This part of Maine has many opportunities for hiking, boating, and biking in Acadia National Park (45 minute drive), on the Rails-to-Trails multi-use path that runs from Ellsworth to the Canadian border, and in the over 14,000-acre Donnell Pond Public Lands area that borders East Franklin. The Schoodic Peninsula (30 minute drive) offers stunning vistas as well and is a must-visit.
Bar Harbor is full of shops and restaurants, while Ellsworth (20 minute drive) is the nearby shopping hub. Basic groceries and necessities are available at the Franklin Trading Post 2 miles from the property.
The coast east from here is quiet and far less congested than mid-coast Maine. Have a secluded home base from which to launch your Maine explorations, and/or to have some quiet time away from the hustle.
