Quaint historic charm

We had a wonderful anniversary trip to Nauvoo. The historic and quaint Mix House added some period charm to our stay. While the house retains much of its 19th century charm, it has the modern conveniences needed for a relaxing stay. It may have been the off season, but food and meal choices were limited in Nauvoo itself. We were grateful for the items we ordered from The Apron Bake Shoppe.

The Mix House is Awesome

This house is so fun! It might be the best place to stay when visiting Nauvoo. It’s an old, old home that really gives a sense for how folks lived in the 1800s.

Church Conference

The property was exactly as listed. This property is immaculate. I love the fact that you can look up on the 2nd floor and see the original rafters. There are some quirks such as no electrical outlets in the downstairs bathroom, (or that I saw easily) However I would stay again. This home is close to 200 years old and in amazing condition, just beautiful! The hosts were responsive when needed! Super comfy beds as well.

Perfect!!! We loved our stay!

Staying at the Mix House made our experience even better! We had a rental car so driving back and forth from Historic Nauvoo was a breeze! The views, comfort, and charm enhanced our trip so much! When we come again we will stay at the Mix House!

A bonus for our travel.

This property was perfect for the added "step back in time" experience we were seeking. The home and property allowed us to explore and experience a simple lifestyle and the ability to gather as family for mealtimes when we wanted to stay in for breakfast and dinner. It is close to the historical parts of Nauvoo, making it easy and quick to see the many sites and tours available.

Family Tree and History Adventure

Nauvoo was a mid point ti meet a family member and continue work on our family tree. The historical site was the main reason we chose Nauvoo. A little search on Vrbo, we found a historic home to stay in. What a treat! The rental was beyond the price point we usually seek but the home was the cherry on top of a wonderful visit. Very nice property

Amazing, historic home with many modern conveniences.

This is an amazing pioneer home and property. It is thoughtfully decorated and filled with historical documents, art, and other period pieces. It was hard to leave. I will be coming back!

Pioneer House was Super Fun

We absolutely loved staying in this pioneer house decorated with antiques. It was a very unique experience and my kids thought it was so fun. The modern kitchen and bath amenities and A/C made it very comfortable. The host was responsive and helpful. The only suggestion I have is to change the number of people it sleeps to 5 - two in the master and three in the kids room. If you count the couch downstairs or the blowup mattress or the cot then you could say 6 but I think that would be the max. The little bed in the hall would only work for a toddler.

Cute old house

We loved staying at the Mix House! It’s close to all the things to do in Nauvoo. Our children loved exploring the property and playing out in the yard. It was perfect for our little family.

Great stay

We had a great time with our family for the weekend. The ambiance really adds some authenticity to the historic Nauvoo experience. The old quirks of the house are part of the adventure. The owners were very helpful!

the perfect place to stay for a true Nauvoo experience

It was such a fun experience seeing all of the amazing historical homes around Nauvoo and then to get to come home and live in one! Totally immersive experience and the perfect VRBO experience. Couldn't recommend it more.

We had a great time staying in such a well maintained pioneer age property. Hide and seek with the light switches was a comedic highlight. Very comfortable beds.

Good location, authentic experience

The house offers a very authentic experience. It’s definitely a pioneer house but with some modern conveniences, like a shower, washer and dryer, refrigerator, etc. Keep in mind that since it is a pioneer house, it can feel tight depending on how many people you have staying. We had our family of six so one of the kids ended up in the master with us on the provided cot. The owners were great about responding to our questions. The instructions for the house were descriptive and helpful. We appreciated them mentioning their diligence with pest control but also the warning that we may encounter a critter or two since the house is old and surrounded by fields. We found a few baby mice under one of the beds, so the warning was much appreciated!

Great place!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Mix House. The property was well taken care of. We really liked staying in a historic property. We came to Nauvoo to tour the pioneer historical church sites and it made it even more fun to stay in a pioneer home.

Absolutely lovely home

There was no blow up mattress or bbq grill but the hosts were very good at immediately helping us with anything we needed. We absolutely loved the décor and feel of the home. Will stay again in a heartbeat

Beautiful Historic Home

It was a special treat to stay in this historic home with our family. It felt like we were transported back in time. Lots of little thoughtful touches including the delicious soft gingersnap cookies upon arrival! We very much enjoyed our stay!

Absolutely Fantastic!

Oh how I appreciate that someone would care for this old house, furnish it with beautiful antiques, and then share it!! After all he church history tours we'd done, it was a dream to stay in one of the old houses. There was so much to do in Nauvoo, my only regret is that we didn't have more time to just be at the house and soak it all in. But we loved every minute we were there. The owners were great to work with, all was as described, and then some. WE LOVED this sweet house. Thank you!

A peaceful weekend stay!

We had a nice stay in the Mix House. With two young children (7 and 5) we had to be mindful of too much curiosity about some of the antiques, but the upside of learning about history, playing in the yard, and unplugging a bit was definitely worth it. The cheese and pie shop across the road was a bonus!

Great stay!

We had a great experience! We had 8, it was a bit of a tight squeeze. We loved feeling like we stepped back in time! The children loved the outdoor space to play. We bought groceries in the neighboring town and cooked all our meals in the house. Bring paper plates to ease dishes! Loved Nauvoo and We would stay in the Mix house again!

Historical immersion with modern amenities

Like being in an1850s Illinois farmhouse (with an appliance-updated kitchen) but well-concealed 2000s necessities make it modern-day livable. Great, unique experience overall with few complaints.
