NO FIRES ALLOWED IN THE FIRE PIT OR ON THE BEACH! NO FIREWORKS! The grasses burn easily and spread very quickly!
When leaving strip all used sheets, NOT blankets, from beds.Take out all garbage to outdoor cans. Take food from the refrigerator. Run dishwasher.
Please be respectful of the cottage and our neighbors. It is a special place and we value it very much. Quiet hours are 10pm-7am.

Door County Beach House

We had a wonderful stay here! It is a very well kept home right on the beach. Our kids loved being able to walk right out to the beach and play in the water and sand. We really can’t say enough good things about it!

Great Location, Amazing Beach!

Our family got together in Door County for a Family Reunion. We used the Kaftan Cottage as a base for children and parents. Loved the beach access, sitting on the deck and the walkable access to the park, Hitching Post and Glidden Lodge. The Host was amazing and very helpful. We plan to return!

Gorgeous Views!

There was natural aging of the cabin interiors, but clean, and absolutely gorgeous land and views! A very nice cabin for a larger group; with areas to unwind on your own or to join the rest of the group. The property parking area was wide, but not very deep, so it was challenging for one of the couples, who had an extended cab truck. Compact cars (the cabin allowed 4 vehicles) would fit fine. The log art surrounding the property was neat and the wooded front yard with the outdoor decorative touches added to the cabin feel. The renting, arrival, and departure processes/property expectations were all very specific, smooth, and accommodating. We would definitely consider renting this property again, very nice.

Beautiful Door County Home

A bunch of us girls drove up to have casual beach hangs at this property, and we were no disappointed! There was plenty of space for everyone to spread out, or hang out together. The beach was beautiful, and everything was well maintained. The host answered all of my questions, was helpful, and was nice. I would recommend this property to any one, and would love to come back in the future.

Ice Fishing Trip

Would highly recommend this house for those who want a very unique place to stay. It is kept well maintained, clean, and is in a great location on the water. Hosts were responsive and helpful with information on the area.

Beautiful beach property

We had a group of 10 women staying for a 40th birthday celebration, on a beautiful fall weekend. We walked the beach, sat outside, walked to Glidden Lodge, listened to records, and took in the beautiful views and artwork. The property has incredible character and the beach is gorgeous. When we locked ourselves on the balcony within minutes of arrival, the caretaker immediately came over. The property owner was very responsive to emails. My ONLY complaint was that there was an unclean odor near the bathroom/ laundry room. Overall it was just what we needed!

Ladies Weekend Getaway

We booked the property for a weekend getaway with a large group of ladies and had an absolute blast! The beachfront location and views were incredible & we all had plenty of space to spend time together- or alone for some rest. We would definitely recommend the space to larger groups or multi-family vacationers! Thank you for sharing your amazing space!

Wonderful artsy home on the beach

We had so much fun staying at this house. Aside from the perfect, sandy beach right out front, we had so much fun admiring all of the mosaics, paintings, and sculpture inside and outside the home. It’s pretty magical. Most of it seems to have been created by the owner herself. The house was comfortable and well-equipped as well. The beach feels very private and has beautiful views in both directions. The house also has a lot of bright, sunny windows offering views of the lake. We explored many different towns on the peninsula during our stay and this was a great home base. Thanks for letting us enjoy your home!

The perfect escape

My husband, two kids (14, 11), mother and grandmother (87!) and I stayed at the beach house 4th of July week. In the middle of a pandemic, it was the absolute perfect getaway. The house itself is a homage to art and culture, with much of the art displayed created by members of the family. From family photos to tile mosaics to a wonderfully curated record collection, this place just makes you feel cool by being in it. I'm also confident that it's one of the best private beaches around! Yes, there are neighbors, but more or less you have your own spot on Lake Michigan, and the water is shallow, clear and very swimmable. My daughter spent hours upon hours in the water, and given how hot it was, we all spent a lot of time getting wet. The house has almost anything you would need, especially in the kitchen, as well as extras like a wonderful book collection and a nice TV and DVD player for when you need a break from the sun. The bunk room is definitely one of my favorite rooms in the house and reminds me of being at college or Girl Scout camp. So many of the rooms have water views, and the sun room with sliding doors all around, is an excellent place to relax. We cannot wait to go back!! Suggestions: bring a shower caddy of some kind, as the two showers are on the ground level, but most of the bedrooms are upstairs. It's not a big deal at all, but I think having some sort of portable caddy with your toiletries would be helpful. If you're looking to cook, the kitchen is very well stocked with almost anything you would need.

Incredible beauty inside and out on the shores of Lake Michigan

We had a group of 8 women for our Women’s Weekend at Kaftan House. The home is beautiful with windows galore and great views. Art everywhere. Very clean and cozy with all the amenities you need. Highly recommend!

Amazing beach house

This house was incredible and the best site for a friends weekend! The house itself is beautiful and so large, it never felt cramped with 11 of us there. And the property is spectacular--right on the water, amazing sand beach, hammock, wonderful outside space overall. It was a perfect house for a summer Door County get-a-way! And the owners were so quick to respond and answer any questions, great to work with.

Great Family Rental

This was a wonderful place. We had 6 adults and 4 children (ages 8 months, 4, 5 and 10. We were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary with children and grandchildren. We had perfect weather. There was a lake and sand to play in. Even if the lake was cold, the kids had great fun in it. Kitchen facilities were excellent, kids liked the bunk room. We went to the nearby state and county park, but avoided the rest of the Door County crowds. The artwork throughout was a bonus. Everyone had only one complaint; they all wanted to stay longer. We hope to return sometime for a longer stay.

Great place on the beach

Great place on the beach, near Cave Point Park. Quiet area and the house was designed very nicely beach-like. I'd recommend.

Beautiful home!

Truly a one of a kind experience at this beautiful home. Comfortably slept all 12 of our guests. Interior decorating was stunning with all the unique art work. We had everything we needed. Owner quickly responded when we had a question. Would look into booking this lovely home again!

Beautiful Spot on Lake Michigan

My friends and I really enjoyed our stay at the Kaftan Cottage. It is a beautiful property and is easily accessed, yet in a quiet spot. We had plenty of room and it still felt like home. Easy access to the rest of Door County's fun. Niki and her family are also very good to work with. Highly recommend!

Amazing house and view of Lake Michigan

We stayed here, recently, for my sister's bachelorette weekend getaway. The house was perfect for our group, with plenty of beds and lots of spaces to gather as a group. Beyond that, it is an aesthetically impressive house, filled with art and character. Since the weather wasn't at its best, we spent a lot of time inside, but could still appreciate the sights and sounds of the lake. It was also conveniently close to a handful of wineries, which we didn't mind at all! Thank you for a most enjoyable experience!

A perfect end to the summer.

Where to begin with Kaftan Cottage... in a word, our stay was fantastic. I had been planning a long family weekend away for over a month, and our plans for weekend in the Dells fell through. Luckily, at the instance of my sister, I changed courses to look in Door County and to my surprise, found Kaftan Cottage. The owner was gracious enough to work with us on extremely short notice to put this getaway together. The end result was a memorable weekend, capped with my mother's birthday. What I love about the house is the character and the charm. A lot of times these rentals feel like you're staying in a hotel, but the gives you the impression this is a family's home away from home. The layout of the house was very cool too. Walking around gives one the impression the house is introducing itself to you one room at a time. The vistas onto the lake where beautiful at all times of the day, and all of the interesting wooden sculptures around the property added to the summer vibe. The private stretch of beach was wonderful and pristine. The only drawback was the lake never being warmer than "cold" but that's Lake Michigan. In our short stay we managed to use most of the features of the house, the beach, the firepit, as well as just enjoying the relaxing sounds of the waves in the seasonal porch/living room. The only thing I would have changed about our trip was to make our stay longer. Thank you for a great experience, I hope to return very soon.

Wonderful beach house

Perfect house for a family get-together. The location--right on the beach--meant that the kids did not have to cross a road to get there. It would be difficult to list all the good things about this house! Everything was in pretty good shape, and the many mosaics and artsy touches in the house made for a personal and inviting atmosphere. At the beach, the water and sand were great for swimming--very clean. Glidden's Lodge restaurant, within walking distance, was very good with a cozy feel and great location on the water. We went there twice. Would definitely go back to this house!

Excellent vacation home

We stayed at the cottage over Memorial Day weekend. The water was still cold to enjoy yet the sand beach was fun for the kids. Its a very nice house-well furnished , great kitchen fully stocked and appliances are top notch. We had 6 kids in our group and the 8 bunk bed room was a hit. The house has lot of areas for kids and adults to have their own space. We enjoyed the outside patio and had good time doing the bar-b-que on outside grill with music playing on the sound system. I thank the owner and caretaker for keeping the house in such good shape and sharing for other families to enjoy a rare sand beach property in Door county.
