Oceanfront in Hilo Hale Kai Suites - Moana Room - King Bed, Private Bathroom

Hale Kai Hawaii Suites offers four oceanfront rooms (booked individually) and a spectacular, panoramic view of the blue Pacific Ocean and Hilo Bay. We overlook the popular Honolii surfing beach in a peaceful location just 2 miles north of historic Hilo Town. Revel in the best views in Hilo while at our pool and oceanfront lanai!

The Moana Room is a large room with king bed, small table with chairs, desk, WiFi, SMART TV, private bathroom with shower, small fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, hot water pot, toaster, dishes and utensils, ceiling and portable fan, no air conditioning and sliding door to lanai. Continental breakfast items are stocked daily and we invite all guests to swim in the pool or lounge on our oceanfront lanai.

A few NOTES: One parking spot is provided per room in this quiet residential neighborhood. All Guest Rooms are facing the ocean on the lower level of the property and there are over 30 steps down (pictured) to traverse to the rooms. Guests are responsible for carrying their luggage to their rooms. Bookings limited to 2 guests per room (including children). Quiet hours are 9pm to 8am for the comfort of all of our guests, Mahalo!

While at Hale Kai (House on the Ocean) Hawaii, enjoy watching surfers, dolphins, and seasonal humpback whales during their annual migration to the Hawaiian Islands from the north Pacific. Modest accommodation with outstanding views

The massive lanai that wraps around the building connecting each room was the highlight of our stay - we ate our meals out there watching the waves and the surfers nearby. The sunrises here are unreal - and being able to watch them from in the cozy king sized bed made them all the better. The breakfast was modest but delicious, and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay. The property is quiet and very private. Absolutely would stay here again and again.

The property was in a beautiful spot on the Hamakua Coast - very close to Hilo and to Angel Farms. The room was clean, the breakfast fruit was fresh and perfect, the bed was very comfortable and everything was very easy. Loved the pool as well - the only thing missing was a jacuzzi!! :) Thanks for a great stay!

We loved the sunrise wake ups each morning and falling asleep to the ocean waves and salt breeze. The tropical vibes of all the floral and greenery around the place helped make it more and more like paradise found! We only stayed a couple of days because we opted to try both sides of the island for the different "vibes" but we were actually disappointed to leave and try something else because we knew it couldn't be "better"!!! It was nice to stay somewhere without the touristy feel. We highly recommend and would for sure return for another stay!!!!!!!!!

Little sea-side bed and breakfast!!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This place was overall wonderful! What a great view! We loved sitting at our table in the mornings and eating our included breakfast. Which was great by the way. We really appreciated the plain Greek yogurt cups, and real hard boiled eggs and fresh fruit of papaya and pineapple the first day!! Having this included is a huge benefit and makes this place unique. Probably one of the best "included" breakfasts we have ever had and we travel alot. I wish the place felt a little more private. Others from the other 3 rooms can walk right past your sliding glass door, but there is nothing that can be changed about that. But you either have a view of the water or you have your privacy. So u have to just think about that when changing or getting out of the shower or laying in bed. Also, not sure if anything can be done about this, but it can get stuffie inside the room because there is no cross flow of air. I wondered if a dehumidifier could be a good investment for each room? Also, they have done a good job of refreshing the rooms and making them modern and the shower update was nice. There are a few spots that are still a bit old, but overall I think the rooms were fabulous. They also had everything you needed in terms of amenities inside, from wine glasses, to set of plates, coffee maker, microwave, etc. The common room was also a nice surprise for guests to place extra food that they couldn't eat and pass to others who could use it. We loved seeing whales from our view and enjoyed seeing the surfers in the bay from our space! The privacy walls they have set up too are a great amenity and help with the privacy. Overall, very quiet, beautiful, well- appointed place!

Excellent Location! Free breakfast

Loved staying in this room. View to the ocean was spectacular. They would stock the fridge with fruits and yogurt for breakfast every day. Room has no AC and bathroom gets Hot but no big deal. Bed was super comfortable. There’s quite an amount of stairs to reach the roo.

Perfect holiday retreat

Hale Kai is simple but has all the necessities for a comfortable stay. The views were beautiful from the lanai and the pool with ocean view was an added bonus. It is the perfect location to explore Hilo.

Views for days!

My husband and I love the location of this rental and have stayed here twice. We always enjoy the daily breakfasts with lots of fresh fruit and the relaxing sounds of the waves. The pool was lovely and secluded. Definitely will stay here again.

Difficult to drag luggage into room ... have to go down a set of stairs and then up. Parking available but very tight.

Great space next to the ocean

We had a nice stay at this space. The only cons were the hot tub didn't work, and our door wouldn't lock from the outside with the key provided, but the space was secluded and we felt very safe despite. We would certainly stay in this beautiful space again. Mahalo!

Beautiful View

The weather in Hilo was very overcast most of the time we were there, which is something that obviously can't be controlled. The amazing part was that the view was still beautiful even with the drizzly weather. There were always surfers to watch from the pool area. We didn't use the pool or hottub. I did do yoga one morning by the pool. There was a beatiful sunrise the last morning we were there. The table and chairs outside our room were under a little overhang, so we could still sit outside and enjoy coffee or breakfast in the morning. Speaking of breakfast, my husband LOVED the muffins that were provided eahch day! I appreciated how environmentally friendly they were with even providing a little composting container for our food waste. There was a refrigerator with a freezer in our room and a larger refrigerator and freezer in the common room if needed. The room was very large, so we had plenty of space. The flowers along the stair walkway from the parking space to the room were lovely. There were whales spouting out in the bay each day. They were pretty far out, but it was still exciting to see! When I had questions, they got back to me right away and were very kind.

Location

Quiet road. A short drive into town. Able to watch surfers at Honoli'i Beach. Saw whales from the lanai. Continental breakfast was filling. The driveway is quite steep. If reserving Moana, you might want to back in.

The views out of Hilo Bay are amazing. It is whale season and every morning we saw dozens of them out in the bay.Our room (Moana room) was clean but basic. We had a microwave, fridge, toaster, and coffee maker. Fruit and muffins provided.Not for people with mobility issues as there are steps down and back up to get in and out of the rooms. The driveway is also steep and it can be a challenge to get your vehicle out. The left turn onto the main road to Hilo can be tough as well during heavy traffic and at night with low visibiility.Overall, great place to stay during a visit to Hilo.

Great Room, Tricky Parking

I understand that the renovations are nearly done, but they’re still causing complications. When we arrived, the small parking lot was half filled with workers’ trucks, so we had to wait for them to leave. Admittedly, we arrived about half an hour early. We were supposed to have a particular space reserved, but even after the workers left, a truck was still in our space, so we had to park in a different one. We went out for dinner, but when we came back, a sedan was in our space, so we had to choose another. In practice, I guess, it’s first-come, first-served, or take what you can get. Also, the driveway is, as ever (this is our third stay at the property), quite steep, making it a bit of challenge to maneuver your way out, especially if you have to do so in reverse. Still, it’s a beautiful and delightful place, especially if you like to get up in the dark and watch the sun rise. It’s worth some inconvenience and anxiety in the parking lot.
