Oceanfront in Hilo Hale Kai Suites Bamboo Room - King Bed, Private Bathroom

Hale Kai Hawaii Suites offers four oceanfront rooms (booked individually) and a spectacular, panoramic view of the blue Pacific Ocean and Hilo Bay. We overlook the popular Honolii surfing beach in a peaceful location just 2 miles north of historic Hilo Town. Revel in the best views in Hilo while at our pool and oceanfront lanai!

The Bamboo Room offers a king bed, private bathroom with shower, WiFi, SMART TV, small fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, hot water pot, toaster, dishes and utensils, ceiling and portable fans, no air conditioning, and sliding door to lanai. Continental breakfast items are stocked daily and we invite all guests to swim in the pool or lounge on the oceanfront lanai.

A few NOTES: One parking spot is provided per room in this quiet residential neighborhood. All Guest Rooms are facing the ocean on the lower level of the property and there are over 30 steps down (pictured) to traverse to the rooms. Guests are responsible for carrying their luggage to their rooms. Bookings limited to 2 guests per room (including children). Quiet hours are 9pm to 8am for the comfort of all of our guests, Mahalo!

While at Hale Kai (House on the Ocean) Hawaii, enjoy watching surfers, dolphins, and seasonal humpback whales during their annual migration to the Hawaiian Islands from the north Pacific. Great beautiful place and view, very clean and comfortable room. Host was great, everyday got fresh fruit and muffins. We really enjoyed our stay, would highly recommend this place for a beautiful stay away from the city hussel and bussel, just 10mins to the city beautiful beaches very close by.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We arrived for a 3 night stay and things were like we remembered from 2021. The room met expectations but the more we evaluated the property there were some things that had declined. The pool was very dirty and the vacuum was in it the entire time. Therefore, we did not use the pool. The breakfast was still as nice as we remembered from 2021. On the third morning we left towels out as instructed but they were not replaced. Later that afternoon I texted the host about the towels with no reply that day. We had to use a beach towel to dry off after showers that was used earlier that day. The following morning we were preparing to leave when she replied that she was trying to contact housekeeping. At this point is was far too late so it was very disappointing that she didn’t even reply the afternoon we needed the towels. Everything in the booking process was great but the housekeeping miss and the host lack of response was very disappointing.

We LOVED this property. It was exactly as listed and was a good drive from akaka falls and downtown Hilo. The property was clean. We would stay here again.

Reviewer Comments: We stayed 2 nights.Pros:Nice view, can watch sunrise in the room.Close enough to Hilo town.Clean and safe.They provide fruit everyday plus some eggs and cupcakes in the fridge.Every room gets an assigned parking spot.Cons:There are a lot of stairs to get to the room, not convenient if you have a lot of luggage to carry in and out. It's a bit weird that we had to walk past all the other guests' patio area. And then we needed to go through the common area/room to get to our room. It's the only room that doesn't have a sliding door to the outside. They put up dividers in the outdoor area so every room has its own "patio" with a table and chairs where you can eat breakfast and watch sunrise. However, we didn't have direct access to our patio area and had to carry our food and go through the common room and then go to the other side of the divider once we are outside. Just not as convenient.The granola bar they provided was stale.If you are sensitive to sound while sleeping, this may not be for you. You can hear the sound of waves(I find it soothing) and birds chirping all night.Parking is a bit tight and it's on a slope.

Breakfast is simple but delicious 😋 we looked forward for what we would get next morning. Even though they provide coffee and a coffee maker We took a quick ride to hilo to get our coffee and trythe local coffee shops drve back to our room and enjoy our fresh fruit and muffins. The rental was tiny different from the pictures I wish they have kept the colorful walls instead of the plain white walls. Not a deal breaker but the color walls made so much cozier and tropical lookingThe room really needs a full size sure all your female guests will appreciate. Did not use the pool but we did enjoy the pool area and relaxed enjoying the views. If we or when we are back to the big island we definitely staying here again!

Comfortable stay withgreat view

We enjoyed our stay here very much. Just a few recommendations: instructions to the room could have been a bit clearer. Luckily, we got here before dark. Outdoor lighting along the path would help, too! The breakfast fruit and muffins were a very nice touch. Kekela was very nice, too!

Wonderful location!

The view from the big windows was spectacular. We enjoyed our breakfast on the patio every morning. The floral display around the house was stunning. We couldn't have asked for a better location. We did trips to the north and south ends of the island. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Beautiful Babymoon Stay

This is the first b&b that we've actually gotten the breakfast part of the b! The Bamboo room was well equipped and quiet at the end of the house (no one passing by our porch). The breakfasts were such a nice touch with super fresh fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, and muffins. I love that it was provided because it allowed us to sit out and watch the sunrise with our coffee (also in room with fresh milk). It was so nice to really enjoy the lanai without having to leave. The pool was so nice in the heat and my husband loved watching the surfers down at the beach. Screens allowed us to open the windows and listen to the ocean and animals at night. Truly a wonderful stay close to Hilo, Volcano National Park, and other east island points of interest. Thank you for sharing your home!

Of the four places that we stayed, this proved to be our favorite. Being an end room, the Bamboo provides exceptional privacy along with the beautiful sunrise view. The singing of the coqui frogs only added to the unique experience. We enjoyed having a leisurely breakfast on the lanai, each day a different flavor of muffin and blend of fresh fruit. The property and beautiful landscaping are well maintained and clean. We appreciated the daily cleaning of dishes, trash removal, and delivery of the next morning's breakfast. The location was perfect for our activities along the northern coast, yet an easy drive into Hilo and points beyond. While parking is a bit tricky, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Great B&B

The room was nice, and they stocked your fridge with a nice breakfast for each morning. The pool is incredible - it over looked the ocean including a nice surfing beach and Hilo town. The room also had a nice private lanai area for each room overlooking the ocean.

Perfect for us!

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay! The lanai looking out over the ocean was exactly what I wanted. We enjoyed getting to watch the surfers down below. The daily breakfast was perfect and the coffee was delicious. We had the property to ourselves so it was very quiet and peaceful. My husband and I both agreed we will come back if we get the chance!

Hilo Tour

We are Hawaii island residents and we played tourist for a long weekend. The location was great and close to all the museums, the zoo and dinners. The sound of the ocean was very nice and the unit had a great view. We even saw a cruise ship come into port from our unit. We ate at HBC and Cafe Pesto. We also had a nice drink at The Hidden Nene (speakeasy in town). The bed was very comfortable and the continental breakfast consisting of muffins, fruit and boiled eggs were great! The only downside is parking. The space is very restricted so I would suggest a car or small SUV. We have a full sized van that was tight.

7 wonderful nights in the Bamboo Room

The shower is very roomy with great water pressure. The absence of a/c was not an issue with the ocean breeze and ceiling fan. The continental breakfast was just right for us and the fresh fruit was great. We watched the whales from the terrace while we breakfasted every morning. The gardens are lovely. The location was very convenient for Hilo. Our only cons were that the pool is not heated and was a little cool and the door to the Common Room sticks a little.
