The space
As you enter the property you will be delighted by the open plan living and dining area where you can throw open the bifold windows and dine right next to the river. A well appointed kitchen and outdoor BBQ await your culinary adventures along with an outdoor dining table and seating for six guests to soak up the last of the suns rays. This Bach features two bedrooms inside, sleeping up to four guests and a good laundry with washer and dryer. Only a covered step away is the main bathroom and two other bedrooms, perfect for those seeking a little privacy or those craving an uninterrupted sleep in. The Hinemaiama River, famous in New Zealand for trout fishing is only steps way and the shorefront of Lake Taupo is a short stroll from your front door. Hatepe is one of New Zealand's hidden gems, known only by those who have experienced its old-world charm. It's a place where time slows down, children ride their bikes round the village and people are never too busy to stay hello. Bring your bikes, your scooters, your walking shoes, your fishing rods and your lifejackets as you will be spoilt for choice as to how to spend your days.

Hatepe is midway between Taupō and Tūrangi, just off SH1. There are no shops at Hatepe so be prepared to do your shopping in one of those two places. As for things to do?

The Tongariro National Trout Centre is worth a visit, as is the Tokaanu Hot Pools down that way. The Landing near the Taupō airport has a trampoline park, ninja course, indoor bowling, mini golf and restaurants. There is frisbee golf at Spa Park and natural hot pools there too.

The closest supermarket is Woolworths at Kokomea and there are food options including Kefi at Kokomea, Liquorland and beauty therapist Skinvae there which are all good. Pak n Save is further in town and is a large store. Tūrangi has a small but excellent New World. Pop Up Produce in Suncourt Plaza has excellent fresh fruit and vegetables plus fresh flowers, eggs, cookies and more.

Good shopping in Taupō includes Charlie Who, Collaboration, Elsbeth and Olive, Stirling Sports, Huffer, Spacecraft, October Reign, Is This Love?, Paire, and Gigi Belle Boutique.

Good cafes include The Cozy Corner Cafe (Keto, GF, RSF, DF options), Baked with Love has to be seen to be believed (amazing for GF) Kefi at Kokomea (Keto, GF, DF), The Storehouse and fabulous pies are to be found at Fast and fresh Bakery and Cafe. The best sushi is found at Suncourt Sushi, great Japanese food at Yokoburi at Suncourt Plaza, Master of India and Indian Affair for Indian food and Lotus Thai restaurant for Thai food. Going south, Creel Tackle Shop and Cafe is wonderful with outdoor seating, and the little coffee cart by the bridge at Tūrangi for sausage rolls and custard squares / vanilla slices is the place to be.

For higher end dining and restaurants The Bistro on Tamamutu St, Embra, and Bistro Lago at the Hilton are all great options. Going south, The Hare and Copper restaurant is great for everyone.

Families love swimming at Taupō Debretts Spa Resort but if you're adults only you must go to Wairakei Terraces. Walking around Lake Rotoponamu (6km loop, easy, suitable for kids) to the south of Tūrangi is nice, and the Huka Falls walk starting from Spa Park off Spa Road is a must do (a little more hilly, amazing walk that ends at the famed Huka Falls, about 6km return).
