The packet with the door code that we were to receive the week before did not arrive until the Friday before we left. And that was after hours of telephone work.
When we arrived the door code we were given did not work. It took two hours in the cold to get the front door to work. When we got in, there was no smoke detectors, or carbo monoxide detectors. They had been pulled from the ceiling and the exposed wires were showing. The front window was broken, and could not be secured. Upstairs, we could smell cigarette smoke, and marijuana. There was suppose to be keys to the back doors; They were none.
The owners were unavailable. We called VRBO, and there solution was to give us a $100 voucher so that we could go to Home Depot, buy the smoke detectors, and come back and install them.
After three hours on the telephone and discussion with several customer service people, VRBO agreed to put us up in a hotel for the night so that we could make other arrangements. VRBO made reservations, and we went to the hotel that they chose. When we arrive at the hotel, the reservations had not been made. It cost me $1000 for eleven of us to stay at the hotel.
It was the most unpleasant experience I have ever had.
