The commune of ST MAURICE de CAZEVIEILLE, (CP 3°360) surrounded by vineyards, is a village of 706 inhabitants located in the center of the Gard department and close to the Cévennes. It is exposed to a Mediterranean climate. It is 22 minutes from UZES, 26 minutes from Alès, 32 minutes from Anduze, 37 minutes from the Pont du Gard and 32 minutes from Nîmes.
In the Middle Ages, St Maurice belonged to the winegrower and the diocese of Uzès. This village has had a turbulent history and has suffered the destruction of many buildings. Nevertheless, the primitive church with a choir from the thirteenth century, Le Portalet, is the best preserved vestige of the twelfth-century rampart and the old north entrance to the fortifications contribute to giving a lot of character and charm to this welcoming village.PGJyPg
