Whit and Barry have been welcoming visitors to their vacation homes in Charlestown, RI and St. Croix, USVI for nearly thirty years. Now retired, Whit, a native of Madison, CT, made his career in interior design, landscape design and antiques. Barry, from Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, retired as Contracts VP and Ethics Officer from a major Boston area defense firm in 2004.
Their next chapter brought them to the island of St. Croix where they spent twelve years running a successful vacation villa, Villa la Chatiere, where they welcomed hundreds of guests from around the world, many returning year after year. While on the island, Whit also volunteered at the Botanical Garden and Animal Welfare Center and Barry volunteered as Development Director for a low-cost spay/neuter non-profit.
In 2013, Whit and Barry returned to the mainland where they purchased a historic riverfront home in Gloucester County, Virginia which they work daily to restore while, in their spare time, lending their talents to the Gloucester Mathews Humane Society and continuing to support their feral cat colony on St. Croix.
Aside from their interest in animal welfare, Whit and Barry enjoy historic home restoration, antique collecting, gardening, entertaining and caring for four St. Croix cats and five Virginia cats.
