Charming coastal decor will make you feel instantly relaxed and at home. Fully equipped open-concept kitchen with stainless steel appliances and island seating creates the perfect gathering place for friends and family. If you choose not to cook, you can walk or bike along the shaded bike path to grab a garlic shrimp plate or fresh fish taco from the nearby Pupukea food trucks (Bike rentals available just down the road).

Enjoy indoor-outdoor Hawaii style living in the screened in lanai/porch area. Surrounded by tropical palm trees and gentle breezes, this is the ideal space to relax and unwind after a busy day of island adventures.

The surf cottage is NOT oceanfront however your private beach access gate leads you to a short pathway directly to the sand (a two minute walk!). Enjoy fun-filled beach days, romantic sunsets, or collecting precious shells- and then walk home to rinse off salt and sand in the outdoor shower. As an added bonus Shark's Cove, one of Hawaii's best snorkeling spots, is just a few minutes from the home.

Perfect stay for the holidays

We stayed in this cottage for the holidays (Thanksgiving-Christmas 2024; 32 days). Our adult kids live on the North Shore. The cottage location was evenly situated between their homes. The spacious, single level layout and lanai were perfect for hosting the holidays for our local family & friends. The house was clean, spacious, and comfortable for our group. Having 4 bedrooms allowed our kids to have their own space, for their own “Staycation” when their schedules allowed. The food trucks and Foodland market are so close and convenient. We got very lucky with our timing & location, we were able to walk, from our cottage to both pipemaster (@pipeline) and the Eddie Aikau (@waimea) surfing events. The private beach access offers a 2 min walk to Ke Iki beach from the cottage. The private & gated carport was perfect for our large truck and security. There’s a great bike/walking path and plenty of visitor parking right outside the front gate. The property manager and owner are very accommodating, friendly and quick to respond. I will definitely rent this cottage again.

Lovely home in great location

We had a great stay at Hale Makai. This is a very comfortable home in a great location on the North Shore of Oahu. The property was clean and comfortable with nice touches provided like coffee and a huge back of local cookies. There is a of beach equipment provided at this property including beach towels, snorkelling gear, abeach chair, etc. A short walk to Ke Iki beach which is great but the currents were quite strong there during our visit, so we went to other beaches nearby. The house is close to lots of great North Shore beaches. It's a short 10-minute walk to Pupukea beach and shops, which was very convenient and to Sharks Cove beach - great for snorkelling! It's also a very secure property with security codes for the front gate and the driveway and a high fence all round. My only gripe is that some bedrooms have ceiling fans but the Master bedroom did not. The Master had a AC unit that was quite noisy to run. This is a personal preference for me for ceiling fans, so not a major issue if you prefer AC. The TV had some connection issues during our stay but the property manager was very responsive when we raised our concerns about this and did a great job following up with us on this. Overall this was a great property on the North Shore and I recommend it for both families and groups of adults.

Ferienhaus Pupukea

Für uns war es ein wundervoller Aufenthalt in dem (fast) direkt am Strand liegenden Ferienhaus. Die Ausstattung ist sehr gut. Wir 2 Familien haben uns zum größten Teil selbst versorgt und fanden hierfür sehr gute Bedingungen vor. Der in 2 Minuten erreichbare Strand ist für uns der schönste der gesamten Insel!

Great vacation despite the lodging.

Upon arrival there was a stench that smelled like a dead animal. I cleaned the bed linens which helped but 3/4 mattresses need replacing. Lise refunded me $200 for my trouble. The house is charming and worked well for my family of 5, but Extremely dirty!! We found hair and products in the hall shower. There was a sea of cockroaches in the backyard and several in the house plus ants and a few spiders. When I mentioned this to Lise, she said they exterminate but it must have been at the end of the cycle. Also the couch and coffee table were dirty and there were layers of dust on the doors and some furniture. Coffee mugs needed to be soaked and cleaned, short on wine glasses and bowls. Only a few houses from the beautiful beach with a private path, but it was overgrown and hard to maneuver. Also, for being a beach house, it would have been nice to have beach chairs! I rented them from the surf shop truck next to Foodland. It made the beach much more enjoyable! Nice bike/walking path and the location made getting around the island easy—especially North Shore, but right on a noisy road which woke us several times. Overall good location but needs a deep clean, new mattresses, and kitchen updates.

Location is key

30 second walk to probably one of the best beaches on the island. Comfortable with good access to food trucks and FoodLand by foot. Nice paved bike path. Large vehicle makes parking in the car port tough, but not impossible. Would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic and Charming

The cottage was wonderful and in a perfect location. 3 houses and 1 minute walk away from gorgeous Sunset Beach. Updated and tasteful. Some of the beds need to be replaced as we could feel the coils of the mattress but master very comfortable. Overall a great house and we will definitely rent again.

LOCATION!

This is where you want to stay! Great neighborhood, cool North Shore vibe, close.to.everything! Great beaches all around, including the one out your back door. Great landing spot for our trip.

Great location & the perfect property!

Our stay was absolutely wonderful! We were so centrally located and close to everything. A short walk to the beach, a bike ride away from Pipeline and walking distance to Foodland and food trucks. The photos did not do the house justice. It was spacious and fit our family of 6 perfectly! We will definitely be back!

Perfect place for our family trip!

Our family of 5 stayed here during our recent trip to O’ahu. Hale Makai had all of the amenities & provisions needed to make our vacation perfect! The location is a short walk to the beach and food trucks. Property manager was very nice and helpful; communication was easy & prompt. Mahalo nui loa again for allowing us to stay here!

Great Experience

Our stay was fabulous....house was perfect for families and kids. The beach is right there and the other spots to see are easy to find from from the house. Also very close to Food Land and the food trucks.

Perfect holiday in Haleiwa

We went with 4 adults and 3 teens. Everyone felt it was the best vacation we have ever had. We swam, snorkeled, hiked, ran, wave bobbed in the day and had great family time around the dinner table and played games at night in the lounge or screened in porch. The house was cozy and comfortable. the location can’t be beat. The host, Lisa, was very prompt with communication and shared so much information it made our vacation very relaxing. We hope to return soon.

Wonderful Beach House!

We had a fantastic stay in this home! There was plenty of space for our family. The beds were comfortable and the decor was tastefully done. We weren’t able to figure out how to connect the WiFi to the Smart TV. We probably could have done it if we had had an HDMI adaptor. The WiFi was otherwise very good. The proximity to the beach - which was beautiful and relatively uncrowded - was great. We were under the impression that the house was on the beach but it is actually a few houses back and accessed by walking through the side yard of the homes closer to the beach. That said, it was quick and easy to get to the beach. We love the house and would definitely stay here again!

A wonderful family vacation

My family and my sisters family took a two week dream vacation on Oahu and this house was the perfect setting. It had plenty of room and was very cozy. Steps away from the beach to watch the sunset every night and a short walk to sharks cove and other amazing beaches. We also loved the food trucks! Truly a special place oh and we enjoyed all of the clickers and roosters too. Mahalo to the owner she was very helpful. We are sad to leave

Fabulous family vacation!

This house is in a wonderful location just steps from a beautiful, uncrowded beach, very close to grocery store and fun food trucks, just minutes to shops at Old Haleiwa, many popular beaches, and Waimea Falls and Botanical Gardens. The house is beautiful, clean and comfortable. The notebook with suggestions for things to do and places to eat was wonderful. Would love to stay here again!

Amazing home and privacy and crazy awesome beach access close by.

Family stay for spring break was stellar. Quick and simple access to the beautiful beaches. Host communication is amazing and couldn’t ask for a better host for our family vacation! Thank you so much! We stay in the north shore multiple times per year and this was our best experience to date!

Great property.

I was very happy with my stay here. The house was situated in a very nice area of the north shore and the beaches were beautiful. It was unfortunate that the waves were seasonly large and made swimming dangerous--this is not something the property could control, but if you consider staying here check on the reports. The kitchen was well stocked with spices, plates, silverware, etc. It had everything we needed. Access to the beach was easy and very close. Overall, there were very few set backs and a lot of positives about this property. I would definitely recommend it and would be happy to stay there again.

Great stay!!!

It was heaven having the beach just a short walk from the house. The location is just minutes away from amazing food trucks and other fun activities. I had to bring my work with me unfortunately, but the wifi and quiet location worked out great. I would definitely stay here again.
