Welcome to Skippin’ Stones, a bright and welcoming riverfront retreat in the Cottages at Heron’s Landing neighborhood. With multiple porches and decks overlooking the harbor, this home is perfect for relaxing mornings with coffee, evening sunsets with a glass of wine, or just soaking in the serene riverside views.

Inside, the main floor features a large gourmet kitchen with stainless steel appliances, plenty of cookware, and a dining area that seats eight—perfect for cooking while still being part of the conversation. The adjacent living area is colorful and comfortable, with a couch, reading chairs, and a mounted flat-screen TV for relaxing after a day of exploring.

Upstairs, two bedrooms provide peaceful sleeping spaces:

✔ Second Bedroom: Queen trundle bed with private deck

With screened-in and open-air porches, you have plenty of spots to unwind, entertain, or simply enjoy the beauty of the river. Skippin’ Stones is a true riverside escape designed for comfort, convenience, and memorable moments.

We love sharing our community with you! Our local team is available daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. to help with recommendations, reservations, or any questions during your stay.

House Rules:
• Quiet Hours: 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. (take the fun to downtown Ottawa for live music & nightlife!)
• No parties, events, or tents
• No smoking anywhere on the property ($500 fine for non-compliance)
• Two pet maximum (75 lb. limit, $125 non-refundable fee). Pets must be leashed in the community and kenneled if left unattended. ($300 fine for non-compliance)

As part of Heritage Harbor, you’ll enjoy access to on-site amenities like swimming, biking trails, and dining, plus the option to rent pontoons, Hobie boards, or bikes to explore the river and surrounding trails. Just minutes away, downtown Ottawa offers shops, restaurants, and live entertainment, while nearby Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks provide endless outdoor adventures.

Potential

Pros - Beautiful location and kids had an amazing time skipping stones in the river. Con’s - the downstairs toilet ran so we had to turn the water to it off, the kitchen faucet wasn’t just a little wiggly (you could tilt it back and forth/side to side), and there was what appeared to be a whole load of dirty dishes someone had unloaded in the cupboard/shelves. Main bedroom bed was also very hard. (All were reported to property manager so hopefully no one experiences this going forward). We made it work, but it’s frustrating when you pay a good sum of money and experience so many negatives. Good potential though.

Family Vacation

My husband and 14 month old came from St Louis for a long weekend. I’m originally from Streator, and this location was the best in order to feel like a vacation and go to Chicago for a day, while still being close to see family. It has a true getaway feel, has the easiest access to the pool, great views, and lots of space. I know we will be back!

We were trying to recreate the vibe of a vacation spot we'd been going to for over a decade in northern Michigan, that we couldn't go to this year, and for a first time visit it hit all high notes. The river and boats in the inlet were also a great backdrop both visually and made for good conversation amongst adults and young ones. We loved the experience, knowing that we had a lovely " home" to go back to any time of the day or night. The members of your team were conscientious, friendly and accommodating. Beth described the homes and it helped us so much as we had 2 young children with us and some of the homes would not have worked with them. Home # 7 fit our needs excellently.

Great alternative to hotel

My husband and I needed a place to stay for three nights with our pup. It wasn’t a vacation as we were both working however we’re familiar with heritage harbor and what a lovely resort it is and decided to stay at a cottage that was pet friendly versus going to a hotel. It was great having our own space with kitchen and baths and enjoyed our privacy and our peace and quiet. We’d love to come back during a warmer season so we can enjoy the boating and all of the outdoor recreation this area has to offer. The cottage was lovely and very homey.

From the minute I walked in to the cottage, I didn’t want to leave. It is pretty, peaceful, and tidy. Everything that life hasn’t been for over a year for us! It was just what we needed. Thank you! I didn’t actually have to interact with anyone. I got all the check in information via email. We didn’t have any reason to contact the management. Great place

Skipping stones was great. The cabin housed our family of 6 comfortably. Overall area is very nice with walking distance to very good restaurant, Red Dog. Will definitely consider staying again when visiting Starved Rock.
