the house ran very hot - upstairs thermometers stuck around 80 degrees. There is a wall AC unit in the loft to their credit. :) I would plan on putting kiddos in the loft rather than adults as it's so bright it's not a great place to sleep in. It was very safe tho, no safety concerns.
Thanks for the fun time!
